Also dont just shoot the people kick them then your get yellow strength balls so you can get your strength up so you can eventually after about 3 level ups pick up 2 tonnes and lob it. I have forgot what the number was its superb love jumping in air and lobbing dead gang member through the air lol.
You can do some funny stuff cant wait to get full game so can max ability be awesome. :)
I also love (I may have mentioned this before) how your character seems to change in appearance as you level up. Very cool.
This game is crack. Can't wait for the full version.

Still, co-op has a lot of potential. How many free roaming games let you have access to the entire game throughout co-op? None?

It feels like there are so many cool ways to approach things. The upgrades ACTUALLY matter. Your driving control improves your aim becomes more deadly with guns. Not bad at all.
I like how when you're near specific gang activity you are notified to go check it out. Or how they sent people out to go kill you. What I really love about this game is that despite how powerful you may be there are times when you seriously get hurt then the need to escape feels really frantic.

Pros, Cons, and overall impression? Why should someone want to buy this? Why would they want to avoid it?

Someone should buy it because it's probably the most creative GTA-like yet. It has elements of platforming games, stat progression that greatly effects your character, and online co-op that lets you play in the full sandbox enviroment with a friend for the first time. The driving is interesting, especially the upgraded vehicles, but getting around by leaping 30-40 feet through the air is a blast too.
You're basically a super-hero in an unscripted city that's full of life and crime. You are an avatar and there's a back story to establish the games enviroment but not a lot more than that, it's all gameplay.
Targeting is great, stunts are great..just packed with great and refreshing things for this genre. Just based on this little demo I have a feeling it's one of the best entries into the GTA-like genre so far.
If you like GTA, if you bought Saints Row, this is basically a must buy. Rockstar has to step it up, Realtime Worlds is no joke.
Can't wait to see APB.

the game is about "sandbox" gameplay....as in its upto you how you do things...its your "OWN" story , you create it, how you play the game is entirely upto you
even though gta like to call its sel a free roaming game...it still kinda leads you by the hand because there is a MAJOR story attached.......
as grift said rockstar has to step up now...crackdown is the biz

This game completely DESTROYS any sandbox game ever made, including GTA!
Yes indeed, this is the GTA KILLER we've been waiting for!
This game totally anihilates Saint's Row in every department, if this game doesn't sell atleast twice as many copy's as Saint's Row, there's something seriously wrong with the gaming industry!
Seriously, I don't think I've had so much fun with a videogame in a long time, it's simply brilliant!
The architecture in this game is just fantastic, the climbing, hanging and jumping from building to building, rooftop to rooftop is just so satisfying.
And the agility upgrading system really finishes it off!
Add the hilarious situations you often find yourself in, the massive explosions and a city where so much is going on and feels so alive, and you can't possibly go wrong with this one.
Where Saint's Row adds absolutely NOTHING to the sandbox genre, this game REDEFINES it.
One of the biggest differences is that Saint's Row takes place pretty much in a 2 dimensional enviroment.
Almost everything takes place on ground level, ok, there is some relief, but the enviroment is pretty much just bland and boring.
In Crackdown, the whole enviroment is interactive and everything you see is within reach.
Only downside is the targeting as mentioned here earlier which is terrible, but it doesn't ruin the game for me, at all.
Also, I'm still not that charmed by the artstyle, and it's not that I've got anything against cell-shaded graphics (I thought XIII was a beautifull game at the time), but I don't know, I just don't really dig it.
That said, I am getting used to it a bit more now and so it doesn't bother me as much as before.
And I'd still think It's a shame they didn't implement some sort of story to it, but I can manage without.
Framerate is nice and smooth. which is a HUGE plus and the draw distance is also impressive.
Some pop-up here and there, but it's nothing serious.
And the game actually memorises things, so if you park a car somewhere and you come back after a while it's still there!
(I hope you're taking notes, Volition!)
Damn, what a turn around!
I was very sceptical about this one, but the demo simply blew me away.
I never thought I'd say this, but this game is a WINNER and an instant CLASSIC..!

Crackdown is refreshing and different. Crackdown may not have any real narrative, but I'll take creative and refreshing gameplay elements, and a creative and refreshing setting over a poorly written story that tries too hard and borders on being racist.
There are a couple of things that Saints Row does better, but they are few and far between. I like the fact that there are more building interiors in Saints Row, it gives the world a bit more depth than it would have otherwise, and I really like the map in Saints Row, which makes getting from location to location a breeze without having to memorize the entire city.
Saints Row is probably the second best GTA-like yet, so it deserves some credit for that, but I do see think Crackdown is going to be a much better game overall.

But, it also doesn't do alot of things GTA did; how about boats, motorcycles, choppers, planes etc.
This made the game very sterile and 2d-ish, and the bad humor and poor story didn't help either.
Not to mention the (lack of) performance.
Crackdown on the otherhand has...well...read my previous post and add the tons of stuff I've not put in there or to that... ;)

I dont think sandbox games are meant to have a story. No offense but GTA story wasnt what made people want to play GTA. Even vice city, which IMO is the best GTA game so far doesnt have much on story.
Alot of people say GoW doesnt have a story, well just because the story isnt spoon fed to you doesnt mean there isnt one. i felt GoW does a splendid job of telling you whats happening without interupting the gameplay.
GoW, War3, Halo, MYST, Civilazation

Well actually, I'd fool around in the city first, and then I'd dive into the main story mode, so it was a nice mixture of both.
Imo, GTA 3 (the 1st 3d GTA) was the best as I'll never forget the sensation of being able to wonder around in this open enviroment, doing whatever you please.
Being able to drive any car you wanted to, go where ever you wanted to, shoot people whenever you wanted to, it was like something I'd never experienced before.
And then you had that immersive (imo) story with such a fantastic atmosphere to dive into.
Crackdown is kind of doing this now, maybe not with the same impact as GTA 3 did back then (there kinda goes my earlier statement of GTA killer), but I really feel like I'm playing something new, fresh and exciting... :D

I got to the highest point of one of the three peaks, there are two of the same height and another a bit lower, I guess I need a higher ability level to reach those two, but that's pretty much as high as you can go and it looks incredible form up there. It took me close to 20 minutes.

Me: Hey, you can jump up on that garbage can and get that agility marker.

Me: *shoots gas can by garbage dump*

Must say they've been pretty generous with the demo in terms of what they're allowing you to do. Some demos are waay more limited.
