I hate fighters nowwadays. They should never have gotten more complex than SFII. Learning all these combos for multiple characters *spits*. Why not have the same move set, but each characters style and attacks change? AKA Super Smash Bros! (The best selling "Fighter" in the World).

Alright I'm done here. I'm contractually obligated to post this opinion once in every fighter thread to piss off Grift.
You were never good at SF2 either. ;)

You would be more into fighters if they had FPS controls, I'm sure. Every game basically needs to use the exact same controls or today's lame ass gamers can't be bothered to learn how to play them.

Yeah, if you think mastering the combos is where the difficulty comes in you are quite the nub :P

I'm guessing becasue it's not that super popular. So far as i know it's not featured in any of the bigger tournaments or anythign either.
Because DOA4s core mechanics are crap :p

DOA5 brings back a lot of DOA3s style in terms of in depth gameplay.

I didn't like the demo much. I don't' like QTE's in the middle of my fighting games. I know I'm going to see all of those cinematic sequences a few times each and get tired of them.

Sucks. I've always enjoyed the series. Between this and NG3 I'm about to declare Team Ninja officially dead.

Mhmm, never would have guessed that that shit would get old. I still totally enjoy watching the 5 minute X-ray attacks and ultra combos in MK/SF :P

It's funny. I actually don't mind the super moves in Street Fighter 4, but I think it's because they take a degree of skill to pull off. But if you only had to hold a button and release it to do a super in SF4, I think that would be pretty lame.

So I guess the real problem I have with these sequences is that they are too easy to do? I'll have to meditate on that a bit.

qcf, qcf, lp+mp+hp takes skill to pull off? I suddenly understand why nobody likes Tekken :P

If endless combos were all it took to be awesome than nobody would hail Virtua Fighter.

Note: I don't actually know anything about Tekken. I just sorta hate the way it looks.

Just saying, if 2 qcf and a button press requires skill then i don't know what wavedashing in to a 50/50, or doing like 3 EWGF in a row demands. Certainly it's a herculean task by comparison :P

Yeah, I'm getting it, but there's no way I'm payin $60 for Dead or Alive anymore :D

I'm not as concerned with being on the ball with this one. With a lot of other fighters I want to make sure I don't fall behind.. but.. it's DOA so I won't.

I also plan on maining all of the VF characters online, presuming they're not awful in this game. I think it'll be a fun way to troll DOA fans.

Isn't that just a remake of an old CG scene form like doa 3 or something?

Yeah, tubed it, but it was doa 4, not 3 :P

But yeah, obviously Team Ninja are known for their tasteful, mature and well thought out sexual themes.

lol.. fighting game reviews.

At the end of the day, all that matters is that you like it. Fighting game reviews are the worst though.

Well...as a fighter enthusiast i'd agree that reviews are utterly pointless. The reviewer can't possibly spend enough time with the game to give it a fair shake, nor do most reviewers even understand how the games work. Then again, 90% of the people playing fighters are on the same level as the reviewers, hence MK is generally considered the best fighter of all time :P

So far so good

Biggest change I've seen so far is the reversal system. It's much harder, and more complex than I was anticipating. I'm still getting used to it and the timing.
Story mode is actually pretty well done for a fighter. Team Ninja actually took the time to create scenes and animate characters interacting with one another in between fights. They're well made and the addition of Japanese voices makes it even better.

Even though I see people talking about the button system of the game being simplistic, there are a lot of little things Team Ninja does right in terms of ground movement, throw types, stances, reversals, and other moves that make it pretty deep. This is just my first day impression so far too, I'm sure it goes even further.

Some of the male characters look kinda lame in comparison to the other characters. Namely Bass and Bay. They suffer from Madden syndrome, aka weird huge heads.
Also the Carnival Stage makes me want to blow my brains out. Especially when I'm stuck on it continually trying to beat a high difficulty CPU opponent over and over.

Another complaint I have. I don't know if clicking right stick has an equivalent on an arcade stick, because in practice mode I can't preview moves I'm trying to achieve without an Xbox controller. Pretty major oversight if what it seems to be, is true.

I haven't gone Online yet to try that out, but it's a bit weird you have to choose your character in your menu before you head into the mode. Seems like you can't choose your character as you wait for the match to begin. Could be wrong though.

The game has definitely slowed down from what I remember it being.
Looks gorgeous though, and you can choose to have the Action shit turn on or off. They ask you when you first start the game whether you're casual or a competition type.

Also it seems like there has been a tit reduction in this game. It may not seem like it from the trailers, but they've definitely toned down the breast movements in this.
Mind you there are still some perverse shit in there, like when certain characters lose and collapse to the mat in almost sexual pleasure. Kinda strange. Not sure my gf would understand if she saw me playing and witnessed it haha.

This is actually true of any multiplayer game. As an avid FPS fan as well, this extends beyond the fighter genre.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting this, but it was never about buttons. Virtua Fighter has the same inputs as Dead or Alive and you'll rarely see anyone claim it's not deep.

Quoi de neuf ?
  • Driftwood
