Forza 2 Offscreen shots wow!?

What? GT Premium cars look better than those Forza 2 cars which is a shame really. Polyphony is doing fully modeled interiors and it makes the cars look much better, and it shows.

They are up there with the PGR3 cars, not quite but up there. So I don't see the funny.

I really hope your having a laugh...

PGR4! Just the road alone in PGR3 is droool worthy

Why is it the PGR tarmack is, well, just better than any other racer shown, any platform, 1 year after release??

Well I wouldn't say underappreciated as most people realize it looks great... well, unless we are in a PS3 thread (then the 30fps/600p gets knocked on) or in a FM2 thread (where you are bound to see a number of people say PGR3 is getting blow away).

Another thing the above pic shows is great color saturation and a render model (lighting, shadowing, reflections, etc) that gives a solid feel for depth and how "solid" the world looks. Hard to believe they pulled this off before launch.

The background mountain is photo which is very evident when you play game, no real time shadows, fake.

Actually those moutains are now some geometry with normal maps.

Anyhow, the GT:HD shots are really horrible IMO. The quality is VERY unbalanced. Some things are good quality, other things are like basic alpha channels with HORRIBLE dithering. You get a rough poly model with photo of a mountain, but then very poor word detail in the environment (grass, fences, etc). You get some decent poly models for interiors with iffy texturing and poor lighting model.

As much as I may have dogged FM2, it definately is shaping up to be more than FM:HD, and definately better looking overall as a package than GT:HD. This shot alone (here) shows a great balance and acceptible next gen racer. I still expect more from a 1st party, but it is getting on the right path.

Well GT-HD shouldn't really be compared to FM2 as it's a stop gap.

Polyphony would be better off making GT5, i'm not sure what Polyphony and Sony are thinking in making this game to be honest.

GT-HD is a joke.

Hell as you were saying that about pgr3 acert I think the same about doa4 which is a hell of an underrated game graphically as well.

Just because of the character art style people assume there hasn't been significant visual upgrades but the characters clearly look a lot better environments is where doa4 sets itself apart from all other games (especially team ninja's current gen efforts) could you imagine a ninja gaiden game fighting in environments that look that good or even better?

GT-HD will sell bigtime to casuals sadly :/

Have to say I disagree--I disagree greatly with the assertion that the GT series is a brand that's made for the casual--or that the playstation brand in general is something that somehow apeals more to the casual than the hardcore--that's just freaking silly. Though it's unfortunate that it may apeal more to the casual crowd than the 360--I think it's a bit early to make that assumption. HARDCORE is owning all the damn consoles and not picking sides like they're some damn sports team--because ya know--games are fun? Granted that is not an option for some people..

And I also don't think DOA4 is really underrated--it's a good looking game but that's about all the credit it can get. DOAX2 looks way better, visually--Ein/Hayate's horrid skin texture and the general lack of things like self shadowing made DOA4 look..average.

Wasn't this thread about Forza 2 at one point? :) Seems every thread needs to be some sort of PS3 comparison thread--either that or about Blue Dragon..

Just to clarify, I was saying the GTHD Premium cars are better modeled than those in Forza 2, and I think that sucks. I also believe overall, Forza 2 will look better, but considering the little effort Polyphony is making with that game.............it makes you think!

I use in the cockpit view pretty much constantly..so yes, you can do it. Hell, I honestly think it feels like a very good representation of actually driving a car--I think it's pretty easy/straight forward. Maybe your problem is that you're peeking out the window too much Simon--keep your eyes on the road ;)

The GT:HD car interiors aren't as nice as those in PGR3 and they have the advantage of time to create interiors for cars that will be SOLD individually months after release.

GT:HD is by far the worst example of online commerce that I've ever seen and I thank heaven that Microsoft realise that they can only go so far with it.

No i can't .. i have said several times it's nothng more than a wow thats cool feature, doesn't really work for me though.

No really, it works fine! Every game should have this view. And the worst example of online commerce is definitly iTunes--not anything videogame related. Has it actually been confirmed how GT:HD Premium will actually function, anyway? The fact that they're releasing two SKU's (right?) is confusing enough.

At least iTunes actually replaces a traditional bricks & mortar setup. Selling you the framework of a game and charging over the odds to fill it in is ridiculous.

Well, they haven't really confirmed how GT:HD will be priced..so I think we're jumping the gun a little bit. And selling people DRM crippled music for the same price as brick and mortar joints sell hard copies is a damn scam--and the movies are even more ridiculous--priced to match DVD's and the quality just aint there..iTune's is actually rather pathetic--and it also is to blame for proving to the business world that people are perfectly willing to pay out the ass for something intangible, and something they used to get for free. Yay.

But yea--They haven't stated what the cost per dl or the cost of the physical game is--hell, have they even really confirmed that this model is the real deal?

Everyone is jumping on the microtransaction bandwaggon--and we all know who started this trend--innovation at the expense of the consumer..woot.

It works great for me. One of the true, few, "next gen" features I have seen in any game. May not appeal to everyone, but I am the kind of player who likes such. I wish BF series had more "forced cockpit" control and servers used it -- makes more realistic (of course they have to be modled right). Anyhow, I LOVE the PGR3 interior view and I think it works great. Also better experience IMO.

Turn based racing. Sounds diplomatic to me!

Thing is, I never use the "first person" view in racing games because I find it disorienting and awkward. I think that's probably why the cockpit view is so weird for me to use. I think it looks awesome though, but I'd probably need a game like F355 to FORCE ME into playing like that for a while.

F355 rocked by the way.. Forza almost gives me that vibe, sans the.. Being made by Sega and therefore rocking. Oh and the soundtrack of course.

Yeah this picture looks great and all, but it's not how it looks on your average HDTV.
I'm not quite sure what it is, I think it's the way the lighting is captured that makes it look more realistic, but the game never looks as realistic as that screen on your HDTV.

And yes, the cockpit view works like a charm and I do feel much more comfortable using it rather than a 3rd person view...
