There’s no denying this game looks amazing and the lighting too, gamers / gaming press all agree, i mean you need watch the vids to see it all looks outstanding, and the features and the attention to detail are insane, bar raised!.

It looks just as barren as GT5's version imo, but with worse lighting judging from the new photomode pics. The trees in Forza's version do look better since it's not one whole bitmap though.

Agreed, at the moment, FM4 is truly in a class of its own in terms of visuals and features in the racing genre.

FM4 wins the Top Gear and Alpine tracks comparisons hands down. GT5's scenery has that cardboard look to it which makes it a no contest, really. GT5 probably still has better car models but the difference isn't as profound.

pretty much this! There's too much PS2 legacy code in GT5 and this is evident by a lot of things...the levels with cardboard scenery run at 60 FPS while the levels with decent real time geometry and effect run like crap (that rainy night highway level comes to mind) especially with all the cars on scene the frame drops big time.

I wonder what PD is up to...either Sony fired a lot of people or they working on something for PS4. I doubt they will bother with a PS3 game again

Switch off all the assists and engage Forza 4's all-new simulation handling mode and it's a strange and quite terrifying experience, a single lap of the fictional Alpine circuit seeing a Ferrari 599 spitting us into the scenery at every opportunity. The front engine, rear-wheel drive car lazily lunges into corners with heavy understeer before, just as it kisses the apex, snapping into aggressive oversteer that sends the rear flailing. After the relative stability of Forza 3's cars, it's a shock to find these cars so alive and so wild.

A new audio pass sees the Ferraris emit the throaty blasts that they should, while the purr of a muscle car has a satisfying bass. Even a road-spec Subaru Impreza belies its rally heritage with the bark it makes when you stab at the loud pedal.

Then there's the presence of Clarkson, Hammond and May, all three of whom provide detailed narrations of the cars themselves. Sitting alongside the clipped tones of the returning Peter Egan (Peter Egan!) they're an incongruous addition, though their obnoxious TV selves have been reined in and neutered to smooth the fit.

One of the key visual advantages Forza 4 has comes from what they call image-based lighting. Every surface in or on these cars takes in light so naturally that it's almost unbelievable. In a meeting at E3 yesterday Turn 10's Dan Greenawalt says that the visual technology used in this game is usually reserved for stuff like CG or commercials. And it looks like it. Gamers on the floor that don't give a flying fuck about racing games were commenting on how gorgeous the real-time visuals of Forza 4 are in passing. Again, you're not going to believe it until you see it for yourself.

This visual technology was easily shown in the game's Autovista mode. If GT5 was naughty car porn, Forza 4's Autovista is the dirtiest, nastiest, most sinful smut ever made. It's like that high-detail HD Blu-ray porn that's reserved for the perviest of perverts. I'm trying to say that it's beautiful. Greenawalt gave us a good, close-up look at this car viewing mode in a demo, and I was impressed with the game's ability to render up-close detail so clearly. You can stick your virtual face up to wheels, trim, fabric and more and see every little grain, light shimmer and sparkle. If you're as car horny as I am you may have taken a road trip to a luxury car dealer just to drool at pretty machines. The Autovista mode is like an unlimited pass to do that as long as you want, without having to feel the judgmental eyes of the dealership salesmen.
