Oh well, if you call 10 times higher poly count just some little more details....
It's definitly the poly count that does make GT5P/Forza 3 cars looks more real than Forza 2 cars. Forza 3 pictures prove you wrong ;)
Uhh, get your eyes checked, the polygons isn't what solely made Forza 2 ugly. The game had an atrocious lighting system that looked far from realistic. Just because you model a car accurately doesn't mean it's going to look photoreal. The Forza 3 pics actually prove it's the lighting that makes the cars look better.

Pretty much everything else you said is completely false and your videos don't support anything you just said. Forza 2's lighting is pre-baked, not "more dynamic" by the way. I think we all know where you stand in either being rational or just being a fanboy, which if I had known earlier I would have just added you to my ignore list so this thread wouldn't have gone deeper into the ditch.

Thats right, but there are also some cars in Forza 2 that are really good detailed and look very realistic. Not as realistic as Forza 3, but it's because of fewer details.

The Forza 3 pics actually prove it's the lighting that makes the cars look better.
No, it proves the opposite. From all gameplay footage you can clearly say that lighting is almost like Forza 2. And if you remeber yourself, it was YOU who said to the 60FPS Forza 3 video that lighting would be bad. And now it's good, just because you lack of facts? lol
Pretty much everything else you said is completely false and your videos don't support anything you just said.
Well, it's pretty useless to argue with someone who always reject the facts.
Every stupid men sees the flaws of the GT5P video.

The new one isn't. And I thought this topic was about GT5?

PS. Whoever said this topic would never be as bad as the original Forza 2 topic, well, told ya so.

Grift, this thread hasn't even remotely touched the epic nature of the Forza 2 thread haha.

You forget how bad the Forza 2 thread was :)

It's just going a week, we're months away from the release... and I doubt it'll be put to rest after that. I'm sure it'll grow epic proportions by October. ^^

With Forza 2, it grew to probably twice or three times this size in a matter of like 3 to 4 days if I remember.

There is far less arguing taking place in this thread :)

FM3's lighting is substantially better.

First is that in the lack of white spotted artifacting, especially along geometric seams, that were so common in FM2. This added *substantial* noise and was a failture of the FM2 lighting system, specifically their HDR implimentation. Another issue with the FM2 lighting engine was the range of their "HDR" which was pretty poor and washed out/overbright. The lighting system in general was oversaturated. Prebaked shadows are also a lot better in FM3, which is one of the reasons the world looks better. Everything looks more solid and grounded because there is much more detail in the shadows. It doesn't hurt that FM3 is applying what appears to be some AF (with bilinear filtering?) One of the BIG upgrades to FM3 is they are also doing higher resolution reflections with more frequent updates. FM2's reflections, e.g. on the hood, were not full resolution and they were probably ~15fps as they were exceedingly choppy as well as lagged.

FM2's lighting was pretty poor, as was the general rendering engine. Having played a lot of FM2 (and NOT just looking at online photomode shots) it is readily appearant that FM3 is a big boost in most areas. Yes, the higher poly count, cleaned up shaders (especially on the paint), and color-rebalancing really helped, but per the cars how they were doing lighting and reflections is where a substantial part of the improvements come from.

The game itself was -- and is still -- incredible so the graphics not being the most accomplished out there don't take away too much :)

The bring home to your momma analogy is awesome though haha. No more quickly throwing the sheets over the HDTV when company comes over.

Ok, 1st, yes some cars and tracks in forza 2 look great, and others look abysmall.

Forza 3 looks better, EVERYTHING looks better.

GT5 cars look better, they just do, but then again once i have the games side by side ill write more on that, and see exactly whats what.

For now, this is becoming more and more like the F2 thread, altho i dont think it can get as bad as that thread,... but then again some ppl are beant on breaking records, even the less noble ones ;)

We'll just agree to disagree then because that thread's length and the level of back and forth that took place in there is precisely part of what makes the 2 threads incomparable. The level of praise for both games also represents -- I think -- a great departure from the general mood around Forza 2. There was quite a bit of daylight between the opinions around Forza 2, whereas with Forza 3, the discussion is trending towards a far less disagreeable atmosphere than what was around the Forza 2 thread.

All in all, I've said pretty much all I'll say on the comparisons between the 2 threads and will now await more awesome media or information from Forza 3 :)

Well, Turn10 already avoided one mistake from last time: hyping the graphics and turning out a product faaaar less than they promised and instead of addressing such they pretty much insulted people's intelligence... only for the diehard Xbox/Forza fans going into uber defensive mode to protect their precious. This time around they didn't say much about the product and let the initial product envieling do the talking--and it did just fine on its own. So unless they start saying stupid stuff like, "There is no need for motion blur at 60fps" they won't have as many problems. And at least they didn't hype up showing something like this:

Yeah, I remember turn10 claiming it was going to look better than PGR3 and then released this shot.

???

Crap! GT5P doesn't even have closely that range if intensity than FM2. I pointed this out on some GT5P videos that looks horrible when it comes to contrast.
The lighting system in general was oversaturated.
Depends on the lighting condition. It's always the same, people like you demanding one special lighting they've seen on a photo and don't consider that lighting is always different. There is no track in GT5P with the same lighting conditions than Forza 2. GT5P cheats every lighting in that way that they don't need a big contrast range.

Take a look at these picture:

So you must think this leafs must be over oversaturated? Maybe you should file a complaint against nature.

Again, oversaturated:

Again:

And don't forget that these white artifacts are just a constraint of cameras that aren't HDR capable (so in rea intensitiy would be even higher).

Are you saying photography can't be over saturated? Cause.. lol.

Check out this HDRI photograph, obviously this is what the human eye sees in nature!
