2010-03-16 20:55:43 Gears of War 3 Thread. I really hope so!! Microsoft will launch Gears Of War 3 in early April 2011, a trusted US publishing source has told Edge. The first teaser trailer for the third person shooter is expected to debut next month on April 8, exactly one year ahead of the game’s pencilled in release date. A full reveal is due at E3 in June. While it hasn’t been officially announced yet, Gears Of War 3 is currently in development at series creator Epic Games. It will continue the story set out in the first two games, which centres on humankind's battle for survival against the nightmarish Locust Horde. Gears Of War debuted on Xbox 360 in 2006 and on PC a year later. A follow up was released for Microsoft’s home console in 2008. We understand that the game could be completed as early as this year, but that Microsoft is keen to release it during a different window to Halo: Reach – rumoured to be launching in September 2010 – and Natal, which is set to arrive this holiday. “Microsoft’s keen to avoid a clash with Halo: Reach and wants Natal to own Christmas. That’s why we won’t be seeing Gears Of War 3 until next year, but expect a major marketing push ahead of its release,” said our source. Epic vice president Mark Rein said this week that the developer won’t be releasing a game this year as it has chosen to focus on supporting titles made by customers of its Unreal Engine. |

Unreal Engine 3 and Gears of War series developer Epic Games is looking to maintain their “visual leadership,” design director Cliff Bleszinski said at the Game Developers Conference last week. “…the bar continues to rise,” he said in a chat conducted at the event. “We got ahead of everybody with Gears 1, [with] Gears 2 we kept that, and with future products we want to definitely maintain our visual leadership”. Epic used the GDC venue to show off improvements made to their popular game engine. “When you see what we’re doing with this [the image above is from the presentation], it’s going to blow your mind,” VP Mark Rein promised. Speaking of the Gears of War series in general, Bleszinski feels the series “still has a lot of growth.” “I think Gears is a huge and wonderful franchise that’s been very successful for us. But I think we can always try harder. I think we can always have better online mutiplayer. I think we can make a game that’s sticker and sticks in players’ heads more. I think we can tell stories even better,” he said, clearly hinting at the unconfirmed Gears of War 3. Furthermore: “.. we’re perfectionists and we always want to try harder … maybe there’ll be some announcements in the future that’ll kind of tease into some of that stuff.” |

2010-03-17 13:58:11 Well, it was planned as a trilogy all along, wasn't it? No doubt it'll continue after Gears 3, but i guess after that it'll be like the star wars movies or something. Episodes 1, 2 and 3 are all there, you just try to ignore them and remember the good times instead :P --- |

2010-03-17 15:40:52 Thing is though, mechanically Gears rapes other games frequently. Most games that derive their mechanics from Gears still struggle to meet even the first game's standards in terms of that awesome gameplay cycle it has going for it. --- |

I can see why someone would say Gears is certainly one of the best new franchises to come out of this generation. Uncharted and Mass Effect are both amazing as well though no doubt. As for the other two, surprise for sure but if that's your opinion that's perfectly fine. |
