I'm a sucker for rythm games, and it's hard to beat a knee slide "Star Power" solo in the genre so far I must say. It might not have the exotic appeal of something like Beatmania's many "I've never heard this in my life" jpop/electronic stuff, but it does give you an eerie sense of being in the role of a lead guitarrist that sometimes has you rocking out a bit more than a piece of plastic should (or you'd imagine would).
People were telling me how difficult 2 is to get into if you haven't played the first, but I think a little bit of experience with the likes of Amplitude and Beatmania has you covered.
Don't shy away from this game because it's "old" - it's quite frankly awesome.

And I never played the first one Simon, so I'm not sure I agree.. seems like a pretty easy game to get into personally. I noticed that stand alone guitar controllers seem to be hard to find -- are they just out of stock everywhere? If I pick this up soon (hopefully very soon) I would love to grab another guitar for it.
If the $90 price tag is putting you off, just search for some good deals. A deal for $76 (shipped!) was posted on CAG more or less the day it came out -- though I think that offer is long gone now. I'm looking for a good sale myself. $90 for GH2 is a bit steep for my cheap ass.
I'm a bit more into the beat this week thanks to my Boom Boom Rocket obsession but clearly I've got a long way to go before I'm any kind of Guitar Hero. I certainly think this has the potential to be the best version if the DLC is reasonable, and if, they could sort out multiplayer over live.
The nature of the game makes that very difficult though.
Still I'll be rocking away quite merrily over Easter :)

I wouldn't know how the game comes across for someone completely un-initiated, but I imagine it actually IS a bit more steep than for instance Frequency.

If you guys find it hard to hit the red/blue chord try sliding your hand down the neck to hit it with the index and ring finger. It really helps to move your fingers to different keys.
Turn down the suck!

I played the first one a bit at a friends house, so this one wasn't too hard to get in to. I just wish the fret board was a little longer. Feels a bit cramped at times.
I've been playing quite a bit since i got it on friday, I've almost finished on easy. 3 more songs to go.
Ha ha! I tried Them Bones on Expert just to see how hard it was though, I failed after 9%. :(
It IS a lot easier if you have had actual experience with playing a guitar though, one of my friends had, and he totally decimated us all on the first one.
