Anyone want to count?
Because a Halo 3 battle is supposed to have that many enemies/allies fighting in a single battle in Halo 3 -- not on a level, but in a battle. Which would indicate to me "on screen or immediate proximity".
Here's a comment from the IMAX showing near the end of Tsavo Highway
http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=124...
The group arrives at the Sergeant's location, and is ready to kick some ass when suddenly the situation becomes all too clear. Dozens and dozens of characters roam the canyon below, with a marine encampment up and to the left of the highway, completely surrounded by four or five Brute packs
....
This was short-lived, however, as three more Phantoms arrived and, literally, there were Brutes flowing out of them, as if someone had just turned on a giant fountain of hurt and pain. When all was said and done, there must've been at least another 30 Brutes added to the fray.
You can watch the stream or if your a member you can download it.

Mass Effect - Nov 07 - Start the Fight!!!
Bitches!!

So I drank Red Bull and vodkas for a couple of hours while we waited for things to get going again. Full marks to the MS crew for keeping everything on the up and up during the downtime.
quick two-second writeups:
NHL '08 - worth the score it got from EGM, holy shit EA well done
NHL 2K8 - graphics aren't as good as EA's effort, but gameplay? tight as hell
Halo 3 - WOW WOW WOW WOW is that single player? WOW WOW WOW WOW
Smackdown vs Raw 08 - same ol' same ol' (now with JEFF HARDY!!)
PGR four - driving with the cars looked niiiiiiiiice, but the motorbikes don't quite fit as of yet
Turok - game of the show, yup
Tony Hawk - looks like Neversoft is ready to answer Skate's challenge, but my mom says I'm not allowed to play skateboard games anymore, so no hands on impressions, sorry
Simpsons - you need to see this game in motion, it's the cartoon come to life. I'll buy it on day one despite the wonky targeting, it looks *that* good
There's more, but my voice is fucking gone thanks to the crowds who were checking out Turok, I can't believe how much great feedback the game got today. I gotta get some rest.
All in all, the Xbox 360's lineup this holiday and through next year is absolutely batshit insane with quality. It should be illegal to have this many heavy hitters in this short amount of time, but I'm not complaining. I'm not gushing for the sake of, the games coming down the pipe are really that damn good.
Thumbs way, waaaaaaaaaay up to MS for an awesome event. Glad I came out.
As far as Halo 3 goes, what can I say? The folks who were bitching about it being "Halo 2 in HD" are going to be eating a bit of crow in couple of weeks. It actually pumped me up a bit, knowing the competition that's coming up, but I'll be lining up to get a copy on release - and that's coming from a guy who wasn't all that chuffed about Halo 2. What I played today made me a believer. Fact.
Hironobu Sakaguchi is coming back to reclaim the throne :)
October 20th 2007 (A good day)
Don't ask any questions just shut up and buy Halo : Ghosts of the Onyx one of the greatest books ever.

Ohh and Halo 3 Goes Gold!!!
Three years in the making by renowned developer Bungie Studios, “Halo 3” is now finished and will begin its journey to store shelves around the world in less than four weeks. “Halo 3,” which has already set new records as the fastest preordered game in history, has exceeded one million presales in North America alone. The title is set to shatter day-one entertainment sales records when it is released worldwide beginning Tuesday, Sept. 25.
“This is a huge milestone for us and a big cause for celebration at Bungie and Microsoft Game Studios,” said Harold Ryan, Studio Head at Bungie Studios. “This is the game we’ve always wanted to make and certainly the best game our studio has developed. We can’t wait for gamers to get their hands on it on Sept. 25.”

Cant believe its been 3 years! feels like its been 20!
Now the longest wait begins...28 long painfully slow days...
Apparently the Brute did actually say "fucking Human". They've been talking about it over at Bungie.

Bungie's Lars Bakken created a new mode called Rocket Race that started off laugh-out-loud ridiculous but ended up so awesome we're hoping it'll be an included game type when the game ships
Bakken was busy on his own Xbox 360, setting up Rocket Race for us on Sandtrap, a wide-open, vehicle-oriented stage set in the desert. The idea is this: There are five teams of two, where one teammate is a VIP that the other must escort to certain objective points to score. Everyone has rocket launchers, and we all spawn together, near a fleet of two-man Mongoose ATVs. Bakken pictured each team running to a Mongoose (which the VIP can't drive -- he can only be the passenger in back), taking off, and firing rockets at the other duos in an attempt to prevent them from scoring.
Only one problem. When 10 players spawn together with rocket launchers, they tend to fire first and look for rides later. It was a total mess for about five minutes: spawn, boom, spawn, boom...no one really made it to a Mongoose to play the mode properly, so no one scored. But the explosive chaos was still hilarious to witness and play. Bakken decided we needed some rocket resistance, so we restarted the match with 300 percent health. That worked...for a bit. While the players were able to live long enough to drive away in Mongooses (we decided "Mongeese" sounds too ridiculous), it only took the lead team less than a minute to hit all four checkpoints to win the game. Again, Bakken needed to adjust a few things. He went back into Forge and added several more scoring markers.
In the evening's final iteration of Rocket Race, we weren't dying 0.5 seconds after spawning in, and the dozen or so objective markers were spread throughout Sandtrap enough to make it anyone's game. Rockets flew, Mongooses flipped, last-moment scoring blocks happened at every stop...what started as a frantic mess of a mode turned into a frantic good time after a few tweaks in the Forge settings.

I think it's really not a big deal regardless.. it's not hard science fiction.. and it's not trying to be, so why would they fall into line with those sort of rules.
