I'll probably get it, for the co-op (there will be co-op right?) but i'm not super excited. I hope it's good though, Bungie usually make decent games.

Sounds very cool!!
Microsoft has announced that this autumn it will launch Halo Waypoint, a new destination for Halo fans on Xbox LIVE.

The digital destination will inform fans of the latest Halo news and activities, and grant access to content ranging from podcasts, trailers and screenshots, to exclusive video footage you won’t find anywhere else. It will also provide a new challenge for Halo gamers with a career system and player rankings tied to both in-game and out-of-game accomplishments related to Halo.

Halo Waypoint will host a preview of the recently announced Halo Legends anime series this autumn. Additionally, Waypoint will debut several behind-the-scenes videos that chronicle the making of Halo Legends.

BTW the 10th anniversary movie reminded me of Ed Fries, I miss the guy, he was so cool :( His influence on the first Xbox was remarkable, I wonder what 360 would be like if he was still on board.

Ha, I forgot about that guy. I looked him up and he is now heading his own little company called Figure Prints. It's a company that recreates WOW characters in real life 3D, simply awesome.

http://www.figureprints.com/Movie.aspx

It's really cool, and now I don't understand how there isn't some sort of service where you can send them your own model, and they build it for you. I'm sure they would put limitations on the model, but then that's why other companies--or the very own company--would create a model based on info/media you give them.

The guys from Penny Arcade had their characters done and were very impressed.

There would be nothing to stop Bungie from attempting the same thing with your Halo charcter in a saved film technically. Sure the customisation aspect is dramatically diminished but it'd be cool.

I got a talented friend of mine to make a model for my best mate a couple of years ago;-

Ah! I knew it was Nathan Fillion. Why did they model the actual game character on him though? Thats weird.

i thought that too, maybe it's a contractual thing, buy his voice get his face for free...lol

or maybe it was part of the deal, if they wanted his voice, his face had to be in there too.

Possibly because Bungie are just as much fans of him as he is of them. He's a big Halo fan and apparently a decent guy

Gamplayer AU release some game machanics facts!
But it wasn’t just the ferry that took us to Cockatoo Island that rocked on this chilly but stunning winter night. As information about the game flowed forth, it became evermore apparent that this Halo experience will be quite different from those that have preceded it. Bungie are rocking the Halo boat big time! Here are a couple of the key points that we noticed.

Your shield no longer replenishes. Instead you have a health and a stamina bar and you will need to find vending machines around the New Mombasa wasteland that deliver the health packs required to keep your fight from being final.

There are four other ODSTs in your initial squad that have landed around the city and this cast of characters creates a lot more banter (think those early scenes from Aliens) and personality in the cut-scenes than with the previous games.

The world is completely open and non-linear. You have a map which identifies key points of interest which you can set waypoints at in order to find your way. A compass sits at the top of the screen to show which direction you are heading in, and the location and distance of important landmarks.

Four player co-op does exist, but it is unclear as to whether the four of you will drop in at the same location, or will be positioned in different spots around the city. Curtis talked about the benefits of setting up ambushes by putting a waypoint on the map and getting each player to converge on that position. What does this suggest?

The story is described as something of a whodunit – a mystery game. Your ultimate goal is to work out what happened to the other ODSTs that got separated from you during the landing. You will find objects about the town that, when interacted with, will instigate flashback missions where you play the story of the ODST to which the object belonged. Slowly you will unravel the full story. How this will work in co-op mode is possibly the bigger mystery though – if one person finds an object, do you all warp into a flashback level?

There's more...

Your helmet has an interesting vision mode which changes your view and the visuals into a bizarre cross between Ghost Recon Advanced Warrior and something cel-shaded. It cuts out some of the clutter and throws coloured borders around elements of the environment, including enemies, to reveal their purpose. Think of it like the scanner from Condemned, which shows up clues in florescent blue so you know you need to interact with it

The cut-scenes look ace. They really look a step-up, and they occur not just in-between levels, but are instigated in-game. So if you see an object on the ground and interact with it, a cinematic will show your character bending over and picking it up.

No sign of dual-wielding. In fact the rookie you play holds many of his weapons with both hands.

Covenant troops will still use equipment on you. One enemy dropped a bubble shield when under heavy fire with our ‘Halo 1 throwback’ pistol. No sign of campaign equipment for you, however.

The game appeared to be playing on normal Xbox machines, not debuggers. As in it was not code, it was final discs. As in the game is Gold and ready to go.

There you have it guys, everything we managed to divulge from last night’s brief playing experience. We’re particularly interested by the decision to include a health system. Halo’s regenerating shield was something of a landmark feature in FPS gaming, and to ditch it could have a kneejerk affect on hardcore fans. We can only hope that the full campaign experience is so heavily tiered towards stealth and tactics that the need to think about your health really works hand-in-hand with the gameplay. Certainly this is going to be a far different Halo experience to anything we have seen yet.
