I couldn't imagine Halo being an RPG. It doesn't seem... right to me.
The Halo Universe is certainly deep enough to house an RPG. I wouldn't center one round the Chief though.

Around an Arbiter type character however would be very cool, but unlikely to have enough mass appeal to ever get made unfortunately.

Actually it's more like trying to turn Halo 3 into an RTS or somth.

A Halo RPG based on a Spartan following his/her story from a child inductee to an elite Spartan would be awesome!!

I'd rather just have Mass Effect type storytelling but still maintain Halo's action.

I absoluvely loved the look of the 3rd person Spartans in Halo 3 when using a turret mounted weapon. Bungie nailed whatever tangible quality there was to the armour.

There is an unwritten rule: real RPGs are not allowed to have anything remotely similar to good FPS shooting or NG-style combat.

That's a shitty rule. For me, the best parts of RPGs are the character progression and customization. I'd like to throw story and storytelling in there, but aside from Mass Effect, I haven't played many RPGs with decent stories. Not that I think RPGs don't have good stories, but the Western ones I've played(ME excluded) haven't, and the...Japanesey qualities of JRPGs are distractingly ridiculous.

Personally i found the story telling in the halos to be shockingly shit (books aside here) and mass effects was incredible, i would rather have halo play and mass effect story telling.

And i find the story telling in the Halo games to be Great!, anyway back to Reach, Bungie just tweeted that they shared some Reach info with some gaming folks who will soon share the info with us!! cant wait.

Yeah that is what i was saying, also the Halo game stories although not great and def good enough to aid in the enjoyment of the game.

I think the storytelling in Halo is awesome, but it's not set up like an easily digestible movie with chunks of video. If you wanna know the full extent of a Halo story you need to pay attention, look around and listen up. It's a very dynamic, very gaming oriented way to tell stories, and it'll pass over your head easily if you don't care enough to pick up on it.

Halo 2 is pretty traditional with straight up, lengthy cutscenes, but that shrunk the storyline down to just the one told on the surface. Meanwhile, every other Halo has layers under layers to dig into, and that is ultimately much more rewarding. It also means that some people will go through Halo and only barely take away the gist of it though, but that seems fitting seeing as you can also often go through a game and only scratch the surface of it gameplay wise.

^^Same as Half Life, but none the less even if you route through it all the story is still shallow in the games, but this is my opinion rem, not law :)

I agree for the most part, all 3 of the Halo stories are great and are told we'll and are in no way shape or form "crap", but your right you really have to tune in and listen to pick up some really interesting revalations into the Halo story, i though ODST did this very well, if you just ran through the game without taking the time to investigate and dig into the game theres so much you would have missed out on.

there not "crap" but in comparison to "mass effect" it is crap, i LOVE halo i really do my games room is a shrine to it, BUT i just find the Halo story in the games is like Half Life as simon points out, thing is i DONT like the way Half Life is told, you may say "yeah man thats because you did not put enough effort into finding the story" no i dont want to FIND the bloody story, i want it in my face so i can carry on enjoying the gamePLAY side of things.

Thats sound thinking yes, but i'm just talking about my opinion here, i am not TELLING you its shit i am just stating that is wha ti think, and that a game like mass effect with the halo story telling would be arse IMO, but at the end of the day this conversation is pointless cause as you pointed out earlier... i miss read that quote

But anyway Halo RPG IMO would be naff :)
