Sure there are definite signs where the bar quality wise isn't quite as high in some places as they were in others, but it's still very well done imo.
I'd go into specifics, but too many spoilers. I'm enjoying it a great deal. That's actually the disc I'm on now I really like how they handled things. It allows me to get a feel for other mortal character skills I can add to my immortals and allows me to get my party up to my standards.
All in all I don't really see a thing wrong with disc 3. I had my reservations about it when playing the japanese version, but I'm really getting the most out of it with the usa version now imo. Definitely having a great time with it. I don't have a problem with the path of the story at this moment to be honest.
I actually like that things played out the way they did.
There isn't really a disc that I don't like in this game to be honest.
I do probably know why jolli doesn't like disc 3 quite as much though. Disc 1 and 2 had an amazing uniqueness about them isn't as apparent in disc 3, but I love it nonetheless. There were some truly unforgettable moments in the first 2 discs, but then there are some awesome moments in disc 3 as well. I don't really take anything away from disc 3 because things had to settle down a bit.

Kind of bizarre discusion though, if it were a PS3 game we wouldn't even be having it. :S

That said, the story (the vague, bordering on feeble attempts at one anyway) gets more engaging towards the end I reckon, but I think I'm with Jolli if I look at it purely in terms of gameplay. The third disc from a gameplay perspective was easily the most annoying, and the bosses sort of just stopped being interesting after the first disc, feeling entirely random and.. usually you get away with good old brute force.. which is certainly not something the first boss indicated.
3 is where it does the best job of feeling like it's actually going somewhere story wise but it sort of snaps back into being mostly about... walking around a lot after that. The biggest obstacle in the way of fun here is when they've gotten "creative" with puzzles and what have you. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm QUITE the puzzler (Professor Layton is on his way to my house as we speak) but not these dumb kinds of puzzles where you spot the solution a MILE off and all that's stopping you is random encounters and not being able to see the area properly or at least a map of it, constantly running into dead ends while repeatedly assaulted by wildlife and such.
1 and 2 have so far been the most about what this game has done best, which is fun bosses and fun combat.
I think I will finish it tonight and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a memorable last boss encounter.

But by all means, if you reckon the "story" has even kicked off by the end of the first disc then there's certainly only up to go from there.
For me? I'm quite frankly baffled at the lack of intrigue, and this being my first properly played jRPG I do certainly hope this isn't the norm.
