LMAO...strange.

why would there be a need for 256 players on a single screen? this isnt some cluster-fuck UT type game...it's squads taking on objectives across a larger map. hell, i dont think i've ever seen all 16 players on screen in a game of cod 4....why would that suddenly happen in a game with a much higher player count?
I that's not what I meant. What I should have said was i doubt the possibility and freedom for at least 100 people to meet at a location. I'm sure there's a catch somewhere as many developers/publishers always have one.

the thing is, it's probably possible, but as i said, why would you? you rarely, if ever see all 16 players at any one time in cod4, or all 32 in UT3...i cant imagine all 256 players in MAG to ever feel the need to congregate in one area, not unless you did so artificially....and i'd like to see you organise 256 people to gather in a single spot. just not gonna happen. whether the possibility is there or not.

If it is as you say then I am impressed. It would be nice to have around 100 players in one of the maps of warhawk or battlefield 2.

BF2 maps with more than 64 players are sorta crowded as hell. It's almost like playing COD4 with more than 16 people. The level design needs to compensate for the number of players to make the game actually playable. They need systems in place to actually manage the flow of combat or it will just be a crazy fucking mess.

Well, that would be even worse, considering the more condensed level sizes. It would definitely not be nice to have 100 players in Bad Company. The game isn't designed to handle that kind of player count, and I'm not talking about its graphics engine or its netcode. It would be ridiculously crowded. I've played 64 player games of COD4 for example and it's... stupid.

if it was designed with that in mind, i genuinely think it is. but throwing 64 players in cod4 would be rediculous.

That's what MAG is hoping for ;)

It does look pretty interesting though. I'm sure they'll take precautions to make sure that it actually handles that kind of player count. That may mean funneling people into more condensed areas but that's not a bad thing. I think it's more interesting now that we've actually seen it. The initial hype surrounding the player cap only made me skeptical.

That it is.. that it is. Hell, 32 players is ridiculous enough.

Nope, it's still not. There's no reason that more can't be awesome, but there's also no reason that an 8-10 player game can't trump a 256 player game in every possible way. You don't need hordes of players to make an online FPS interesting.

Some of the best games of BF2 I ever played were 5v5's on 16 player maps.

All the best experiences I've had playing online(except for one or two mmorpgs) have involved smaller numbers of players. The only time I really ever had fun playing BF:1942 was over a LAN with maybe 2-3 other people. Spies vs Mercs was ruined for me when it made the jump to 3v3 instead of 2v2(in addition to also ruining the core gameplay).

Aside from being able to have a feature list bullet point, I guess I don't see the need for such a large number of players in an FPS. I suppose there are people who enjoy heavily populated games...so great for them then.

Maybe you wouldn't enjoy 100 players on a bad company map but I would(Assuming the gunplay is good). The maps arent small it only seemed small because at any given moment only a certain area of the map was open.

Most of the time, yes. Let's try not to pretend that opinions can't be dead wrong.

Of course I think your opinion is wrong, just like you think my opinion is wrong. DUH.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, but yeah, opinions can be wrong when things don't come down to that.

I could say "in my opinion, the earth is flat" and well that is not right. And that's why we discuss so much things like gameplay and graphics, etc. I just thought I would throw out this comment after so many discussions on opinions.

You could also say, in my opinion Big Rigs is the best game ever.. or in my opinion Street Fighter would be better with 20 players.. or in my opinion all FPS should have health packs (lol).. or like a million other arbitrary things and yes, in my opinion, you'd be very fucking wrong.

Qualifying something as an opinion does not protect it from criticism. That's ridiculous.

In your opinion, KornDOG, more = better. In my opinion, that's a silly broad statement that doesn't actually mean anything. Better = better.

Definately sounds interesting after watching that. Hope to see some demo gameplay soon...not just clips like that other vid. Especially some footage of these special leader abilities they were talking about.

I'd really like to have some varying environments. I hope when this game kicks up, they put in some modern city-scapes, for really maddening slaughter-fest :)

So far we've seen the jungle-looking base theme and also previous they've showed us a brown/orange factorycomplex map, i think it was. I am aswell hoping for some city action though i think that would be really awesome. Something along the lines of the citymaps in BF2 only alot larger and mayeb the possibility to go inside buildings aswell. I want this to feel like war so let's hope they can make that happen.

Absolutely, that and maybe several themes to it, like present day, post-apocalyptic, futuristic kinds etc. It will be sooo awesome.
Something along the lines is already happening with WarHawk 2. They are taking up outer-space themes to it and calling it StarHawk. Would be great to have space-stations, anti-grav shootouts and maybe, just maybe different planetary systems and cities on them. That departure from 50's war themes is totally welcomed :)

Blasphemy!

Onto something else though... Happy news for me and everyone else who signed up for the beta on the european side of the psn blog.
Anyway, enough waffle and onto the good news... I can confirm (according to the Ops team) that everyone in all regions who registered but never received their code will be sent one over the course of tomorrow, probably by 2-3pm UK time. Furthermore, in an effort to try and do a Quantum Leap ("put right what once went wrong"), we will be sending out codes to the remaining 20,000-odd people who registered. So, if you managed to register on the site before the competition closed, I am told that you WILL get your code tomorrow (barring any network, ISP or email bounce problems that are beyond our control).
Tomorrow when that was written is today.

Got a chance to try this out abit yesterday and it's really good actually.
The controls are abit weird and takes some time getting used to, framerate is stabile and doesnt drop at all it seems, explosions going around and about 20 guys running around on screen and no slowdowns. Weapons seems to be balanced well although the bullets dont spread that much and it's therefore too easy to hit stuff from a distance at most times. Really enjoyed it alot sofar and hopefully i can get some more time with it later tonight.

This game seems like it has some really cool ideas, but I have no idea how this is going to be able to compete with MW2, and then later BFBC2. They better have some really damn good gameplay ideas other than large populations. Sounds promising though, lets hope they can make it work.
