Basically, they just tossed the RPG out the window and brought on a load of bad shooting instead. Especially after Dragon Age i must say that the RPG bits of ME2 feel very much tacked on in a lame attempt to hide the shitty shooter underneath.
I expected so much more from bioware. Oh well, at least it has a stable framerate and no pop-ins :P
And yeah, i also like the first game a bunch, probably played it through 3 or 4 times.
Take a bath!? Get a bike!
Just 2hrs in and loving it more than the first, its so much more cinematic and the action is balls to the wall fun!

I think i have stood in poo
This is more a "i cant belive they fucked it up" to me this is halo 2.
I think i have stood in poo
I guess what i really want to ask the people saying this is great is something like this: Since when did cinematic become the same thing as a good game?

The two hours I played were good and I'm invested. Whilst I can see that a lot of the changes make sense and are well justified from a game design perspective, I do wonder if they've gone a bit too far.
Borderlands was a game that had an infinite amount of weapons, relatively simple class system & skill tree but proper levelling. It was still accessible and commercially successful. The weapon / inventory system in the original Mass Effect was a mess, but did they really need to simplify weapons, experience gain and the skill tree to the extent that they have? Mass Effect 2 has less "RPG elements" than Borderlands when you break it down to the mechanics.
On the other hand, Mass Effect 2 also leans very heavily on conversations and making decisions, y'know actually "role-playing". Which is the real RPG? One way of looking at it is to suggest Bioware have just stripped it right down to the bare bone essentials.

Prepare To Drop!!
And everyone who says that ME2 isn't crpg because it doesn't have enough numbers or inventory was stripped away is just moron. Seriously, I much more prefer the ME2 approach to items than the mess that was in ME1, when you turned to gel or sold 95% of the stuff you collected. Other things, like upgrades, are still there. I got a feeling you guys complain about this game after 2 hours of play. Yes, there are less skills, but why? Because you don't spend points on paragon/renegade skills, because you don't spend skills to hack/decrypt. Besides, you can learn new skills later in the game (and some of them are badass).
In my opinions there are only 2 things that Bioware dropped a ball with: lack of weapon stats (descriptions are nearly not enough) and a freaking mini game with scanning planets (which will be a MAJOR pain in the ass when replaying the game). Other than that, amazing game. And if anyone will say that Borderlands is more crpg than ME2 I will punch them in the nose and laugh in their face.
I believe they made a lot of necessary fixes for 2 but when 3 happens there had better be ample armors/weapons and a complex tree like in 1. I do not like how simple the trees are now, it's the one major downside to the game.
A little deeper customization would be nice, yes, but in the end it's one of the best stories with some of the best characters in any game this gen. As for the combat "failing", I couldn't agree less. IMO the combat is one of the game's strongest aspects. Better and more satisfying than most full-fledged shooters in fact.
More than anything I just really like Bioware and all their work, I'm really happy to see them getting such rave reviews. A 96% on gamerankings is well deserved guys!

I also believe that RPG fans never once guessed that the rpg elements were really at risk of being gutted, that's why so many of us were caught completely by surprise.
I've gotten into a few discussions about this with gamers at work, nothing nasty mind you, everyone is civil. Some still insist on calling ME2 an RPG, but if you took a game like Gears of War, gave it a dialogue tree and customizable armor, it still wouldn't be an RPG would it? Of course not. If RPG gamers really want ME to return to it's role playing roots, they're going to have to complain and whine just as loud as the gamers who complained and whined about ME1.
Maybe Bioware will listen.
I am NOT hating here i am not been stupid and not been a fanboy i am fucking GUTTED! big fucking diffrence, i was looking forward to this game maybe not as much as DC and co, but thats mainly because i did not want to be let down so i refused to ride the hype shaft.
Low and behold...
I think i have stood in poo
I want to get this drama figured out, before I start banning people.
They seem to think that because i am absolutely gutted over a game i was looking forward to that i am a fanboy (yes i prefer ps3 over 360 and 360 over wii... so fucking what, i got all three think i am allowed to choose which i prefer)
It was like when i slated the shit out of halo 2 everyone jumped on my back and tried raping me ring, but now years later everyone agrees that halo 2 single player was absolute shit compared to the others
(halo 2 compared to most games of its time was good, but compared to halo 1 it was shyt)
I think i have stood in poo
Yes i i have issues trying to "explain" myself 99.9% of the time on here but thats because i'm dyslexic and suck at it :)
Anyways, been as though i paid 6 notes to rent this game i will try it again later if i get chance, because i am still in disbelief it was a as boring as it was, so this time i will try playing it while not pissed out my head on guiness.
