PGR3 vs Real Life Comparisons

Customisation is annoying. In GT and forza, all you end up doing is buying a car and buying every upgrade there is. Gets boring...
You make no sense...let me tell you what is boring, driving the same cars on the same tracks, not being able to upgrade them, and no customization what so ever...THAT is boring.

Scarface you've obviously have never played a racing game that allows you to customize your car the way you want it (GT or Forza)...otherwise you would know how much fun it is making your cars truely yours...tuning them to your liking, and just making them more personal.

Congratulations critx - you're part of the 1% of the population that actually earned more than half the cars in gran turismo or forza.

I've played a lot of forza and gran turismo, and unlocked all the cars. But if you really think that THAT is what makes a good racing game experience, and anything else is not "depth", then you're lying to yourself.

A larger number of people enjoy the acccessibility of the PGR style games than the mind numbing tweaking and testing of gear ratios and suspension setups in GT or forza.

I had ot stop playing forza online because i didn't feel like constantly going through my cars and retweaking to keep up with the joneses after a while.

Loved the game, but unless I was willing to dedicate my life to getting better at it, i couldn't run with a lot of people just because they were putting 10 hours into finding the perfect setup.

Good for those people...but in my opinion, PGR lacks alot compared to other racing games.

The series has never been about the customization of cars and all of a sudden it's a problem?

What are you doing on an xbox site? You don't seem to like anything on here. PGR, Halo, Forza, Fable, the list of outstanding games goes on.

Have you failed to read my posts on other Xbox games and upcoming Xbox 360 games? They look awesome...so I don't care for a few, does that mean I have to leave?

You make it sound like I have to love every Xbox game in order to be apart of this site...

No, but I'd personally appreciate it if you just accepted the pgr3 series as it was whether you like it or not instead of suggesting that it replace forza, simply because no new forza game has been officially announced.

I do appreciate PGR for what it is...a racing game. But im not going to say I like it when I truely don't. I say its a possibility that it maybe could replace Forza if it went in that direction, which I doubt it will.

As you can see though, Scarface gets his panties in a wad whenever I say I don't like an Xbox/Xbox 360 game....im not the only one on this site who gives criticism to some of the games.

Not officially, but we know one's in the works. Microsoft Forza Studios has put job postings everywhere for it.

By the way, the best racing game on any platform has less than 20 cars.

Oh I don't doubt for a minute that forza will be back, they just don't want to announce it too soon, the original forza was in development for along time before it launched. They're not just gonna throw that away.

So no customization what so ever...okay...well then they have to make up that with cars...so how many cars does it have?
Wait a second, you are criticizing a game that you do not even know the BASICS about?!
Posted by Critx
I would be a fan of PGR if it had more too it...
Why not play the game before you make such statements??
Posted by rjcc
What kind of logic is that? PGR3 isn't a deep sim racer, it's deeper than burnout, but still fun to play and most people can drive decently after a few races.
Agreed. I think some people are just being critical because they either dislike the 360 OR dislike the style. People need to remember though that racing games are very diverse:

NASCAR
F1
Rally (Sega Rally)
Sim (GT, Forza)
Arcade (Rush style)
War (Twisted Metal)
Derby

And so on. There are also mix breeds. While it IS fair to compare, as a game being fun and "good", a Football game to a Basketball game to a Soccer game, it is NOT fair to say, "Basketball sucks, so MLB Baseball 06 is better than NBA Live".

I think we see a LOT of that with PGR3. Fans of particular series (or consoles) are judging a game--they have not played--based on their expectation of a racer of their taste.

Personally I hate Burnout style games, yet I can recognize it is a great series. Racing fans--which are a LOT of gamers--want different things. To bash PGR3 because it ain't GT/Forza or ain't Burnout is silly.

The key is WHAT does PGR3 offer within its own style/genre of racing, and how does it compare **as a game**. It wont have the customization perks of GT/Forza, but does it add gameplay and replay in other ways? It may not be over the top like Burnout, but is it fun and exciting to race?

That's right, but not every thread needs to turn into a flame fest EVERY TIME.
Show some self control. See what your doing, see what the consequences are.

It's not fun taking part in a thread full of people bickering at each other, and the YDE looks worse because of it.

[edit]
THAT MESSAGE IS FOR EVERYONE

some of you need to learn to ignore people's comments if they bother you that much.

This is not to be discussed anymore.
Get it back on topic, if we can.

If you are serious about driving games, I'd say it's one of the few games worth upgrading a computer over. But I really can't recommend the game without a proper force-feedback wheel - it wouldn't be the same.

well just tried the demo! it's NIIIIICE! played well at 1280x1024. the no-meet-sys-requiement thing must've been off. what wheel do you use? that Gran Turismo usb wheel works on pc also, right. game played well on my pad, though.

I know what you mean.. A wheel is the best for racinggames on either PC or gameconsoles, but at least a controller with analog sticks and triggers is a lot better then a keyboard on the PC for racing.. I actually think racinggames is a genre that fits better on consoles then the PC because of the controls and just the whole experience.. Games like GTR or GT-Legends on the PC with keyboard are no fun at all, almost the same as FPS with a controller for me.. ;)

Well even with a gamepad you are not getting half the experience (force feedback). I don't think I'd be able to keep the GTR cars on the road without it, let alone using a pad. Maybe arcade mode would be okay.

Yeah the PS2 Driving Force Pro wheel works with PC but I have not tried it. I ise the Logitech MOMO, the best wheel in my opinion (better grip, better paddle shifters, better everything). It's also fifty bucks cheaper than the DFP - total bargain at a hundred bucks. Sure it doesn't have the degree of rotation that the DFP has but I hardly ever come close to the bump stops.

True, that probably also why console racers, even GT and Forza etc are arcade compared to GTR or GP/GT-Legends..

I have a "old" Guillemot Ferrari FF wheel for my PC, but to be honest I never really use it (I bought it for GP4 I think it was long time ago), I just enjoy the console racinggames (with a controller) more for some reason.. It's not so much the controls, but more the whole experience of relaxed playing on the couch on a big TV I guess.. Probably the same reason why people play FPS on consoles I think.. I guess if you're used to hardcore racers like GTR etc on the PC with a wheel, you won't find racinggames on a console with a controller fun, same as I don't find FPS on consoles fun because I'm a hardcore compatitive PC FPS gamer..

yeah i was looking at that wheel. i think i'm going to just wait for a good wheel for the 360 and use that for pc, too(provided that the drivers support it). also playing this with xbox pad is pretty nice(force feedback and all).

There is something to be said about relaxing with a gamepad, I agree completely. I was playing Richard Burns Rally a lot this weekend and it really takes a lot out of me (having to concentrate so hard, fighting the feedback, etc).

I built a better one with parts from Home Depot. This is the seat I used:

I cant say anything bad about this game, it has beautiful graphics fun gameplay(im even starting to like th cone challeges, they were diffucult for me at first). This is my fir PGR game i owned. PGR3 is a godsend for the 360 considering how poor the launch was for some. It definately shows off some of the 360s power.
