Animation is not something MGS is known for, but it's definitely improved over MGS3 I think. Of course you can only really get a proper feel for it in the end game. I am very impressed overall.

It's especially ironic how people complain about the animation in this in the same breath as saying Gears looks better. If anything, this and that game are brothers in coarse animation.

Im still watching the videos, and i think the animations are fine. The part where he flips over the edge on to the main floor is nice. I hate how Gears is the standard for every game in existence now.

I'd rather play this than many other games, there just seems so much to do, with a much less limited scope than most games. The gameplay really looks excellent to me.

Agreed. And i really like that there are different ways you can even play the game, 3rd person, over the shoulder, and fps? And a fully 3d camera. Feels like Kojima is really going all out to satisfy gamers' issues with previous games.

Gears is just the standard game to bring up for 360 owners wanting to rub in how PS3 game X isn't good looking. I don't think some people who use it as an example even likes it, or necessarily have even played it.

Which is also sad, because Gears is fucking brilliant, and I can see people being turned off it just by hearing about it all the time in situations like this.

The game is being discussed elsewhere on the site aswell, where the Gears comparisons are very frequent. I didn't realise the context of the game was confined to only certain threads on the subject.

I think the fact that theres so much going on in this game in comparison to gears, and that the landscape seems to stretch on for quite a while makes comparisons pretty pointless.

Ah, ok. I didn't make any Gears comparison anywhere, but I said the animation is bad in this very thread... There are a lot of animations and they are very detailed, I have to admit. However, many of them have that robotic feeling, they just don't feel right to me. also transitions are often quite clumsy. I'll make a comparison to Double Agent, which I played on Xbox 1. Developers of course had a lot less system resources and it didn't have as many different animations as in MGS4, but Sam had movement that for the most part really fit a sneaking man - his animations were very smooth and soft. Of course, some moves were off (for example jumping). Also rag doll is a bit off in MGS4.

That said, having seen the video, I have to admit that the game evelved in right direction and it seems much more exciting than MGS3 (which I didn't like at all).
