yey for cave levels /sarcasm

and is that a genuine puzzle i see? if so thank god, resi 4's idea of a puzzle was finding an item that was in the same room and carrying it 5 feet.

korn: well calling the pre-re4 brand of item-swapping genuine puzzles seems a bit...strange to me. Silent Hill, now that's a game with nice puzzles. Like the piano room and stuff like that.

I'm a bit worried about the excavated-ancient-ruin look of the shots though...the sweet, rotten smell of cliché is seeping through :)

Seems to be a great game. Graphics are nice, controls work well, sound effects and ambiance is nice. Two things bother me though. First off it's very frustrating that Sheva can die, leading to a game over. That only happened a few times courtesy of the executioner though, so i don't think it'll be a major problem. That leads in to my second beef, the "boss" enemies. Both the executioner and the Chainsaw fuck could just take way, WAY too much abuse. I shoot the guy in the head and smack him for the 7th time and stick a grenade up his bum, yet he still manages to saw my head off.

Well all in all i'm looking forward to the game, i just hope the mini boss ratio in the full game is somewhat less than in the demo.

I'm downloading it right now. The fact that your AI buddy can die sounds pretty annoying...which is why I am going to play this game exclusively co-op. I don't really give a crap about Resident Evils story so I'm going to play this purely for the co-op fun.

During my play-throughs, she only died once. The rest of the time, she was actually an enormous help. It's actually easier playing(at least the demo) with an AI-controlled Sheva than with a friend.

My only worry is that in later levels she may be more prone to dying, but it's really only a minor concern.

Agree. As long as the AI is not completely useless, allowing her to die will make the experience more intense, i will try to download tonight (if my connection is back up) and play with the AI teammate and then with a Live buddy.

That chainsaw guy is just insane. I led that fucker to 3 barrels and blew them sky high, shot him in the head and smacked him several times and still he didn't die...i can't get past that guy and it's starting to piss me off :P

Any tips on dealing with him? Ron?

I don't really have any tips on taking him out quickly. All you can really do is use the barrels, grenades, the electrical transformer, and always try to go in for the melee attack when he's stunned. It takes a lot, but it's easy to avoid getting hit.

Sheva's AI is fine, but I chose to play with a friend after I kept dying by that Axe guy. Took us 8 tries before we realized that the only way to survive is just by running away. Not much ammo either, and that small gold is fucking useless in the demo. The chainsaw guy was pretty easy. We beat that level on the first try. Just as awesome as I knew it'd be.

That depends on what display your are using.. The lower your refreshrate the more tearing I think..

Besides all that, RE5 looks nice, but it's not that spectacular with it's graphics as some were saying.. I cannot say it looks better then GoW2 for example.. And it's physics are plain weird, with bodies flying away with killed (I hope they fix that in the full game).. In the end I dunno if this is a game for me, it feels so restricted in it's (limited movement, stupid inventory menu's that take you out of the game while zombies keep coming etc etc) gameplay which I don't like.. I like the co-op options though..

yeah, its the first thing i noticed when i played the demo. but when you're being chased you kind of forget its there, its in the low action areas where its just right in your face.

they need to add v-sync to their engine...pronto.

Can someone explain to me what tearing is? I probably don't notice it because I don't know what I'm looking for.

Although, maybe I should keep it that way. I'd hate to know what it was and get distracted by it.

It's syncing the games frame rate to your televisions hertz/refresh rate.
If it's not done then you get "frames on top of frames" effect, which is called tearing.
A result of the television/monitor not being able to keep up, in a sense.

With LCD's this can be a problem as most of them are just displaying at 60 hertz, though there are some that can do 120 now.

Keep in mind this isn't going to fix a low framerate, lol.

Gamersyde have captured many pics of tearing in action, I'm surprised you haven't noticed.

damn, I should have just posted this link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screen_tearing
If you do a Google image search I'm sure you'll find some examples.

imagine slicing the imagine in half horizontally, and sliding the top image right a little bit so the image isnt whole anymore...thats basically what screen tearing is.

and for me, its the most annoying thing a game can have after framerate issues.

V-sync isn't used because it causes massive ammounts of framedrops if the hardware can't keep the fps above 60 fps at all times.. It's a hardware limitation, they either go for best graphics, or lower it a bit and add v-sync..
