Sega HAVE done some good stuff recently. Firstly as far as Sonic goes there is Sonic Rush on the DS which I love.

Also is everyone forgetting Super Monkey Ball? One the best value for money games on the market.

Yet Yakuza is almost a carbon copy of Shenmue
Complete buckets of NO. If anything it's a copy of Spikeout.

Also, Yakuza sold really, really well in japan, and that's why it's getting a sequel.

Sonic Rush is brilliant, but I'd have to agree with Jolli that those handheld series don't exactly feel like a true entry in the main series. It is an incredibly good game though, I wholeheartedly agree.

Well i disagree massively on that one. Spikeout was arcade only wasn't it ? (edit ok maybe not, perhaps i'm think of something else)

Either way Yazuka is so much like Shenmue at times it's unreal, it's just nowhere near as interesting.

Spikeout is a beat em up anyway isn't it?

Shenmue didn't do well because Sega stuffed it up, the release Shenmue 2 on the dreamcast in Europe with JP vocals and Eng sub's) released the xbox version in America some 2 years later, never released it in Japan on xbox (but then it wouldn't have sold anyway) and most importantly had no advertising what so ever.

Yakuza did well because .. hmm lets think ..oh yes it was on the PS2, now if Shenmue 2 had been released on the PS2 it would have done really well, i'm pretty sure.

Same goes for JSRF and Panzeer Dragoon sure they wouldn't have looked so good graphically, but they would have sold a ton more.

Which brings me back to Sega and their inane ability to screw things up. (points to Sonic)

I will hold judgement on SEGA untill I see and play SEGA Rally Revo.

Take one 360, add some chopped PS3, stir in some Wii, a sprinkling of DS Lite. Enjoy :)

Yup i am hoping for great things from that game, loved Sega Rally on the DC, although i loved pretty much everything on the DC, probably why I wish Sega would sort themselves out so much.

At least VF5 and VT5 looks pretty cool, so there is hope for Sega Rally.

ahh the DC I have 3 (yes 3) tucked away for rainy days.

But Sega rally on the saturn was better, all but being a pop up nightmare.

I honestly can't see the similarities between Yakuza and Shenmue. I really can't see any of it, and I've played Yakuza through to the end. It's just Spikeout with a hub world and a sometimes engaging story.

Slap, thud, thwak, clobber, ugh!, zoom, kapow!

Thwak, zap!, chink!, swoosh, krack, punch, ow!, made by, WHAM, sock!, the same team even, whap-flabble!, and the same director, clobber-THOOM!, wibble!

Have you even played Shenmue ? :|

It's Shenmue all over without QTE (even the fighting bits are basically the same)

Edit:- Actually no Shenmue's fighting engine is much superior, even though you fight much less in Shenmue, kind of odd really.

Kind of odd how good Shenmue looks even now.

Yea that game was a rollercoster off emotions from coming home to a broken home and a dying father, to Nazomi leaving for Canada.

Finding Magumi's kitten and naming it Mimi.

Looking for drunken sailors in a dodgy part of town in the middle of the night. :\

Or saving the baby fawn in the muddy river.

And discovering the cave at the end of Shenmue 2.

Ahh the memories.

Will the story go on ... ? Is there still hope

Really, if you guys haven't played them yet, all the Advance games and Rush are great. And I mean that in a completely non-flawed loading times of DEATH way. They're pure, unadulterated Sonic splendor.

The Advance was great, but just didn't have that pixel perfect (throw pad at wall) ingredient.

I traded the game in for Viva Pinata.

I thought it was amusing how the game does a PIME TARADOX in the ending. It's as if Sega said have way through "is there a way to make it so that this game doesn't exist in the rest of the sonic universe? Can we erase this from all memory?"

Ah...I'm glad it's out of my house. Haven't been that pissed off over a game since Grandia 3

I'm pretty slow, but I'm just noticing how Silver's theme is a spin on the Green Hill Zone music from the first Sonic, and the final song in the game is the final song from Sonic 2.. I think.. My friend Dom reckons anyway. I just recognized it and asked him. :O

Silver's theme's stopping by my WMP quite often I have to say. I think it's really good.

...Seriously? After about hour 9, the story becomes so god awful, it feels like someone drilling into your ear. I mean god, it's like they got bored of the story and just had someone who doesn't have a very good grasp on coherency to finish it up. TERRIBLE story. Great combat system. Legendary Combat system. But why would I wanna use that combat system if the story I'm using the combat system to see is so bad?

And yeah, Sweet Dreams is a remix of the lyrical version of the Sonic 2 end theme. The song is about 10 years old now.
