I enjoyed Morrowind more than Oblivion if I'm honest.
I thought the world was a lot more varied with all the different environments, cities, etc...

I am looking forward to this one though!

Yeah, Morrowind was just a much more interesting landscape to explore, and the non scaling loot/enemies made you want to actually walk around and explore.

Which, curiously, given how much better Fallout 3 is, makes Oblivion the worst Bethesda RPG in the last decade. Not that it's not a helluva game still, because it is, especially modded.

I think I'm one of the few that liked Oblivion more than Morrowind. I think it was for nothing more than the extremely shallow reason of "I liked the look of the forrest in Oblivion."

I liked Oblivion a tiny bit more than Morrowind and MUCH more than Fallout 3

I think that's why most people like Oblivion more than <insert better RPG name here>.

Well to each his own, right? I didn't really dig Fallout 3, but I bought Fallout 3 New Vegas a month ago and I'm loving that!

Fallout 3 was pretty dull. The setting was great at first, but it eventually got stale - I never even finished the main storyline, let alone anything else! Despite having very little diversity in its locations, I found Oblivion to be far more enthralling and could easily play it hours upon hours at a time (even now). Even I can accept that it's not without its flaws, but the core of the game was so compelling that I could easily ignore those shortcomings. I also still believe it to be a beautiful game, albeit not as much as when I played it for the very first time.

Suffice to say that Skyrim is easily my most anticipated game of 2011.

So the main story in Oblivion was more compelling? Come on, admit it, you just like pretty forests :P

Maybe :( Haha.

I wouldn't say Oblivion had a more compelling story, but it contained one which I felt more inclined to finish.

The only plot in Oblivion that I really love is the assassins guild, which is ridiculously awesome.

Yep, one of the best side missions ever
Loved the quest where you were in a house with 7 other people and you had to kill them one by one, without any of em suspecting you.. AWESOME!

That was by far the most awesome quest in the entire game :)

I think it was the world in Oblivion that made it so compelling. The exploration and side-quests. The main story was something I went back to after hours and hours of dungeon crawling and exploring. Fallout just wasn't that interesting to me. I was also very disappointed that they hadn't improved on their atrocious human characters. That is the biggest thing they need to work on, IMO. Animation. Voice acting. Modeling. If they can make the combat more visceral, I'd love that too. I still found the combat quite fun in Oblivion. Oh yeah, and a 3rd person view that doesn't suck monkey balls. And horseback combat! I need more INFORMATION!!!

To be fair though, oblivion is just as boring as Fallout, it's just greener. I think Bethesdas big problem, especially with Oblivion, is that to achieve the quantity the overall quality of dungeons and stuff plummet. Exploring dank cave #400085 with the exact same lego blocks making it up, teh same damn level scaled monsters and the same fucking level scaled loot just isn't that fun after a while. Same goes for Fallout ofc, it's just a less lush landscape. Morrowind on the other hand had all taht shit fixed :)

I actually think FO3 has a much better world. If you put aesthetics aside, the DC Wasteland is packed with more stuff than Oblivion. Oblivion is trees. Lots and lots of trees.

I guess that the colorful and inviting landscape coupled with it's simplicity is what made Oblivion popular cause it really is Bethesdas weakest entry in the series, including fallout as it's basically teh same concept in a different environment.

Anyway, the new engine is good news. Hope we get some shots in the next Game Informer :)

3 years between releases seems like a fairly reasonable time frame though, even perhaps a bit slow by todays standards. Irrational are on the other hand taking their sweet time it seems :)

Three years? It's already been more than four. There's a five year gap between Oblivion and Skyrim.

Yes, but bethesda made Fallout 3 in between so it's not like they've been doing nothing.

I agree with everyone saying Oblivion>>>>Fallout 3...then again I am biased because I love fantasy settings alot.
Fallout 3 was decent imo, but I never got to finish it because I got bored of it pretty fast because of the big wasteland of nothing, and the feeling of the gun movement and shooting was horrible IMO.
Some may like it, some dont.

Not saying I had much fun with Oblivion (I wasent into RPGs years ago until now, might give it a go again on PS3?).
But I think because I didnt like RPGs years ago does have some effect on me of not enjoying it, so considering I changed, maybe I will enjoy it now.

Anyways, Skyrim, I am glad they have a new engine for it, I hope it looks great and up to date with one of the best games out there. There is no excuse for them now.
Hopefully they can get better animators as well for the combat.

Also, the Skyrim music...daaaaaaamn epic! I love the ending choir that plays, really epic.
I wonder if Jeremy Soule is on the elder Scrolls again for this one, Oblivion had amazing music and Jeremy Soule is a great composer when it comes to fantasy orchestras (Guild Wars being another franchise).

PS. The man who talked in the background of the Skyrim trailer reminded me of Yoda hehe
