And just like that there's no reason whatsoever to play Skyrim anymore. Fans are so awesome some times.
I think people look back at Morrowind through tinted specs; I personally don't think it was that great - I even think Oblivion was better - and, on the balance of things, Skyrim is certainly the better game.

Will do that as soon as i finish off some guilds quest :)
I finished it last night. Really cool quest and you get a sweet weapon at the end of it!

blm: no, Morrowind is flawed up the ass. It has the horrible cliff racers, it looks like SHIT, the journal is completely useless and combat is, as per usual, a broken mess. Not to mention a slew of other things that makes the game terrible, but it makes up for it by having the most interesting world of any TES game and proper exploration without that level scaling bullshit. It's old and you can certainly tell when playing it, but if you look past the flaws, much like people tend to do with both oblivion and skyrim, i still think it's their best effort so far. Obviously you can lessen many of the problems somewhat with mods.

Yeah that's fair.

I guess how you view the world is pretty subjective and, although I liked the mysterious, alien nature of Morrowind, I just think Skyrim has a lot more going for it and is generally the more interesting and vibrant. Of course the pretty graphics help. :P

The absence of level scaling would have been appreciated though.

I'm sure it wont take long before we get something like Oscuros overhaul for skyrim though, so long as you are playing it on the PC.

Get the PC version and wait for the mods, that's my only real recommendation :)

Bit off-topic, but how is War in the North? Was gonna buy it on release until it got panned in the reviews.

I remember you were hyped for it :)

Its good, I dont know much of LOTR outside the movies so I am meeting new characters which is nice. Good level varieties and loot, combat is okay it works, very focused on dodge timing to avoid damage which reminds me alot of Ninja Gaiden 1 which is always a plus, and the decapitations was pretty nice. And if you time your block you stun the enemy attack.
Good loot too, alot of it. Nice customizations, some facial changes and alot of equipment and enchanting stuff as well. I am playing as the ranger only but I might give the mage a ago.

Hit reaction is good, they nail it once you do a finishing kill and you continue killing without getting hit, but if you lose that "kill meter" it will go away, unless enemies are weak and you got some nasty good weapon to deal some damage with. But overal its very nice, though some enemies are immune which was the big Uruk-Hai's, not all of them but the ones with two handed weapons.
The hud needs alot of work as well as companion interactivity with the whole equipment and such.
I hear the game is fun during online co-op but I havent tried it, and wont (Xbox Live+pay for me is a no no lol).
I dont like the music, coming from a LOTR movie the music IMO sucks. Its not Skyrim or Lair, but then again the composer is Inon Zur so I really dislike his work. Music sounds like its from Dragon Age, another game were music is meh.

Overal I would say its the best LOTR game I have ever played so far and as a LOTR fan I am happy with it and its not movie-based so thats a plus for me.
Rent it if possible.

Sorry for the long post, but you asked ;)
Ask any specfic thing if you want, but do so on a LOTR thread if you find or PM me :)

I was excited for it, but when my friend who is a BIG LOTR fan told me it was "Clunky, frustrating, tedious.." i decided against it, as our taste is very similar.

I am not seeing the tedious and frustating part, maybe he plays it like a Dynasty Warriors game? Rolling is very important in this game than it is blocking, unless you have a shield. Companions do what you ask them to do automatically, its not as shitty as the companions in Skyrim lol.

Clunky...yeah I can see that, there is some clunkyness to it, but its not THAT big of an issue from other games I played. Its manageable.

Ah well.

Not that I'm excusing the terribleness of Skyrim's companion mechanic but, to be fair, in War in the North your companions are kind of a staple feature of the game.

Anyway, not that I want to stay off topic, but I do think WitN looks decent. If not for Skyrim I may have bitten the bullet and gone for it, but my fantasy needs have been satisfied for now - I still await for an Elder Scrolls-styled Lord of the rings game though. :(

I could get it for Christmas, but I don't really want too many games for the holidays and Arkham City awaits.

Well he has neve been wrong yet, as i said he and i have very similar taste, so if he is finding it frustrating and tedious as a big fan of the lore, no doubt i will also. When i have some free cycles next year? will give it a rent (as he has already traded it in).

Yeah definitely. I mean the companions in LOTR is suppose to be good because they are with you from start to end, unlike Skyrim its not by force or anything.
If you are hooked on Skyrim, which you obviously are, smart decision by not getting the game, finish it and just get it when you have the time and space.

Yeah me and one of my friends is exactly like that. We pretty much specialize in action games and we share i would say 99% same opinion on titles, though I have more wide genre likes while he isnt. But ah well.

The main one does; it's when you recover the Elder Scroll.

Anyway, just fought Alduin at the Throat of the World. Was a bit worried that that was going to be it for the main quest but luckily it wasn't. :P

Awesome.. new patch out on the PC already! They fixed the new bugs the last patch introduced:
General stability improvements
Optimize performance for Core 2 Duo CPUs
Fixed Radiant Story incorrectly filling certain roles
Fixed magic resistances not calculating properly
Fixed issue with placing books on bookshelves inside player purchased homes
Fixed dragon animation issues with saving and loading
Fixed Y-look input to scale correctly with framerate
Thank goodness.

Aren't you still playing a broken game with broken magic resistances? Man... this game just presses all the right buttons.

I'm not even sure why they're bothering to fix it.

Huh? My game isn't broken... the magic resistance thing hasn't affected my version - don't know why - and I haven't had any other problems (although I saw a backward dragon on my playthrough yesterday, made me chuckle).

I can't pretend I have these problems if I don't actually have them.
