I wanted to be impressed, I really did. I just felt so detached from the whole experience.

Great looking game though, not the best but certainly good enough.

I assume that was aimed at me for voicing dissent? :P

Weak gunplay, lack of momentum/weight of character, retarded enemies, motion control grenades, main character is a dick. The linearity of the demo didn't help either.

I think the fact that it has been hyped and hyped for so long made me expect something more substantial, in the end it felt like a prettier mashed up version of games I have played before.

to put it simple the game does not appeal to you

weak gunplay? did you expect COD4 type intensity, UT speed

lack of momentum/weight of character? i haven't played it. but his not the type who carries heavy armor, giganting weapons (aka fenix and all those muscuar characters)

retarded enemies? from the vid, they are defensive, offesive tactical....beside you can always adjust difficult settings meet you needs)

motion control grenades ???? what do you mean

main character is a dick. you got issues, need to sort them out

The linearity of the demo didn't help either. its the beginning things are usually straight forward, i'm sure it gets little complex

Wait you haven't played it and you are questioning me? :P

I expected recoil and impact from the bullets.

Not having armour or muscles doesn't make you weigh nothing.

Enemies had two settings from what I saw, one would head to your position, the other would stay back and take potshots or lob grenades.

Grenades are thrown using a ridiculous tilting of the SIXAXIS pad, but you can't tilt left and right, just up and down. It makes no sense and is not needed.

My only issues are with a main character that is obviously supposed to be "funny" but comes off as stupid and arrogant.

Of course the game may open up later on but I've seen no evidence of that at all to be honest.

can't you adjust in the menue?

I expected recoil and impact from the bullets...... expectation lead to dissapoitment

My only issues are with a main character that is obviously supposed to be "funny" but comes off as stupid and arrogant........son of great explorer what do u expect .. what if thats how he ment to be.

Not having armour or muscles doesn't make you weigh nothing...................he's supposed to be flexible with a the tree climbing and stuff

the bottom line is this game isn't as bad or failure some are making it out to be.

Even gymnasts make impact and have to control momentum.

You really need to play the game yourself, then come back and debate with me. I'm not making it out to be a failure, far from it. It just isn't the amazing, innovative, PS3-saving title it was portrayed as being by some people.

gmulis no need to be so defensive, why can someone not like a game ? (especially considering he has played the demo)

I am still waiting for it to download and I am expecting not to like it for many of the reasons slabs has listed above, it seems to come off like a jack of all trades to me.

Nathan isnt suppose to be this hard ass motherf****r set up in jungle.
He is just an ordinary guy who has a goal in his life, to find this secret about francis or whatever his name was.

It is much better than having some guy saying curse word all the time, or being a hard ass, feels so fake.

He has this normal, funny, sometimes sarcastic, which is good.

I say the PS3 fans shouldnt even care who say what, if they like this game , more power to them.

Its their money their choices to make what they want to get.

The recoil is definitely there, especially the AK one, that is just a monster, but we all know what AK has for recoil.

I never used the sixaxis for the grenades, but for the catwalks I did.

Besides, he isn't suppose to be this ex-gymnast now ordinary guy. He is just an ordinary guy who knows about climbing one or two.
He knows how to grab on to ledges like any other young adult person out there.

One thing that I am confused about is...how the bloody hell did he learn how to shoot? carry this cross shoulder weapon holster...etc.

He seems a bit weapon specialist for a average guy.
Maybe they will explain it in the story?

Sath, Nathan is not an ordinary guy, he is bulletproof. And I think it's easier to find an ordinary guy who knows a lot about weapons like Drake rather than an ordinary guy he is a great acrobat.

Its actually not too bad, didn't play it for long as i died and I got bored, not my sort of game really, but I could see why people might like it.

Graphics weren't as great as some people are saying either.

I have to agree. It needs a LOT of cleaning up. The animations are floaty and weightless, and the controls - BECAUSE they ape Gears of War - are exposed as extremely fiddly an inaccurate in comparison. A comparison it really brought on itself.

I was REALLY looking forward to this game (anyone on this forum can testify I'm sure) but this demo is hugely underwhelming. It would've been alright if anything felt 100% solid, but the platforming doesn, the cover system doesn't and the shooting doesn't. A tremendous pity.

I didn't agree when people said this was like Tomb Raider before, but even if I endulge that comparison I think this has real problems stacking up to Lara's two latest.

I'm gonna go cry for a bit now. Cry and hope this demo was put together a long time ago and that the finished product is a lot more polished, because what's fundamentally here, underneath, is pretty great. Always was and still is. :|

Thank God that you people are agreeing about the fact that the demo is a bit disappointing. said that on the official thread and ended up being called a fanboy ..... I honestly dont understand why some people cant accept criticism, It doesnt mean at all that the game is rubbish.

Here's my post from the video comments. I really wish those posts were integrated with these threads.

::

I'm not sure this game wins in any single area. Mind you, this is like the earliest Demo of the game I'm aware of.

To get the graphics out of the way, they look good - the animation was not as smooth as I expected but there's tons of it - the enemies animate really well in and around cover. It's just doesn't give me that "wow that's fluid animation" kind of reaction.

Then again, I noticed the trees swaying, but the also didn't look so hot and the foliage doesn't look interactive and some of the grass doesn't look dense enough.

Textures look pretty good but it's all repetitive so I can't feel too impressed. Shadows look good but I feel they could have done MUCH more with the lighting given the setting.

Grenade and barrel explosion could look a lot better too.

Over all I think it looks - average to above average, but definitely not "great".

About the sound - it sounded good. They even got the doppler affect (if that's what you call it) of gunshots over variable distance. The same as Halo 3 uses, so 3D sound is in full effect here.

Gameplay wise I was expecting more depth in the exploration platforming side of things. I was expecting this game to champion the return of the action adventure platformer but the demo disappointed me by falling back on generic run & gun gameplay with small stints of rudimentary platforming.

The sixaxis integration made me want to vomit after the lair fiasco - definitely the low point of the demo for me. I really hope you can turn that stuff off for throwing grenades and for balancing on logs. It would be MUCH better if instead of sixaxis you had variable rumble to tell you if you were going to fall and just the analog stick for balancing.

There were some other annoyances, like shooting behind cover not being tied to the camera - a reticle for targeting from behind cover would definitely improve the fun of the shooting aspect - which was basically most of the gameplay time in the demo.

Overall I think my outlook for this game has definitely gone down after the demo - but none of the gameplay concerns I have are things that can't be addressed.

Here's hoping for an updated demo that shows that the game isn't mostly run & gun gameplay.

Whoa, intervention time?

I think the sixaxis control would have been good for something like a hang gliding scene or for a motorcycle.

I think if anything the animations are a bit too smooth. The animations themselves are quite nice, there's lots of nice little touches but everything has too even a motion to it. They could definitely use some more slow ins and slow outs which would make it pop more - in a good way. Other than that i didnt really have any problems with the demo, i enjoyed it, enemies are pretty smart if a bit cut and paste in terms of variety. But overall i think it will be a good game. Though honestly, this month belongs to Mass Effect and Assassins Creed.

I think you're pretty much right on the money there in regards to Uncharted's animations. It's what in turn makes it feel weightless and floaty. If you press the stick gently forward (or to the side, easier to see that way) Nathan actually starts floating forward before he's even started moving. That's INCREDIBLY sloppy of Naughty Dog, and while it was something I noticed already in videos long ago, I fully expected it to be fixed eventually.

I think for me it's extra disappointing though because I have been looking forward to this A LOT. It's not that I'm a victim of hype or anything, I just knew that the subject matter of treasure hunting and adventure is 100% my kind of thing, and that Naughty Dog hasn't really done a rubbish game ever. I'm crossing my fingers that my annoyances with the demo are gone from the final game.

This month is pretty insane as it is yeah, but I've decided to buy what I feel like playing... which sort of sounds obvious.. but that's not how I always go about these things. :D Oh and Galaxy has priority over pretty much... living and eating and stuff like that of course. There's plenty to play even if Uncharted doesn't turn out great, but I'm honestly running out of titles I wanna buy for the PS3. :(

The only thing I dont like about the objects in Uncharted is the grass and leaves, they tend to look bland sometimes, but whatever :)

But everything else is top notch for me.
Graphics are very great, animations top notch and smooth, dialogue is awesome and realistic, shooting is very simple to pick up and play (which is what they are aiming for).

Overall, very great title to pick up if you are into this type of games and aint so damn hardcore gamer and picky about everything.

One thing I hate about gaming industry is the hardcore gamers, they always are picking the smallest details in a game to make a big thing about it.

While regular average gamer want to have fun for a few minutes or hours when they pick up the controller and play and then go do something else until the next gaming experience, that is what I like.

Kind of a shame how the gamers have evolved these years, from fanboying to this type of thing.
