I can see quality doesn't really matter to you, there's just a feeling. Either a good or a bad feeling. I miss that a lot about myself, it's really not something I've decided to let go of. Thing is though, if everyone was that easy to please we wouldn't have great games at all. Those hardcore gamers you hate are keeping the industry in check, because there's always the casual bunch ready to pick up the next Spiderman 3 game.
Thats why we are individuals with different mindset, and mine is very different.
If the gameplay is fun and it is keeping my happy and not pissed off (Killzone PS2 for example) then its someting good.
But then I always look at the setting, theme, music, characters, art style...if it is something I can relate to, something I like about those, I like it then.
For example, I like how the gameplay of COD4 seems, the intesnity and all that, but its modern warfare, and I am not a fan of it.
I am all about sci-fi twists to pure sci-fi such as Mass Effect, or these type of ancient ones like Assassins Creed or fantasy type games like NG, DMC, God of War..etc.
But in short, I have played hundreds of games, and there have been games I just said "damn its boring, even if it had sci-fi to it or whatever...the gameplay wasent there.
I guess I am considering myself fortunate that I have a different good mindset about games, I know what I am looking forward into a game and that is what matters for me.
I said my piece, so I wont go into this type of thing again, doesn't have anything to do with Uncharted.

Perhaps more often than people who spend less time playing games overall, because I can imagine it's less attractive to buy a "lesser" game if you only have time for the ones of outmost quality. I'm lucky in that I like virtually every genre (which is also problematic when we're bombarded with great games) but it also means that I split games into categories with different expectations.
I played Advent Rising a couple of years ago in my oft-mentioned (by me) rubbish games experiment, and I actually finished that game. I mean it was a glitchy, buggy, twitchy mess, often stuttering in both sound and visuals, but I really enjoyed it. Going into something like Uncharted with the same mindset I would obviously be BLOWN AWAAAAY by it, but other expectations are there.
It's really like seeing the tits of the girl you've been dating for a long time.. if she's been using those fake bra cushion thingies you're bound to be deeply disappointed, whereas small tits can be completely alright otherwise.
With Uncharted there's been some bra cushioning for me, and the stuff it flashed in the demo was pretty underwhelming. Sorry if that makes me a part of the industry you hate.
But yeah, back on topic! Woo, airplanes! Jungles! Arr - pirates!
Like I said, we all have our taste in games, of how we see the game we play.
I am just happy I am not the type of guy who goes on reviews or what others say about a certain game.
I like the way I am about how I see my games, pays off really.

couple things i dont like much are the sixaxis intergration, it works, and it works well, but i just dont like having to think about controlling this virtual guy and the buttons that control him....while remembering i have to wobble my controller about when i throw a grenade....
and secondly animations, while i think 95% is flawless, theres are times when he will say, climb on a log, where there is an uncomfortable slide where he floats along while getting into place to loop his next animation. it looks strange, and even more obvious when the rest of the animation looks fantastic.
overall i love it. and will be buying it. its tomb raider meets gears of war, without feeling like a rip off which you've played a thousand times
and quite importantly for me. its an action game that isnt various shades of grey or brown (gears of war, resistance, killzone etc etc) its a pretty refreshing change.

I definitely like the game. I finished the demo, and everything is very dynamic and smooth and fun to do. It has minor PDZ style niggles with its cover system and shooting, and the animation like noted has its awkwardness. When it's at the top of its game though, it looks fantastic and is a lot of fun.
I'll prolly pick this up regardless of what I initially felt. It's just too damn close to being exactly what I've been longing for; a real pulp adventure game with that awesome, tongue in cheek adventure feel and charm. The new trailer, which I only just saw, pretty much sealed the deal for me.
Awkward as the animation occasionally is, it really does deserve being applauded aswell because there are a lot of cool touches that are unlike anything previously seen. I mean while we're at it comparing it to Gears of War; Marcus and his chaps barely feel alive when put next to this. Nathan sprints, ducks, weaves and turns away when bullets start flying, and so do enemies. You can actually "blind fire" to have them duck away only to pop out and shoot them in the face proper while they're busy recovering.
Just running around, Nathan reacts differently to different surfaces, which really gives everything an organic feel as opposed to being a flat surface. It makes the game pop out and come alive in a pretty special way. You really feel like he's traversing these surroundings, and somehow that adds a layer of credibility to him as an adventurer... if that makes... any sense at all.
So yeah, cautiously hopeful for them fixing what I think is wrong with it, and even if they don't, I'll prolly have a good time with what's here anyway.

then theres the enemies, who have a pretty big range of animations...ducking out of the way of your fire, lying down to shoot while prone. they really add to the game imo.
but as i was saying, its the little things that i've only just noticed like the way his shirt creases differently as he runs/walks making his shirt look like a shirt, not a textured solid model.
and i really love the texturing, not so much the resolution (which is high anyway) but more the surfaces they seem to have nailed. a wall might be shiney due to the moisture (its a rainforest afterall) but then the moss growning on it will have a mat finish...it all adds to the belivability. i dont think any game really matches this one at least in terms of detail. both texturally, but mainly the little effects.
it has a few jarring moments with the animations but thats mainly down to the fact the overall animations are second to non atm. it makes issues stand out more then a game like tomb raider, becasue they're so good 95% of the time.
and while it 'technically' might not have a better cover system as gears or a better platforming mechanic as something like tomb raider or prince of persia, i think on the whole its better then both of those becasue of all the other components of the game, from the graphics, art style, animation, voice action, setting, colour pallet etc etc. but thats just me, as i said in my previous post, different strokes.

Anyway, sometimes you got to make the hard decisions. Spend $200-300 on clothes so I can look nice and gets the compliments, or spend $400 on a Dreamcas...I mean PS3. I'm just plagued with these types of things.

I think Gears of War is pretty easily one of the best action games there are, but this - like you point out - does more than that.
I don't agree that it's automatically better because it does more though. I don't think that's how games should work. If they go to a point with a certain mechanic, and you feel that something is MISSING - be it because it's stolen from another game or otherwise - then they've messed up. I can't help but feel that there are things WRONG with the shooting here, and I can't really rationalise that with the way it does other things.
The subject matter goes a long way in covering those issues up though, and still leaves me enthusiastic about playing the game. I hope it's long and paced well. I certainly don't hope every room is full of pirates to mow down, because some of the best moments in the demo come from just jogging around the surroundings, looking for a way to proceed. The jungle is so lush and the setting overall offers great opportunity to have things be suitably mysterious and atmospheric. I hope there aren't crazy pirates around every corner, prepared to ruin that.
