VF5 for PS3 sales bombs in Japan

Well I wasn't the one who quoted 37% was I ?

And VF5 isn't that main stream, its sucessful but hardly a killer app and the Japanese have already been playing this game in the Arcades for over a year.

So it's hardly the killer title people are claiming it to be.
Still hope it sells atleast as much as VF4 did eventually and it should being multiplatform. Whatever gets VF into the hands of gamers is fine by me. Arcade, console, whatever--just so long as people keep playing it.

I really hope it does well also, as Sega have actually put a lot of effort into this game.

And it's not often i find myself saying that :P

I've been a pretty huge Sega fan my whole life, and I'll admit they make a lot of relatively crappy software these days, but their arcade developers have generally stayed pretty strong over the years. Virtua Fighter has loads of work put into it, so did VF4. Sega still cares about their arcade audience--perhaps another poor business decision given the current state of arcades in most parts of the world, but I sitll love them for it.

No. But the 37% next to sales doesn't say 37% of what. Your post seemed to put some emphasis on the 37% number ;)

On the fan forums a lot of PS3 fans have been argueing just that. I gave my reasons WHY I don't think it is that important, but there is no denying that there is a lack of unique software on the PS3 at this point and you would expect a killer app (much hyped, sells well, well rated) to stand out and SHINE on a platform with little competition. Past VFs sold very well in Japan, so downplaying it doesn't do much either.

First month sales should rival GRAW, Oblivion, etc from this time last year. Similar fan base sizes (if not bigger for VF) and similar time frame and platform competition and quality matrix. Both of the games trended for the 1m range in their first 6 months, which based on past VFs should do likewise.

I wonder what the development costs for VF5 are? Also, I wish Sega showed some VF love to the rest of the world, as they do in Japan. They got VF4, VF4 Evo, VF4 FT and VF5(neither have been released outside of Japan arcades).

No point releasing something that doesn't do well outside Japan.

I haven't been in an Arcade in about 2 years..

Arcades are dead in the west, besides gambling maybe :S

The previous arcade installments of VF in America did well. They just stopped releasing them, but whatever, we're getting VF5 in the coming weeks. So I'm happy.

But it is true, that arcade gaming as a whole isn't as popular as it was before, in America that is.

Mostly, there are a few arcades here and there. But for the most part you're right. It's a damn shame. There's an amazing arcade in NYC (though I haven't been there for a while)--it looks like a dump--a hole in the wall more or less, but they've got great games and really good competition. Never carried VF4 or VF5 though, so far as I know. Which is a bummer, I would have gone to that place a lot over the last year had they picked it up.

Yes, it is. And you know what game they don't play?

Virtua Fighter :(

This is partially Sega's fault, for not doing the game (and the arcade cabinets) more justice in the US, but whatever.

A lot of great American players play at places like Chinatown Fair (CTF) in NYC, which is hardly anything like the extravagant arcades of Japan. It just goes to show though, a dedicated gamer just needs a machine to play on and a place to do it. No frills required.

Not that I wouldn't want an awesome Japanese arcade right down the street.

This is a good way to take this discussion downhill fast. It's an easy question to answer--but not without creating conflict. Let's not take this road publically.
The moderators here are the worst I have ever seen. I have never seen moderators preform as bad as they do then here. But I guess that is what I like about these forums. I dont know why.

I'm sure this is having a lasting effect on VF5 sales in Japan. If you have a problem with the moderation here, there are better ways to go about it than derailing this thread; Most posts in this topic have actually been on topic.

Well that is funny. Derailing good threads is your specialty, now isnt it. Make threads worse, oh wait that fail under your specialty again. Acting like a baby at times when it is unneeded, wait let me guess again. That fails under your control.

Continuation of this thread will lest have effect on VF5 sales but hey you said that it would so it must. Damn are you the all knowing moderator, can anyone compete with you.

I'm not sure exactly what I did to tick you off today, but like I said, this isn't the place for it. I'm just trying to keep this thread from devolving into an argument over personal BS. I only even entered this thread in the interest of keeping it on topic.

I'm not letting this thread turn into a discussion about other peoples posting habits.

But lets get back to Japan and Virtua Fighters poor showing.

The 37% refers to the percentage of the initial shipment which has sold I think.
