GSY Video PS5 Xbox Series X PC PS4 Xbox One Switch

It's been a year since Baldo's release and we wanted to go back to the game to see how the developers improved it to please a wider audience. We recorded a brand new Gamersyde Offline video in which we talk about player feedback and what it allowed Naps Team to do as well as all the new content that has been released for free. We've also listed everything that has changed since September 2021 in case you're interested in checking out the game.

Baldo is clearly a game that ideally needed a bit more time to be fully ready to ship. Even though the few hours we were able to play before its launch didn't alarm us especially outside of some design choices, sadly many people have encountered game breaking bugs since the end of last week, us included (on Switch and Xbox One). We've been rather lucky on PC after 14 hours but it doesn't mean we haven't had our share of frustrations regularly. Still, Baldo oozes with passion and that what makes us keep playing. True, sometimes the game feels more like an old adventure game from the 80s (with hard puzzles to solve and huge amounts of time running in circles in search of a solution or the right place to go) than a Zelda-lookalike, but there is definitely something about it that always takes us back into its world. Right now, Naps Team's title needs updates, but according to them, all the bugs that have been reported have been fixed and the patches are just waiting for approval. A hotfix has just been posted on PC because Steam is more flexible than Nintendo, Xbox or Apple. Playstation owners should get the next patch sooner than the others from what we've been told. If you're still wondering whether or not to purchase the game, we think it's safer to wait until the patches are made available to see if they do fix everything. The devs have also said they're listening to the community in order to improve the overall experience and make it a bit less unforgiving. Until that happens, you can check the following video we captured on PC after forcing V-Sync in the Nvidia control panel to override the 30 fps cap. An option should soon be added to the menu on PC, along with the possibility to choose the game's resolution (something which is disappointingly missing for now), but the devs are focused on what's more urgent at the moment. It's been a difficult launch for sure, but Baldo is for us a bit of a diamond in the rough, so we hope the team will keep working hard to give it the final polish it deserves.

Baldo took its time to show up but it's finally out on Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PC and iOS devices. We have been playing the game for a few days now but we haven't had the time to play enough of it to give you a review on launch day. We still wanted to share our thoughts about the very beginning of the adventure so we recorded a commented video in English. Note that we've based our thoughts on the PS4 and Xbox One versions running on PS5 and Xbox Series X with backward compatibility (there is no specific PS5/Xbox Series support just yet). We were sent a PC code yesterday evening so we only had time to play the beginning of the adventure. For now the game is also locked at 30 fps on PC (but the devs promised that they will update it asap) but it looks sharper than on consoles as there is far less shimmering in the grass. Other than that and the resolution, the game obviously looks similar to the other versions we've seen. Last but not least, we could play on Switch just a few minutes after midnight and we must say the game looks very good in handheld mode and is quite pleasant to play this way (Joy-Con aside, but that's because we're not big fans as you may know). Inside, you will find a commented video with our first impressions in English but also some gameplay footage of the game on all the other systems (except for iOS), so enjoy!

Trailer PC PS4 Xbox One Switch

Naps Team was kind enough to send us the first trailer for their upcoming game Baldo. The project originally started as a GBA title and it was even completed just before the arrival of the Nintendo DS. Sadly, it was never released despite the fact that Nintendo really liked what the developers had done, because Naps Team's publisher wanted to focus on the new handheld. As the team moved on to work on other games, they never truly had time to find the time to go back to the world of Baldo. Until now that is. Though there is still no official release date for this new version of the game developed in 3D with the Unity engine, the (2!) Italian developers is ready to share some footage, which means we should hear from their title more and more. The game is planned on all systems, PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One.
