Xbox 360 PS3

Codemasters finally released some new images (or should I say target renders?) of Colin McRae: Dirt, to be released one of these days on PS3 and Xbox 360. If the final game is as beautiful as this, wow :)

Definetly looks a bit touched up, but hey, nothing to complain about as of yet. Looks pristine.

Considering how good the Ralli Sport series looked on the original Xbox it would not surprise me if these "target renders" became a reality...sooner than later.

I think it just comes down to the coding and engine creation skills of Codemasters. If we don't see this with Colin Mc Rae : Dirt we will with Ralli Sport 3.

Yeah I know, but they are still not really in-engine shots.

Looks nice, but I think history tells us that racing games rarely look like the screens devs put out.

Only cars are really ingame-graphics? lol. The cars look crapy in comparison with ground textures and particle-effects.

Whatever happened to Rallisport Challenge, I was looking forward to Rallisport 3 Xbox 360 style?

Do you know for sure they are target renders, or just high res supersampled shots al-la test drive unlimited?

The first shot shows obvious depth of field bleeding, which you won't get in a raytraced target render. This is very common perforamnce/quality tradeoff most games make (in fact, all games doing DOF so far do this to some extent, only exception is FightNight which uses a lower detail transparent extruded hull on the characters to reduce the effect).

Personally I think they very well could be genuine, but reduced size ultra high resolution images.

Looks in-game by looking at the textures on the ground, it wouldn't suprise me if it were in-game code masters are excellent programers. If so this looks better than the CG demo of Moter Storm for the ps3 which is quite a feat though I doubt it would have the animation.

Since we probably will never see a Rallisport 3 (MS sold the developer Dice to EA), I hope this game can replace it.. These screenies look awesome, especially the 1st screenies with the special offroad cars got me excited.. Online MP with this should be a blast!

If the final game ends up like this, it'll beat PGR3 and Forza Motorsport 2 for sure!

Wow. Very good looking. of course, would be better to have some gameplay vids to judge by.

I've still got my fingers crossed for RalliSport Challenge 3. I still get moments on RSC2 where i'm like: 'wow! this is on xbox?'

Finally they understood to name their game right. DIRT. The Colin McCrap games are absolute DIRT.

Compared to real rally simulators like Richard Burns Rally (may the man rest in peace), Colin is wafer thin paper, has absolutely no driving model and is just pure DIRT. Even the predecessor of RalliSport, Rally Masters by DICE buries anything Codemasters has ever thrown together (with a 6month sequel cycle).

I'm always looking for the next best racer but Codemasters has failed me and thousands of other true rally fans umpteen times, they will do it again.

RBR, Forza, GTR (coming to 360!) all the way, BABY.

Bullet time me all you want, I have spoken.

Seriously why can't there be an official stamp that is an industry standard. I could be either:

Actual in-game screenshot
Pre-rendered image
Rendered image using in-game models

That would eliminate all the usual 'is it real, no it's not in-game rendered real-time' differences of opinion that are ultimately fruitless once the game is released. Why do the developers always keep us guessing?
