Lookin good, love all the play with light and shadow. Only one effect looked a bit funny, the smokey effect in the direction the sentry gun looked.
Looks promising though.

Dark repetitive corridors on a generic spaceship with generic enemies and generic marine tough guys...not exactly 'feeling' this one.

Oh, I forgot to mention the generic artstyle. Seriously, it's a fucking sci-fi shooter. Therefor, they can make the game look like however the hell they want...and this is all they can come up with? Laughable at best.

I'm getting a bad feeling about this one. It has Doom3 written all over it. Dark corridors and guns in close quarters in todays fps don't work. Doom3 sucked because of this. The Predator looked cool from what I saw in the trailer though.

it's actually a sci-fi shooter based on a well known and established FRANCHISE. aliens and predator have a distinct look about the films, the last thing they're going to do is alter that. this perfectly mimics the clostrophobic nature of the films, if you didnt like the films, fine, but dont take it out on the game with your rediculous expectations....seriously, what else is a game set in the aliens universe going to look like? wizard of oz?

AVP is one of only two games to ever make me jump (the other being deadspace). It was so awesome all those years ago on the PC hearing the beeping of your scanner getting ever more irratic.

AVP2 i didnt enjoy that much..mainly because the graphics engine used didnt lend itself to the AVP atmosphere well enough.

This one looks like it could nail the originals thrills.. i really hope they take advantage of this generations tech and really use shadows and lighting to play up the scares.. rather than an endless stream of aliens thrown at you.

What else is an alien universe going to look like? Any bloody thing they want, that's what.

Not the same repetitive environments we've been seeing in every single sci-fi shooter to date. Just because the game's based on a movie/established franchise, doesn't mean they can't implement some...imagination.

Erm...what? Have you been living under a rock for whatever time you've spent on this earth? It's a game based off two of sci-fi/horror's most renowned franchises in the film industry. Of course they are going to stick to a certain style because everything you just described is basically the films from top-to-bottom. What were you expecting? AK-47's, bad ass stereotype marines with nasty bearded, scarf-wearing men and dusty brown landscapes? Oh, sorry - that's CoD 4. Generic, right?

Disagree. Doom 3 got a bad rep for some odd reason, but it wasn't actually that bad of a game. It did what it says on the tin, which is basically make you shit your trousers. Job done.

but thats exactly what it means. what you want is completely unrealistic. sure they COULD change everything that makes aliens recognisable to the masses, but then you're alienating the millions of fans for the sake of a few like yourself who just want something different, why do that? why shit all over a good thing?

You are making no sense, you are comparing a game based on real life characteristics with a game based on fiction where there's a little (*just a little*) bit more room for imagination...so I'm sorry, but your COD4 reference fails badly.

@ KORNdog: Well, to be honest...I'm a little puzzled this is what people actually want?! But hey, that's fine. Enjoy your generic looking shooter by all means. ;)

I don't care if they were the first with that style or not, and I don't care if it's based on a franchise or not. I look at this game, and I see the same sci-fi shooter I've been seeing for the last 15 years...other than that... /care

Edit @ Plumbdrumb: Hey, I'm just being polite here and responding to their posts. No need to get like that...Either way...I'm done here anyway, not my kind of game indeed and I'll leave it at that. Next time I'll just leave a: "Yawn" comment or something if that's more desireable...

I'm sure there are other games you can play.

I hope this thread doesn't go all whack-a-doodle like the Final Fantasy one.

such a shame you have very little taste.

and dingleberry's example was perfect since it brings up the idea of being faithfull to a particular style. where cod is faithfull to REALITY, an aliens game has to be faithfull to the ALIENS universe and films. pretty easy to understand

I have little taste, or I have bad taste? Please elaborate...or actually don't... ;)

As for your second paragraph, you know...the one that wasn't a cheap personal attack: I suppose that's one way of looking at it, although not quite the same thing...but I'll accept it. ;)

Anyway, now I'm out for good! :P

Also, lighten up...it's just a game.

The thing is it is not an alien universe, it is THE alien universe. The verse is already set the way its supposed to look. The dark athena looked similar to the necromonger ships for Riddick. Its just continuation.

Well, we can all pretty much see that Jato's opinions can be thrown onto the null and void pile.
Being set in a sci-fi universe/fantasy doesnt mean they should just shit all over what the game is actually based upon. They cant just add giant glowing teddybears, gumdrop rainbows and change the combat system into some kind of dance off. The alien universe is very much set in stone, its about darkness and claustraphobia, its about industrialism and the nature of mankind to overuse the space it has been given. Alien 3 and 4 tried to change that and failed miserably, AVP movies even moreso.
And the enemies being "generic" ? These are the iconic, original aliens for christ sake, what do you want them to do? Change them into leprachauns?

Im sorry, but spurting the words generic at everything is pitiful, its like you were trying to jump on the cool train and got it all wrong.

I'm with you on this one Jato. I've always loved the aliens movies, and this is a game I actually look forward. But you're absolutely right, they could go anywhere, style wise, inside the established Universe of the series. This looks, Doom meets Gears meets Riddick. Maybe it's mostly the fault of the Unreal engine which i can assume they are using? Anyways, the trailer is well done and if the action and story is good, one can forget the generic style...
