Developer Diary PC Xbox 360 PS3

Ubisoft sent us tonight this new video of Assassin's Creed 2 showing some of the weapons that Eizo will be able to use for his assassinations. Weapons of course coming from his pal Leonardo da Vinci.

Adding more stuff won't make it a better game. This is definitely being done by Ubisoft's C team, while their A team is on Conviction.

Ah, I can't stand it when developers think more is better. Quality over quantity

The first game had a lot of good ideas, but they didn't know how to implement those ideas to keep the game going for long at all. The first two hours of the game was incredible fun, after that it just got to be more and more of a chore.

If this game gets really good reviews I'll check it out, but like many, I just don't have much hope in them being able to turn this series around that much from the first game.

Visually it's stunning, almost on par with uncharted 2. But graphics don't make a game good, after two hours of Crysis i stopped paying attention to the graphics and started getting bored with the gameplay.

Hope this doesn't fall under the same category.

Can't blame them considering every time a game clocks in at under 40 hours long the internet explodes with childlike rage.

Patrice Desilets is one of the best designers in the business IMO.

Where? I hardly ever see that. Anytime a game is 15hr+ long it's pretty much in the clear. It's all these 6 to 10 hr games that are catching flack at times for it, and rightfully so imo.

I understand that they are showing all the differences between the first game and the additions. But they are giving too much away now.
Can you blame them? Seriously. Look at the rest of the comments this thread . . . and pretty much every other AC2 thread across the internet.

Over the last couple of months, Ubisoft has shown off an amazing array of new being added to the sequel that addresses every issue with the original and then some. Yet no matter how much of all this new that Ubisoft shows off, they still cannot convince a cynical, internet gaming community that AC2 is any better than it's predecessor . . . despite it clearly addressing every issue of the original.

Show off too much? The only way some people are going to be convinced that AC2 is x10 the game that was AC is . . . wait a minute. This is the internet. There is no convincing the internet the world is round once the internet has gotten it into it's head that the world is flat.

Considering that everyone who claims to have hated the first game, cited their reason for hating it, was a lack of variety, conventional wisdom would suggest that for the sequel, more does = better.

Fortunately, there is a lot more more going into AC2, than just more weapons. AC2 represents and order of magnitude more variety going into it than AC1.

dissapointingly, i agree. they're definately moving in the right direction, but it still seems like an incredibly half assed sequel. animations remain the same, core gameplay is a copy/paste affair with little to no improvements (wow, the devs can now place 2 guards close together thanks to the twin hidden blades...so awesome.lol) and despite the random underground sections which will obviously increase the games CONTENT compared to the first game. it's the GAMEPLAY itself that needs improvements in additon to more stuff to do, and so far i'm not seeing it.

freeswag is right when he says ubi have created a game that is x10 the game AC was, but sadly they have completely ignored the thing that needed the most fixing...the gameplay. no matter how much "stuff" you add to an average game, it will still remain average.

so yes, the game has more weapons, but the combat remains relatively unchanged i.e piss easy and shallow,
yes, the game has additional content in it's underground playgrounds, but the gamplay remains the same, ie, boring and repetative.
yes, the game has new, larger cities and locations to explore, but they are still "copy/paste" cites that are dead and uninteresting to explore.

it's one thing to add more content, it's another to make a better game. and i'm simply not sold on the possibility ubisoft may have achieved the latter. becasue from what they've shown thus far, it's just more content without adressing the fundamental flaws. they're esentially polishing a turd the way they're going about it so far.
