GSY Video PC PS4 Xbox One

Before Anthem, Mass Effect: Andromeda crashed pretty violently in the EA galaxy and the several updates which followed its release barely managed to ease the fans' anger. We still wanted to return to the game in order to show it to you in HDR as its landscapes still look very good today, but we were disappointed to see that the technical issues we encountered with our GTX 1080 back then are still there 3 years later. It means that cutscenes and dialogue sequences drop frames now just like they did at the time and our RTX 2080 Ti made no difference. To make matters worse, it's not even always capable of maintaining a smooth framerate during gameplay when playing in 4K with a 75% resolution scale... Anyway, the 2 videos we recorded are at least pleasant to watch if that's any consolation.

there is no consolation for a Mass Effect fan. Especially for ME OG purists that evangelize the first and utter hated the more like uncharted/less like kotor take for the Mass Effect sequel that killed any of the small "4X" and galaxy exploration of the original... and was highly regarded, being the way it was.

the place were the money was changed, i guess.

Mass Effect: Andromeda ran very well for me at the time, I played it after all the patches and EA announced it wouldn't support the game any longer. Which if you compare EA to Ubisoft, which supports all of their games no matter how bad they get - i.e. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, it just shows how soulless of a company EA is.

As a really big fan of the original Trilogy, mostly Mass Effect 1 and 2, I really liked Mass Effect: Andromeda, it was a good game bogged down by boring and generic open-world design that was badly designed and executed. Even though the writing was really bad sometimes, the story was very good and did set up exciting potential outcomes for great DLCs and a great trilogy.

What is most sad about this whole affair is that according with Jason Schreier's Kotaku article, the developers seemed to have learned from their mistakes and were very eager to correct them in a sequel, which if it had gone according with plan, had the potential to be a much, much better developed game that wouldn't have suffered in development hell like Andromeda did.

Therefore, we could have gotten amazing Mass Effect: Andromeda 2 and 3 with a great lore with many new alien races, as well as all of the ones from the original trilogy. Unfortunately, that's most likely never going to happen and every time I think about it, it just makes me sad at all the wasted potential.

The same goes for Sleeping Dogs... if they had just made Sleeping Dogs 2 instead of that horrible MMO that no one wanted and was clear it would fail from the get go, we would have gotten Sleeping Dogs 2 and 3 by now. And since they wouldn't be using an adaptation of a True Crime's game code that was also stuck in development hell and was even cancelled.

The potential of a Sleeping Dogs made from scratch with its own code, identity and the experience of what worked and what didn't in the first game, while expanding them, making them better and adding new things would make for a truly great game, but we will most likely never know. One of the saddest things in life is wasted potential.
