WARNER BROS. INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES
BATMAN™: ARKHAM KNIGHT

Epic Finale to Rocksteady Studios’ Critically-Acclaimed Videogame Series
Introduces Drivable Batmobile and Fully-Realized Gotham City

Burbank, Calif. – March 4, 2014 – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today announced Batman™: Arkham Knight, Rocksteady Studios’ conclusion to the series of award-winning, best-selling titles Batman™: Arkham Asylum and Batman™: Arkham City. Batman: Arkham Knight is based on DC Comics’ core Batman license and will be available exclusively for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Windows PC. The game is scheduled for release worldwide in 2014.

In the explosive finale to the Arkham series, Batman faces the ultimate threat against the city he is sworn to protect. The Scarecrow returns to unite an impressive roster of super villains, including Penguin, Two-Face and Harley Quinn, to destroy The Dark Knight forever. Batman: Arkham Knight introduces Rocksteady's uniquely designed version of the Batmobile, which is drivable for the first time in the franchise. The addition of this legendary vehicle, combined with the acclaimed gameplay of the Batman Arkham series, offers gamers the ultimate and complete Batman experience as they tear through the streets and soar across the skyline of the entirety of Gotham City.

“Batman: Arkham Knight is the pinnacle game of our hugely successful franchise, and we are giving players the most expansive, impressive title in the series,” said Martin Tremblay, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “The Rocksteady Studios team is continuing to focus on the excellent gameplay for which they are known while delivering a thrilling new experience for gamers and Batman fans.”

“The team at Rocksteady Studios is putting a tremendous amount of work into delivering the final chapter of our Batman: Arkham trilogy so that fans can feel what it’s like to be the Batman,” said Sefton Hill, Game Director at Rocksteady Studios. “We’re excited to be developing the game for next-gen platforms, which has allowed us to bring to life the design elements that we envisioned from the beginning such as the Batmobile and how it augments Batman’s abilities, to the fully detailed and realized Gotham City.”

Current gen only
Entirety of Gotham City

Based Rocksteady. I'm ready.

btw Not a fan of cgi trailers. It looks ok, but you know most of the kick-ass moves and some of the other stuff wouldn't be in the game.

Badass Batman design, finally they are going for the more slim-armored design, great CGI too.

But, after Arkham Origins i am pretty much done with Batman series, wish they would do another IP instead.
Good to know its next gen only though.

It all looks a bit over indulgent to me. The dialogue & voice acting was pretty "cringey".

Still I am interested to see what the actual game-play looks like. At least it's next-gen only.

Amazing CGI though.

Korndog has his wish with this one. Next gen only.

The trailer could be using in-engine assets. It's unusual for CGI to have any kind of noticeable aliasing, but you can clearly see aliasing whenever it shows batman without his mask, and on the batmobile before he gets into it. Animation clearly betrays it. The actual game might not be that far off the trailer. You only need to look at game like Ryse and The Order.

As an aside, I would hope that the next proper Batman film looks like this in style and tone. I think it's perfect for how a modern Batman film should be. Not camp like Shumacher's attempts; not bland, and overly realistic like Nolans (sans Begins).

eh, I don't fully agree. It's trying way too hard to be "badass" that it just seems kind of dumb & over produced.

The new batsuit (armor?) looks like crap and so does this tank-like batmobile. I hate it. Maybe we'll get some classic batman skins to replace this attrocity.

If its built from the ground up on a brand new game engine to meet the demands of the developers, than anything is possible. If its on the Unreal 3 engine...... oh well.

I think Nolan's films were weird in that they were visually kind of bland, as you said, but also the editing & music can feel annoyingly over done too.

First film was a good balance visually. The other two were just generic settings set in what was obviously real life Chicago and NY respectively. The only thing that alluded to the fact that it was a film based on a fictional comic was Batman himself and the batmobile and batwing to a certain extent. Two-face was well done, although he wasn't around long enough. The first film had a much more stylised look to it. The mono rail high up that stretched around a city was something that was obviously created from imagination. It had a lot of gothic architecture, and there was Arkham and the scene with the thousands of bats. That film just felt a lot more creative in a visual sense. The other two, not so much. Remember, Batman is a fictional character set in a fictional city in the same way Superman is. Batman/Gotham, distinct from each other, but familiar. Not Batman/New York, distinctly familiar but in the wrong way, akin to pouring oil into water. Doesn't mix. Just how I feel about it. Burton's Gotham looked great.
