Especially when looking at how silky smooth Overwatch appears
Overall, fun game. But i think it pretty much requires you to have at least one friend to play with, or you will end up having a bad time, as people seems to have a really hard time grasping this objective based gameplay. Console peasants, pshh :P

I feel like BattleBorn has received a lot of unfair criticism on certain forums... mostly because they hate Randy Pitchford.
Megido will tell you that comparisons to MOBA are laughable, because he's a MOBA snob. I'll tell you that comparisons to objective FPS games are laughable, because I'm an FPS snob. This game is truly a weird blend of genres.
But hey, there are some MOBA aspects in theg ame, i'm not denying that, i just don't think they are particularly deep or what really defines the flavor of the game. They took the rosh pit, a stipped down leveling mechanic and creeps on board for sure, but they don't really use them in the same way a MOBA does.
The creeps for instance kinda lack any urgency as there is only one lane, and you can't push taht lane without killing the enemy team, and there is also as such no way of ratting or split pushing or anything. There's also no real laning phase, mid game or late game distinction that i can see. You basically just do the rosh pit every time it's up, then inbetween kill your enemies. So i see it as much more of a shooter than a MOBA, even if they've borrowed some ideas.
Now, does that mean instantly that it's like CS? No, it's paced very differently, and it relies more on characters and abillities. I just don't really see it as very related to a moba more than on a surface level.

It's certainly not a good shooter. It's the MOBA part of Battleborn that makes it interesting.
I guess it's the fact that i like MOBAS and find that aspect a bit lacking in Battleborn that makes me think it's not that great. It just lacks the depth any of the two distinct genres would have. It's still fun, i just wish it would perhaps have a bit more depth. Even picking characters seems sorta unintuitive and lacking for a team game, as people don't see what you pick until you lock in.
Tries to be both, does not excell at either, i guess. Still makes for an interesting mix. That said, for free i'm enjoying this game a lot. Would NEVER pay for it.
I would recommend trying the open beta. It's definitely worth the cost of entry. The PC version may have a hard time competing with games ranging from true MOBAs to Overwatch on PC.. that may be the cost of crossing genre lines. You start competing with games in two genres :D
That being said... it is competing with games in both genres... fair or not.
