Ubisoft just announced the upcoming release in 2011 of the Beyond Good & Evil HD, the 1080p remaster of the excellent Beyond Good & Evil. While waiting for its sequel, I guess it will have to do.

gonna have to pick this up. seems next year is the year of the re-release. will be getting this, strangers wrath, ico collection and maybe even POP collection. sly collection this year too. as long as devs dont start making collections of mediocre series, then i'll probably ens up buying them all.

I played the first one to death. I really would have liked to see a sequel but maybe this one will get more people interested in the franchise.

We still get a sequel. This is a great way of making people aware and familiar with the game. As we all know, the first one sold poorly and this is exactly the kind of marketing the sequel needs in order to build up some hype. There's plenty of people that haven't even heard about BG&E.

Another HD remake? This is getting ridiculous. So far the only game that gets a pass for this is Shadow, since the original release was technically held back by PS2 (hello, 15fps!) Do these publishers have any excuse for this other than money or hyping up sequels? It's fucking sad.

broman while I understand your point of view, it's not always about exploiting popular brands, even though that may seem like the case especially nowadays. In the case of BG&E, the game never really was all that popular to begin with, and the costs for a sequel is not going to cut it if only the diehard fans are going to buy it. These HD-remakes are not just paving the way for new games, it is also an attempt to test the market, see how many people would be interested in the revival of this type of brand. If the remake manages to generate enough interest, the real sequel might actually benefit from this in the form of economical boosts for the developers, or perhaps even save an unpopular project on the edge of getting cancelled. While this is hard to speculate around since we gamers never get to see the inner workings of the industry, it is safe to say that more sales of these remakes are going to result in better chances of great sequels. I would advise everyone to buy this if they're really serious about supporting BG&E 2.

it's also awesome for those who never got a chance to play them in the first place. i myself, only played the first sly....now i get to play them all res'd up and in 3D. TONS of people didnt play this, or strangers wrath (commercial failures). and now they get the chance to. ultimately it's there for the people who think it's worthwhile. and for those who dont, dont buy it, as with any game. and as i said. as long as the trend doesnt spread to mediocre games (i dont think there would be any justification for a HD re-release of the punisher, or a re-release of barbies horse adaventure) , and sticks with the "classics" then it's all good. who wouldnt at least want the option to play the likes of shadow, ico, sly, strangers wrath and this in "HD" with locked, decent framrates...

They have said character models and textures will be also remastered so its not only bigger res. its also more polys on Jade and Pigey face and sherper textures overall.

Agreed. Not to mention that it's been 7-8 years since the original was released. A whole new generation of gamers who haven't played this masterpiece. So why not?

Also, this is more of a "remaster" than a remake. So no chance of them screwing anything up. Right?

Guess soon they will announce the second game ,and this is just something like a warm up..at least i hope so.

Game never had the chance it Deserved.

I see no problems with re-releasing great games. I am very happy to see this- especially in the case of ICO and SOTC. Hell, I'd love to get a Halo CE remake. Keep the classics Alive, I say...

The Xbox game - ie the best looking prior version of this game - didn't even have a proper widescreen mode. This is definitely justified with the same reasoning as Shadow of The Colossus. Not that I think re-releases need justifying. If anything gaming has an expiration date problem it needs to overcome asap.
