Gotta say, feeling pretty indifferent towards this tbh. I really liked the first 2. Not sure i want more though...it's limb cutting gimmick has run its course. If it was split screen co-op i think i'd be more excited though.

Limb cutting is what sold you? The series is brilliant and if that's all you're enjoying I don't know what to tell you KORN

Limb cutting is it's mainstay feature, the gimmick that differentiates IT from other action horror titles like resident evil. It wasn't the thing that sold me on the game, but it is the thing that getting stale and boring. Dark, flashlight monster closet horror has been seen and done a million times before, twice in this very franchise. So if the concept is tired, and the gimmick is tired...what reason is there to be excited by a third game that offers the same?

EDIT: oh wait, it's in the snow now, that alone makes it so fresh and exciting again...

Because it's a lot more than just shooting limbs off creatures?
You've just pointed out a minor feature in a complex game and elevated it to the level of it being a deal breaker
You're making a mountain out of a mole hill
Not to mention that this IP is basically brand new, and it makes you sound like a whiner

The core concept of monster closet horror, and the core concept of its combat are "minor features"

Erm.....ooook?!? What else is there? Finding ammo?...your totally right. I'll play this game for that reason alone...hahaha.

Edit : and the snow of course...

So what about other games? If they don't have a gimmick or anything, then do they automatically fail? =p

If a game doesn't have a gimmick as a core concept for combat (see fracture and terrain deformation, red faction and destruction, singularity and time manipulation etc), generally it means its using a more traditional standard method of combat, something we've used, played, and enjoyed for years. But thats an inherent problem with gimmicks, they only get you so far. They're usually great, differentiating factors....at first

Your getting hung up on the gimmick though. The monster closet scares are equally as tired a concept. Horror games, whether action based or not rely on an element of surprise. Dead space 2 lost that, it wasn't scare...at all!, hell, dead space 1 lost that after about an hour, the possibilities the third in the series will somehow get it back are pretty slim imo. Maybe i'm wrong? All i know is that my interest level for this is currently through the floor. Going from claustrophobic ship to snowy cave isn't really the sort of thing to get me excited. Co-op has potential, but i'd rather it be split screen. I dunno, just not doing much for me atm.

You forgot the two best gimmiks Korn that have made it into every game ever since..

Regenerating health (shields)
Only able to carry two weapons (now 3 if 1 is a ripped off stationery gun)

those were the best gimmiks ever done :) simple and awesome (the shields makes more sense than the health though.. its ok i can push the bullets out my head in the next 10 seconds.)

That's why it's optional.
Also since it's not SPLIT SCREEN, it would still basically be an intense solitary experience... even though in Korn's mind that's a bad thing

Huh, no, i said dead space stopped being 'intense and scary' a long time ago. Co-op makes sense in its current 'devoid of scares' form. It amps up the action...i'd rather it still be a scary, solitary, intense HORROR game like the first one was for an hour, but dead space 2, as good as it was, proved that isn't the case anymore. It's a dismemberment shooting gallery...now in the snow...and now with 2 players...unless you favour split screen.
