PS3

For those who wondered about those close-ups of the supposed heroin of Heavy Rain Quantic Dream released a few weeks ago, here is the same face in video. Totally useless, but impressive.

Well, yeah, that's very nice done... but! I want to see the game, not only the face animations of one of the characters!! Leveldesign, gameplay, story, that's all the important things. Cool face animations are a nice bonus, nothing more! IMO.

Okay, so we get to see an animation of a face...twice. Awesome :)

So, it looks good but really...what are we supposed to get out of this? Show the whole model in a room at least, or even better a scene out of the game. Shees.

Hrimtur: Actually i'd say that in a game like this facial animation is VERY important. You can convey information and feelings in many other ways than text and speech.

So true. Quantic Dream's Fahrenheit had one of the worst stories I've ever played in a video game. The first few hours were impressive, but then it had a total lack of originality and sense.

Hm, well, in cutscenes that might be true, but not during the game. Look at Uncharted. very nice game with very cool facial animations... during the cut scenes and dialogues. But not during the game. And in cut scenes you can do whatever you want, without changing anything in the game itself! Oh god, I hope you understand what I wanna tell you ^^

Heavy Rain is an adventure title, cut-scenes and dialogue are the game.

Hrimtur: I totally know what you mean, but did you even play Fahrenheit? I assume that you didn't based on what you just said.

I'm going to assume that Cage builds upon the same concept as Fahrenheit with this game too, meaning that most of the time the game will be feeding you cutscenes accompanied by QTE-like button sequences or with the brilliand dialogue system. Hence facial animation and body language will have a much bigger impact on this game than it would on an action title where you always just see the back of your guy.

Aha... Well, that sounds quite interesting. No, I didn't play Fahrenheit, you guessed right ^^
So, this game will be a sort of Baphomet's curse in 3D?! (didn't find any other title to compare at the moment ^^)

Fahrenheit played somewhat like BROKEN SWORD ;) Not much in terms of combat, focus was more on solving puzzles, Conversation (that was the best part) and the qte sequences. But nah, it's not really like the old school point and click adventure titles...maybe something in between.

For years they show us nothing but stuff like this. It doesn't mean a whole lot if they don't show some ingame stuff. At best no it's a pretty animation.

Good facial animations, yes, but you also have to remember the game itself isn't running ontop of this. Tech demos tend to show the best the engine can do, not what the engine will be doing in the game.

Heh. Looks good, but there's nothing "impressive" about that.

Pretty much expected, i don't see anything worth "praising".

a woo and a yay for that muscle simulation, subsurface scattering and what the heck else... this is by far the best tech demo (of human eyes and partly the face) I ever saw!
If they can keep up this quality for the whole body overall, i will fall off my seat...
If they can keep up this quality for the whole body AND the background, i am going to travel to their dwelling place and built a shrine for them, right in front of their entrance!

but honestly...

I doubt it

My mind has been blown, if I get to see that in action, I'll be sold. So life-like, and not even "uncanny valley". Sweet depth of field and lighting.

Nice prerendered CG , but i want real time and not just a face turning side to side. and we all know that the face will be downgraded later cause you wont spend time looking up close a face but a story and the actions that you do.

Show me creativity and not just graphics , show me a story. i hate studios that only shows graphics just to hide the fact the story will suck.

'prerendered CG'? It might be, but they say it's real time...

what's with people saying it's not impressive? fanboys much? Basically the most impressive face in any game ever, and the game won't need to render TOO much more to work this into an adventure game...

lame. Any "Tech demo" can look this good if its just one model or character on the screen and all you can do is move a camera around. So i guess this looks good for a game where you spin a camera around the head of a lady...But lets see these gfx generated while actually playing and moving the character around, with other characters and objects and models on the screen...it wont happen.
