Bohemia Interactive has renamed the main island of Arma 3 to Altis. You will found below the press relase and two new screenshots.
Bohemia Interactive has renamed the main island of its upcoming mil-sim game, Arma 3. The new name, ‘Altis’, reflects the distinctive Mediterranean identity of its environment, but distinguishes it from the real-world Greek island of Lemnos, which has served as the main source of inspiration.
The decision follows an incident involving the arrest of two Bohemia Interactive employees, who were spending their holidays on Lemnos. Both were detained for 129 days on suspicion of espionage. They were recently released on bail.
Arma 3’s main island (approx. 350 km²) is inspired by the beautiful environment of the Greek island, Lemnos (approx. 475 km²), artistically re-created based on commercially and publicly available data. It was originally chosen to be the centre-piece of the game after Bohemia Interactive's CEO, Marek Spanel, visited the island on vacation several years ago and shared his impressions with the Arma 3 development team.
However, in view of recent events, the team no longer feels passionate about using the previous name, 'Limnos', and hopes that the new identity, ‘Altis’, will help emphasize the fictional nature of the game. A secondary, significantly smaller island in Arma 3, ‘Stratis’ (approx. 20 km²), will keep its name.
Joris-Jan van 't Land, Project Lead on Arma 3, explains:
"As part of the creative process, our virtual environments are often rooted in real-life locations and, during development, they evolve and grow along with our design. The resulting fictional environment is often close to its inspiration, but it's never exactly the same - nor would we want it to be. For us, 'Altis' echoes the Mediterranean heart of our island, but differentiates it from any undesired real-life connotations."
Starting with the successful Arma: Cold War Assault (originally titled Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis*) in 2001, Arma 3 is the latest installment in the award-winning tactical military shooter series by Bohemia Interactive. This PC-exclusive video game, which is set in 2035, provides an authentic combat experience in a massive military sandbox. Running on a brand new version of the Real Virtuality™ engine, Arma 3 features a wide variety of single- and multiplayer gameplay - supported by limitless opportunities for content creation.
Arma 3 is scheduled for release in 2013. More precise details will be announced later this month.

Can't wait for another news outlet to accidentally use ArmA footage and mistake it for real.
By the time ArmA3 comes out the 700 series will be here, and we'll have $350 graphics cards that kick this games ass. Maxwell, next year, will likely destroy everything that's on the market thus far (and those boxes that will ship at the end of the year). So.. not much?
On topic - holy c*** it looks impressive.
There are plenty of other reasons to games like this on PC.
As Awesome as ArmA 3 looks and I expect it'll be freakin' awesome, I really don't like the "future" aspect of it. I just want current stuff, no made up shit. I'm hoping ACE3 brings it back to that. I don't mind stuff like Jackals (next gen prototype potentially replacing HUMVEEs) but some of the ArmA 3 stuff seems a bit much. Just gimme an M16A4 and let me slap some optics on it. I don't need an XM8 hahahahahaha.

Rumours about the next GTX780 are that performance would increase with about 15%. But that it is an transition GPU in terms of power efficiency and aimed at lower prices, so no high end prices but mid-range prices. Although it's a new GPU, it's more an updated GTX680. The GTX880 would be the real next generation. But those are rumours.
Ontopic: although I love the Arma-games, they have always been crap at release. The engine is still built on the first engine, but with new features and enhancements. But Arma fans know that the engine is flawed. It is incredibly badly optimised. Just like Arma 1, Arma 2 needed a long list of patches and months before it began to run respectable. This time though, I will not be fooled again and won't buy it on release, but only months after and at a cheap price.
It is even suppose to be more powerful than gtx690 which is the fastest non cf or sli card. Which was retailed for 999$ lol. Titan is suppose to be 899$ with 6 gig gddr5.

Too bad I cannot affor it will have build a PC for this monster. But you do not need such extreme performance cards anyways. Even 660ti which is 299$ can do 1080p 4xaa/16af and run game 40+fps which next gen console can't. Sad but true.

I mean 720 is going to have ddr3, lol wtf ? Serisouly gtfo
Next gen console will do 1080P 30fps I am sure. Racing game will be 60fps. Moreover the whole package will not be more than500$. I think 720 might be 399 and PS4 449. So look at big picture ;) I never understand having multiple gfx cards and these days they are making gfx card over 499$ lol.
I really hope next gen actually does impress though and specs are hopefully better than leaked ones but I guess leaked info turns out always right :| Big Sony fan here so hope they do not disappoint on Feb 20th.
I actually find it funny how ignorant console gamers really are to the world of PC gaming. I've had almost all the consoles, been playing on PC since roughly 1996 for gaming. And I've never once had to explain what it's about to another PC gamer. Somehow, for console gamers, it's a total fucking mystery.
Being around for that console shift that took place with the first multiplayer console with PC ported games, console gamers have always been looked at (since then) as basically second rate PC gamers.
I don't know where I'm going with this, but I just find you people looney... It should always be about the gameplay.
Maybe its not that bad, as You explain it, but there is that stupid fight between console and PC gamers. PC games are usually PC, because it needs a massive CPU calculations, more complex controlls and such things. Army sims, flight sims and this kind of stuff, but I must say, that for the first time, I tried new DMC as a sort of a PC port from consoles and I love it. Higher resolution, better textures and amazing framerate. I really dont understand what is so offensive for each group, they have to fight over it.
