Video PC Xbox 360 PS3

About 14 years ago, I was 14 years younger and I remember being blown away by Duke Nukem Forever's E3 trailer. Little did I know I would talk about the game's final release on a website dedicated to video games in 2011. As you will see, Duke shows his age, both graphically and when it comes to level design. Still, the game is a good laugh, but you have to accept a huge leap in time, which very few people will be ready to in my humble opinion. The console version suffers from many slowdowns and awfully long loading times, but things are smoother and faster on PC. The videos are from the PC version in 1080p and 30 fps but the game obviously runs at 60 fps.
Update: Two gameplay videos added.
Update 2: Last video added, so you can see Duke's legendary finesse.

Looks Damn Good to me !
But I am old school...and I do not really care about the grafix and if they are dated!
This is a trip into my past,
and I am just glad Gearbox did what they did !

Thanks !

Graphics are dated, gameplay is new meets crap. It's really an awful game. I've played a couple of hours, broken up into multiple sessions and it's just so damn tedious. EVERYTHING is scripted, you literally get stuck against invisible walls every few feet you travel to be confronted with another scripted event.

It would have been funnier if it had released in 98 as polanned but the jokes still hit home every now and then. I mean, the entire joke is just that people are bonkers over Duke, and it kinda works. Where it fails to make an impression is the cookie-cutter gameplay. It doesn't feel all that well made and there's not even an attempt at making the game stand out or feel just geninely good in any way. At the same time it's not in any way bad...it jsut kinda gets lost in the shuffle of all the FPS games out there.

I'd give it 5/10 based on that it was kinda fun but nothing memorabl. The very definition of a middle of the road kind of game. Don't expect too much but if you liike Duke, don't be afraid to pick it up...more or less :)

I played the PC version though, so i don't know anything about performance issues. It ran at a steady 60 fps constantly with everything set on Ultra.

Yeah, not the best game, but the game is pretty dated so its not like it was gonna be the game of the year, we all knew that. But it still gets a 7/10 from me, it could have been better with todays tech. Maybe they will do a new game with todays tech later and faster.

Personally i think the game feels dated and bland because GearBox didn't want to keep the cycle repeating, they just decided that what was tehre would be polished up enough that it'd be posible to box and sell it and that's it.

I believe that Yahtzee from ZP said that any competent developer could fart this game out in no time and that seems to be exactly what Gearbox have done. Farted this game out with minimal effort in order to cash in on the franchise and be done with it.

As you guys have said, nothing awful but nothing special either.

Seen nothing but bad reviews so far. Might wait till its dirt cheap. Should have released it 2 years ago when it was originally finished.

Forever is imo pretty mediocre at best and lacks the feeling and soul of Duke 3d

This looks like they tried too hard to make it like the old ones

It's like the problem Sega still has making their Sonic games.
Got some dyslexic devs working on this.

Looks like an HD remix of an Xbox 1 game.

You can't blame Gearbox. They did what they had to do: release the game to compensate for the costs. 3DRealms made a mess of the game. There are only 2 things Gearbox could have done: finish and release it or throw it in the garbage bin. Maybe the latter would have been the best choice in terms of quality. Maybe if sales are good, Gearbox can make a true new Duke Nukem.
yeah, basically Gearbox have the rights to Duke now and are no doubt in full production of one that makes use of todays hardware. They probably thought releasing this would get Dukes name back out there and they'd be able to capitolise on that later down the line with the release of another... the reality is it'll probably work more against them now.

The game's in no state to be released if the console demo's anything to go by..something now backed up by the reviews of the full retail. And if you're offered something so shoddy and frankly broken then its doubful that another title using the Duke name is going to sell in the millions.

Gearbox should have cut their loses with this..rather than adding to them, as i cant see this one selling well at all.

The game doing well in UK - number one this week. I want to hear some numbers after 2-3 weeks. As i expected - no matter how shitty is, the game will sell well just because the box art say DUKE. :P

Seth i think you will find DUKE is not as big a franchise as you think.. and to be fair i think its selling pretty well for something most kids have no idea what it is.

Loved Duke Nukem 3D when i was 10-11 years old kid. It was funny as hell. Sorry but the ''new'' one is different. It's a mess of a game - it's not even a oldschool because you can see that they have stealed fuckload of things from all new shooters around. The final result is not good, sadly.
I'm happy for one thing - i can't buy games blindly as most of the people do.
