Today, Techland reveals Be the Zombie, the coop multiplayer of Dying Light. At nighttime, players can act as Night Hunters and invade others' game but for that you'll have to pre-order the game. If not you'll still be able to face a possible invasion.
2 October 2014 – Warsaw, Poland/… Today Techland released a new gameplay trailer for Dying Light to showcase the asymmetric multiplayer aspect of the game. Featuring a game-changing day & night cycle, unprecedented freedom of movement, and vast open world with 50+ hours of gameplay, Dying Light will also offer a full-fledged co-op multiplayer for up to 4 players – with a twist.
“The game is absolutely huge as it is, but to provide the ultimate zombie survival experience, we added an extra element of unpredictability to our nighttime gameplay” – says Dying Light’s Producer Tymon Smektala. “Online players can face the threat of a possible invasion of their game by the Night Hunter, an extremely powerful, human-controlled zombie mutation. These invasions are an inherent part of Dying Light, available on all platforms for all online players from day one. However for our hardcore fans who pre-order, we’re offering them a bonus – Be the Zombie – which lets you actually take control of the Night Hunter and invade online games of other players.”
Dying Light can be pre-ordered from the game's official website, from select retailers and is also available for pre-purchase on Steam. These pre-orders and pre-purchases come with the free Be the Zombie DLC, letting players take control of the Night Hunter themselves. By playing as the Night Hunter and invading other games, players get access to a completely new character with a unique set of moves and abilities which can be upgraded using experience points. The Be the Zombie mode will be available across all platforms.
Dying Light will be released in 2015 on January 27th in the Americas, January 28th in Australia and New Zealand, and January 30th in Europe and Asia.

Just goes to show how much companies rely on this BS tactic and try to keep something they believe to be good behind it. And if you don't pre-order, but buy the game and want it later, you end up paying for it.
Resident Evil 6, with all its flaws, had the same thing, but unlocked after completing the game's campaign and allowed you to be different creatures. While with Dying Light, the most important part of the coop multiplayer is behind a paywall, be of faith or money.
This mode looks cool, because just like Dark Souls, sometimes it's great to be the villain and wreck another player's game, but this pre-order BS should be restricted to cosmetic things like skins for characters and weapons, and not for gameplay contents.
I can almost see the day when multiplayer or single-player will be sold as DLC, if that hasn't happened already.
I do however think that devs should make the preorder extras available to everyone after so long, maybe let people who preorder get the extras for maybe a month then release it for everyone else to use
The biggest reason companies created and use pre-order bonuses is to try and make sure people buy the games new, not used copies. So if you don't want to risk losing money and prefer to wait for reviews, you will either lose that extra content or have to wait and pay for it when it becomes available.
So, for example, let's say you buy a game on the day its released after reading/watching reviews, you bought a new copy on day 1, but you will get less content because you didn't risk pre-ordering the game.
This is only one example, the truth is that you may just discover a game a few weeks after release, with so many games being released, it's easy to lose track, specially when you work and/or study, and don't have enough time to catch up on everything. Or you might have had an extra expense you weren't expecting and need to buy it later when you have more money.
I don't mind giving something extra for those that believed in your game, as long as that is purely cosmetic. As soon as you start messing with gameplay content, you are effectively taking away from the core game. So in this case, you lose an integral part of the coop gameplay, which is the ability to play as the Night Hunter and terrorise other players.
Just like Alien: Isolation with the pre-order bonuses, this isn't just something cosmetic, but something important for a lot of players. So regardless of whether you will use it or not, it's still an important part of the game that you lose and will have to pay for when it becomes available, should you want it.
Plus you might even like this content if you play it, but without having that option unless you pay for it, you might never bother. What you said is what Nintendo did - not sure if it still does - with some of their games, as long as you bought it in a set period of time, you would get the extra content immediately and for free.
To me, this is the best option, but who knows why companies don't do it. Also worth nothing is that if a game doesn't rely on day of release embargoes, pre-ordering becomes more accepable since you can have a more solid idea of what you are buying, it still doesn't help people who buy it after release, but it alleviates the problem.
I never saw the point in preordering games before because stores and online stores never run out of copies of the game..infact there has never been a game that ive bought and the stores have sold out of it and I usually like most big games.
But then I decided to preorder the ps4 and I got it 5 days early, so I decided to preorder ps4 games because I actually saw that a lot of places had the games a lot cheaper for preorder than others and cheaper than I could get in any store on the high street and the fact I also get the games 3-5 days before actual release date
like the new alien game it was shipped this morning so I will get it tomorrow if not it deffo will be Saturday and I got it for a bargain £34..i did have it preordered at amazon but that was £44 so cancelled that one.
I do think any preorder bonus should be a timed bonus specially if its extra missions, tbh I don't give a crap about extra clothes for the character as that adds nothing to the game
