Edward Kenway and his pirate friends are depicted in these new screenshots of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. We'll add the new trailers soon. Update 2: Trailer showing the next-gen version added.
Granted, they may have milked the hell out of this series, but having not played the last 2, I can honestly say that these screens look stunning to me, and actually make me really want this game.
Although the art and technical aspects look incredible, it will all still hinge on the gameplay. If this still boils down to shallow, semi interactive exploration, overly easy combat, and not much else, the visuals will be for naught. I am hoping they decide to at least try SOMETHING new other than a facelift here...
I wish they had just made the first game, the second game, brotherhood, and then this as the last one. The last couple of games really took the wind out of... yeah I'll stop there, but the series took an abrupt change in my eyes after 2. I wish they'd try to make a polished game that was more like the original with more freedom and stealth.
The freezing and finally crashing issues at the presentation were straight embarrassing and considering the freezing in Destiny it seems the PS4 might have some problems.

Cue the AC hatred in 5.4.3.2...

If you haven't played the last two, you might really enjoy this. That said, some of the changes they made to combat are stupid and frustrating. The timing feels a little more wonky, and they totally reworked the controls for combat andmade it basically a game of memorization where you have to use a specific button press against different guys, most of whom don't really get their role across through what they look like so you kind of have to just screw up to figure out what doesn't work against them. It's sort of lame and a lot less fun than brotherhood, even with some cool improvements. The Ship stuff is genuinely awesome when you aren't trying to get some of the silly hard optional objectives as long as the mission isn't designed poorly.
That said, it's still a modern AC game. It's not going to go back to more of what the first game wanted to offer, it's just moving in the same direction that the series has been going for a while, making stealth more and more difficult as they do things like give guards eyes in the back of their heads so they randomly attack you on the street without even seeing you, or having arbitrary "alarms" during fortress clearing and stuff.

assuming anything we've seen of "next gen" is even running on final hardware at this stage. i'm kinda doubtful myself. wouldn't be surprised if even watchdogs was still running on "next gen spec" PC's.
