Xbox 360 PS3

The normal thing to do after releasing a CG trailer would probably be to stop sending out more renders, but Codemasters are at it again. Here are a couple of target renders of Operation Flashpoint 2.

E3 target renders

  • E3: Operation Flashpoint 2 renders - E3 target renders
  • E3: Operation Flashpoint 2 renders - E3 target renders

To be honest I don't think that the in game shots will be a million miles off the target renders. After seeing what codies did with grid and just how bloody smooth it runs then I'm confident we'll see one of the best looking shooters in a long while. (this is using the grid engine. yea?)

I'm not totally feeling the desaturated colours and the overuse of bloom but Im getting more and more used to it purely because it's getting used in almost every game now.

I just hope that they lean heavily towards simulation in regards to the combat and flight characteristics.

Hopefully Codemasters follows Bohemia Interactive's (original OFP dev) comcept of realistic, sim-like battlefield tactics. Long before anyone else, Bohemia succeeded in bringing that 'military' feel to the gamer. Many other so-called military FPS up untill this very day do not succeed in bringing strategy and logic to the battlefield as Bohemia did back in 2001. The original game was used as a combat simulator in several real world armies.

As to the graphics: slightly oversaturated, but according to sources who visited a Codemasters event very impressive. Let's pray this can be delivered at a decent framerate without screen tearing.

loved the first one.. i remember thinking that looked photo realistic. I hope theres a map editor with this one too.. loved the fact that you could not only make your own maps/battles, but you could also make cinematic intros to them.

Thats the kind of grafic that we will see about 10 yars. If they can do 50% of it, thats will be cool.
On the first place in that game of course is a fisics of bullets, battle tactics, AI and injury realism.

I don’t like target render at all.
Artworks are okay because they only show a design direction without considering computer techniques. Target renders always imply a certain level of detail etc. because they already use 3D-modells and computer effects etc.
And I believe the goal of these a different too. Discussions on artworks are mostly over the design being good or bad from individual point of view, here we talk already about graphics without any actual screenshot.

I wish they would stop releasing these target renders as either you have ingame material to show off or you don’t.
