I like the tone of the teasers, my guess is that its gonna be a small town religious cult kinda situation. There were some rumours about the protagonist being a cop in present day Montana

Yes religious cults / redneck settings are the new zombies. Everything is turning towards that direction now.

This better not feel like a fc3 skin and please ffs don't make me skin dozens of animals to make a bigger purse again. The fc3 formula was great but they exhausted its welcome, they need to take a risk and make big changes even if it ends up not working out perfectly.

It's been a while. I could totally play another Far Cry game. And I mean Ubi Cry.

Far cry is actually one of ubisoft' s most polished games. Fc4 and primal looked amazing and ran great on ps4

True I didn't play Primal. A lot of people like it though. And I agree that FC3/4 are very similar games. I certainly wouldn't play them back-to-back. Ultimately I like FC4 more because of co-op and refinement, but a lot of people were still too burned out on FC3 to care.

PC ports aren't perfect.. but I've played far worse. They can never nail raw mouse input for some reason though.

I was pretty bored by Far Cry 4 too, although I don't even think it's necessarily the "formula", but that it's become quite mechanically transparent or something.

I loved both Far Cry 3 and 4. Primal not so much, I felt like the first half of the game was too slow-paced and by the time it picks up, I didn't care anymore for the world, story and characters.

Without seeing anything from the game, it's hard to comment, but I was really hoping Far Cry 5's setting would be the Wild West - we all know there's not many Wild West games, unfortunately - or something more exotic, like in Victorian London, a setting which isn't used much in games. Another one is Medieval Japan or China, which could be great with the Far Cry formula.

But there were many more exotic settings suggested by Ubisoft itself in a survey sent a to a lot of Far Cry 4 players back in 2014:

- Remote Alaska about surviving extreme wilderness
- Futuristic, sci-fi setting on another planet
- Vietnam war during the 1960s
- Cocaine trafficking jungles of Peru
- Where you can fight against or join vampires
- Spaghetti Western style set in the late 19th century Americas
- During a zombie outbreak
- Blood Dragon 2: A sequel to Blood Dragon with more Rex Power Colt
- Mad Max style post-apocalyptic world
- Present day on a Jurassic Park style island of dinosaurs
- Based on the world of Shangri-La from Far Cry

Of those, my pick would be the "Futuristic Sci-fi on another plannet" setting, since it could be like a spiritual sucessor to what Prey 2 was shaping up to be. Another great one is the "Jurassic Park" setting, which could be like a Turok game. I would love a Blood Dragon 2 as well, loved the first one. And a "Mad Max style post-apocalyptic" setting could be an interesting take with the Far Cry formula.

Without knowing anything more about the game, it's hard to draw a conclusion, but if given the choice between a modern period in a US setting - which has been done to death in games, specially FPS ones - and a far more exotic setting, I would go the exotic route always.

Also, this could help bring new people to the Far Cry franchise and make people who got tired of the formula interested again if setting and gameplay were appealing enough - for example, in a Medieval Japan or China setting, one might rely more on melee weapons than just bows, which could give a different enough experience to the standard Far Cry one.

It could be like a Chivalry: Medieval Warfare combat system if they did it right, and they could use the help of the For Honor team to help further develop the combat. They could even remove bows entirely and only give throwing spears, daggers and darts for long range combat. But sure, present day Cops and Robbers it is, which as of right now, doesn't sound very appealing or something that could help bringing back people who got burned out of the franchise.

I don't understand why anyone who isn't in some kind of evangelical cult/gang would find that they were being made fun of. Was "Red State" anti-American propaganda, or is it just okay if you're criticized by other Americans? This is as much of a rorschach test as it is any kind of social commentary at this point.
