That was pretty nicely done.

Hope they use a new engine on Reach though :)

Yes, they are making a new engine for Reach. Despite the old tech, this still looks very nice.

Okay, since no one else is going to do it, I'll be the first to put it out there. After 3 Halo games before this and almost ten years of the Halo franchise, is this all that Bungie can give us? It's the same f--king game. I am not whining about it, and I know there are some of you guys that don't like my comments sometimes, but I don't bash games just for the sake of bashing them, I bash games that deserve to be bashed. I was a die-hard Halo player; almost to the point that no other fps was good enough for me. Dare I say that I didn't even purchase my own copy of Call of Duty4. I liked it and played it, but I never bought it. Now after watching that video in hd it just proved my point even more that when a developer becomes reknowned for a particular title, they eventually slack off from delivering a descent sequal. Bungie are definitely guilty. Halo3 was just the unfinished game of Halo2. Anyone who completed Halo2 on the Xbox would know that it was cut short and that the devs obviously had to rush the game to store shelves to meet deadline. So in turn we got Halo3, which was almost technically identical to it's last gen little brother. You don't have to have 20/20 vision to see that. Now they decide to give us this ODST game that looks like a launch title. WTF? Did you see the animations? The enemies didn't even look like they were in battle. My gosh, upgrade the engine why don't you. The brown and 5:00p.m lighting is so out of touch. If this game has a 59.99 price, they are robbing their fanbase. It's just wrong. I only made it through 2/3 of the video before my eyes glazed. If this game doesn't sale well, it will be their own fault. Maybe it will make them step up like the other developers who are doing it better. If some of you don't like my comments (and you know who you are), piss off.

I would agree with you to an extent but I think there's a few things you aren't considering. This is a sidestory, an expansion of Halo 3 (hence Halo 3 being in the name). You shouldn't expect them to create a new engine and change all of their gameplay mechanics, physics, animation, etc etc. When Reach comes along and if it still suffers from the same problems, then complaining will be more appropriate.

And also this isn't the same linear corridor shooter Halo 2 and Halo 3 were. It's structured similar to the way the new PoP was. You have a massive overworld to explore and then more linear missions scattered about for you to complete in any order you see fit. Just in terms of gameplay mechanics, yes this is pretty much identical to Halo 2 and 3, but there are some new tweaks to the formula and the game is structured completely differently than any prior Halo game.

It's the same f--king game.
Heavy input from the American GRAW's lead + nonlinear level design say otherwise. And, puts it toward the top of my list.

The character faces doesnt look fantastic, but atleast not like they belong to a 1st gen PS2 game like the earlier Halo games... characters looked horrible in Halo 3, too bad it didnt look like in this video atleast ^^

The fact that they're selling this at full price is pure greed and an insult to their fans. Bungie stated last year that this would be released below standard pricing. Then they tried to justify the price jump because it now contains all Halo 3 dlc and the Reach beta key. All the Halo 3 maps were planned to be included since the beginning so that part is BS, and since when does a beta key increase the cost to develop a title?!? Pure greed.

Eh, at least it looks better than Halo 3. I mean, it should anyway, but still.

I'm quite surprised at the bashing this is taking, because I personally think it looks pretty good - and that's coming from someone who can't say he loved Halo 3. The visuals look fine to me; face models are vastly improved, the environments look decent enough and there appears to be a much better narrative. Just because it isn't anything mindblowing doesn't necessarily mean it looks bad.

Sure, when you compare it to other FPS games coming out - Call of Duty springs to mind - it doesn't really compete but, then again, this isn't meant to be a sequel is it?

I won't be buying it anyway, and I can imagine many others are in the same boat. This will still sell well, what with it being Halo, but it's not going to enhance Bungie's reputation much (if at all).

i like the fact this game is getting a bit more flak then usual personally. it just shows people arnt being quite as sheepish as they usually are with the franchise, people have expectation when it comes to halo, and this sadly doesnt seem to be meeting them, even for the more hardcare fans. they seem to be catching on the fact the games dont seem to attempt to improve upon the prevous entry and i think thats a good thing. they're not just gobbling up whatever bungie spits out, they want improvements...this isnt going to give them, but hopefully reach will.

as for sales, i honestly dont think this is going to be a huge runaway success like previous titles for a few reasons, firstly, the aformentioned backlash against the game from even die hard fans, and the fact it's an expansion. it will sell well obviously, but i dont think it's going to even approach the numbers seen for halo 3.

of course it wont sell as much as halo 3 its an expansion and there wont be as much spent on marketing for it either, but it will still sell more than most all other games coming out this year. As for Reach it all depends what kind of game it is, if it delves into the GRAW squad type game it will lose allot of sales i think, Now Halo4 when it drops i expect very big things from.

I think the game looks pretty sweet. When you see the ODST characters in 3rd person view they looks better than Gears2 characters. Also the lighting and effects are simply amazing. HALO 3/ODST has the most impressive explosion/fire effects i've seen so far. I think most people really exaggerate.
