Video Xbox 360

Third and last video from our Forza Motorsport 3 archives after El Camino Viejo and last week's replay. Here come more than two minutes of sixty frames per second gameplay goodness of Forza Motorsport 3 on the circuit of Le Mans. Our driver wasn't very good - in his defense, the official cars of the competition are real rockets - so you'll have to live with this short excerpt. But we managed to capture quite a fun and unexpected accident so I guess it makes up for the poor skills. Right?

La Sarthe without night/day cycle is just like GT4. Looks good although I don't see much difference in the environment compared to FM2.

Looks great as always!

What is even more impressive is that it took 9 comments before GT was mentioned! That must be some kind of new record.

Looks great, but is it me or is the sense of speed lacking? I notice the car is shaking and going over bumps but the camera remains pretty static besides a few subtle instances.

I was hoping they'd make the hood/bumper cam similar to this.

yeah, Vspectra06, it does seem abit on the slow side. I was thinking the same. It doesn't feel like running 300kph on the Mulzanne straight. Running 100+ kph through the chicanes just before start does seem spot on though. Maybe the speed sensation just doesn't scale very well? I don't know.

And let's not forget the missing sound. Sound adds to the sensation as well.

Mostly, though. I really don't like the trees in here. They have no life, and all shaded in the same bright green. Those trees is very much responsible for the cartoony feel many are getting. I hope this will be adressed before final.

I like the Porsche crashing - it looks awesome, but the actual impact when hitting it is not so 'rewarding'. Both of the crashes missed some depris flying everywhere... Maybe damage was turned off in this build?

Vegetation looks very poor and track itself is so empty so boring.

Yeah, some marrows, tomato plants and even some runner beans would be quite nice: Forza Motorsport - Allotment edition.

Honestly...

He said vegetation, not vegetables. Vegetation = trees, bushes, plant life, etc. Not that I care.

I think his point was that the real track IS that empty and boring IRL and ironically suggested some "improvements".

But seriously, as I said, the track is boring IRL and is therefore boring in the game. That is why the fantasy track looks so much better, because there they don´t have to stay true to an original.

The lack of a sense of speed was always Forza's main problem. On the straights you feel like you're going maybe half as fast as the speed gauge tells you.

On the upside, it does look really fluent. A bit to smooth maybe. That could also contribute to the lack of speed. There's no vibration in the car.

Why no damage though? Doesn't that make the whole rewind system a tad redundant?

I know, just being fecicious, that's all.

Screenshots will always show up vegetation and what-not quite badly, as it is stationary. 99% of the population won't even give it a thought when bombing around at 100mph+, so I wouldn't worry too much about the state of the fauna.

That's just WAY too picky (see Forza forum entry about fuel filler cap being on wrong side of Lexus for more productive critique).

The 'speed' is just closer to reality then you'd like, which is fine, you have to make a lot of unrealistic compromises to make things look 'rocket ship' fast, and that is the reserve of arcade games...

Like most things, if you give yourself time to adjust, things are not so bad, after being quite happy on FM2 for a few hours, if I then pop into a PGR4 game, the artificial 'speed' just then seems so wrong.. but playing it for a few hours and it becomes the 'norm'..

Still waiting to watch this video though (stuck in work :()

I think the sense of speed in Forza 3 seems spot on to me.
You can't really compare the sense of speed in a Sim racer with a
Arcade racers.
I have driven at nearly 190MPH (My Dad has a Nissan 300ZX tuned to 675bhp) and at that speed the scenery does not fly past like it does in Arcade racers.
Most of the sensation of speed comes from the sound of the engine and the vibration coming from the road.
