After seeing the game in action at E3 and in Cologne, we were pretty excited to discover the final version of Contrast, which we were sent about a week ago. After completing it in 4 to 5 hours, we can give you our final verdict, and propose a bunch of 1080p/60fps videos as usual.
Verdict
Contrast is by no means perfect but it is so charming that it is hard to resist its unique atmosphere and touching story. We wish some puzzles had been more audacious, leaving the old moving crates around mechanics to concentrate on what the game does best, shadow gameplay. Controls are sometimes a bit awkward, which can lead to a bit of frustration, but as the game never really is too challenging, it's not that hard to get over such moments. On the bright side, which may seem like an odd thing to say for a game based on shadows, characters, music and arts are excellent and deserve to be praised. Compulsion's title is then what we could call a diamond in the rough, whose irregularities never really hide its true worth. All you have to do to see it is to try it. PS4 owners won't have to hesitate if they are PS+ members since the game is (or will be) available for free. As for the rest, well give the 360 demo a try and see for yourself!
