GSY Review PC PS4

Furi will be out tomorrow and we have been able to review the game on both PS4 and PC. As usual, you will find the verdict and the +/- section alongside homemade screenshots and videos.

Verdict

Furi is undeniably an incredibly well-crafted game, where gameplay is almost flawless and mechanics are particularly innovating. It's above all a game where skills are required and patterns must be learned and understood in order to complete. Provided you give yourself the means, it's also a very gratifying experience and we have loved every single second of it. With its great soundtrack and art style, the only reason that could keep you away from the game is its genre itself, as not everyone enjoys boss fighters, but as it will be offered on PS+ tomorrow, console owners should definitely give it a try. As for PC gamers, it is still worth a buy if you like a challenge as it should take you more than 10 hours to complete.
  • On the upside
  • Impressive learning curve
  • Excellent gameplay mechanics
  • A lesson in boss fighting
  • Smart and varied patterns
  • Gratifying victories
  • Solid story and unexpected ending
  • Good longevity and replay value
  • English and Japanese voices
  • Splendid electro soundtrack
  • Great art style
  • Challenging in the default mode
  • On the downside
  • The easy difficulty setting
  • Some tearing and occasional frame drops on PS4
  • Projectiles are a bit too bright, which can affect visibility
  • Unlockable artworks are a bit disappointing (black & white sketches) EDIT : You can also unlock colored artworks with the highest difficulty setting actually

Note:

Screenshots are from the PS4 version and videos from the PC version.

It took Guts more than 10 hours to complete the game in Furi mode (the recommended setting), which is pretty good for a boss fighter.

After you beat the game, you unlock a training mode which allows to unlock some artworks. but alos a speedrun mode with online leaderboards. A new difficulty mode also unlocks, making the game even more challenging for hardcore gamers.

Now I'm not Guts, so there might be more to what he meant by replay value, but that's a start until he can answer himself (he's currently at a preview event).

Ahh i see, with a name like guts,(one of my favorite anime series berserk) I expect no less. That sounds pretty good, gotta ask does the main character get any new weapons or items? It's not a deal breaker just wondering.

Nope, it's a skill-based game where you get all the character's abilities right from the start. :)

All the reviews I saw make Furi sound like an incredible game, definitely interested in the game now.

EuroGamer gave Furi a "Recommended" score, saying:

"A stylish, mechanically polished boss rush game, Furi effectively channels the spirit of Punch-Out!! to make for an unexpected gem."

High-Def Digest - Furi Review - 100 score (PC version):

Final Thoughts: "From a studio I’d never heard of and who, in turn, I expected nothing special from, 'Furi' makes me feel like a fool for ever judging it so harshly. Very possibly the best action game of this generation thus far, this is a rare example of every facet of a game's design working perfectly to create an amazing whole. This is an outstanding effort from a studio I’m going to follow wholeheartedly from here on out."

GamingTrend - Furi Review - 95 score (PS4 version):

"Furi kicked my ass, and I loved it. There was laughter, there were tears, but most of all, there was a goddamned great game. The combat is extremely taxing, but fair, and the narrative is surprisingly rewarding. If you’re a masochist, Furi is the game you’ve been waiting for."

Everyeye.it - Furi Review - 83 score (PS4 version):

Google Translator: "These are the foundations of a boss fight sequence long, well-articulated and differentiated, sort of big dances to the death made of dodges, counter and fluorescent hues, both challenging and fascinating in their adrenaline flowing towards an ever foregone conclusion until ' last blow. Despite the experience does not shine for longevity - a lot depends, however, the learning speed of those plays - the advice is not to pass up what is in effect one of the most important gaming revelations of this period."

Push Square - Furi Review - 70 score (PS4 version):

"When Furi's on point, it looks, sounds, and feels incredible, but a little too often, it struggles to maintain its intensity."

Forgot to add that Furi is "free" for all PlayStation Plus subscribers in July:

Source: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2016/06/29/playstat...

PlayStation.Blog says:

"Furi, a new title from The Game Bakers. Built on the premise of making a game that is both simple and deep, Furi is a fast-paced, intense, and ultimately rewarding gameplay experience. While play mechanics allow for an easy approachability, the depth comes from the ways with which you use those skills to take on unique opponents. Furi pits you against guardians, each with his own style, in what feels more like carefully crafted duels than boss fights. The Game Bakers have made something special, and we hope you enjoy it."

"The easy difficulty setting" is among the downsides; what's wrong with it? Not easy enough?

Not interesting enough actually. Some boss patterns simply disappear in easy mode, meaning it's not really a good way to train before trying higher difficulty settings. Now evidently, some people might disagree. Guts believes there were other ways to make the game easier without sacrificing one of the key elements which make it so good.

Just a similar shading/visual style. Character designer is some guy who did Afro Samurai designs, so it's pretty similar to that, too (especially the hair).

Thanks for your responses.
Still doesn't look like my cup of tea. Aesthetically I mean. Too oversaturated for my taste. Not to mention other things like sound and concept.
