Our friends Driftwood and Bombstrike recorded these 4 videos of Need for Speed: Shift right before we went back to France, allowing me to get them through our lengthy HQ 720p encoding process. Enjoy! Update 2: The stream is working again.

Nope, the demo was apparently an old build with the same tracks we've seen in the mountain environment. So take a look at the videos we made a few weeks ago.
By the way, in these 4 videos, all the driving aids are off.
What were the AI and damage settings in the demo? I've only seen the second vid yet, but the AI seems really week.
I'm still not convinced about how 'sim' it will be, it looks a lot like GRID here. (which isn't bad as F3 en GT5 should be enough this year)
But it's nice to have some reflections of the dashboard on the windscreen :)

I actually read somewhere else that there were 3 tracks available in the Forza build at the show and 11 cars. Too bad, I would've loved to have see a video of Forza on the Iberian International Circuit. Oh well, thanks for the NFS vids and good to know the assists are off. Been waiting for that.
@Qronicle- PGR had reflections on the inside of the windshield as well. Not sure about Forza3 and GT5 yet though.
@Driftwood
So from what you guys have played, does it play much like Forza or GT with the aids all turned off? Would you say the game feels most like Grid, Project Gotham, or Forza/GT?
The one thing I'll say about this game is that I think it has, from what I keep seeing, some of the best race locations I've seen in any racing game so far this gen.
Forza and GT might have far superior gameplay, but if the gameplay for this is at least consistent enough to be fun, I think the presentation and great track variety will still make this a really fun game.
However, I thought the earlier gameplay videos have made the physics look pretty damn sloppy, so I have things turn out for the best.
Tha graphics and the movments in the cockpit look amazing, gameplay graphics look easily better then FM3 and GT5 but the handling just does not look right, the car is sliding like crazy and steering looks to sensitive and strong, it looks like you can't lost the back of the car, it looks like you can save it in every slide even if it's really big
The AI looks incredibly stupid for the cars in the back of the pack. Might as well lower the car count if all they'll do in the back is come to a halt on the first turn.
Well after watching the vids I have to say it's looking worse and worse for this game. Like Skyform said, the handling doesn't look right at all. Way too much sliding and looks like it has the sam oversteer issues as dirt/grid.
If that's what they call "no assists" physics, then I am pretty damn let down by this game. I really thought having the guys from SimBin would make a difference but it looks like EA told them to dumb it down once again.
I mean damn, that first vid just looked like crap in a lot of the turns. I really hope I'm just looking at it wrong.
not impressed to be honest.. dont know if its the stream but the famerate doesnt look steady to me. The physics dont look all that either.. having "ping pong" syndrome as you bounce off the other cars

ah sadly.. would be good see more footage in better quality and more cars.
btw, thank you again.. these nfs videos looks awesome.
This is looking very impressive! The cockpit effects are overdoing it and probably should be toned down a little. This game is suffering from the usual multiplatform bitterness that afflicts any game which is already perceived to have a credible first party alternative. Usual suspects by all accounts.
maintaining a steady framerate remains this games biggest challenge given its decision to stick to 30fps, Sega Rally(locked 30fps) is the benchmark they should aim for for smoothness.
Not all driving aids are off. I can clearly see a racing line. :P
I guess this is played with a controller instead of a steering wheel right? – At least that would explain over steering and stuff.
The cockpit view is really immersive but the tunnel vision is a bit overdone since it seems to kick in at about 180 km/h. That’s a bit early tbh, IMO it would be more “realistic” somewhere around 260 km/h.
The AI seems a bit pitiful but on what setting is this played on? – There should be three AI difficulty settings and the highest one is supposed to be really hard, at least they promised that for the release version in an interview.
I guess, or rather hope, that this is still an arcade setting despite “all driving aids off”. Remember GT5P got two physics independent on driving aids as well: Normal and Professional. They said something similar for this game in an interview and they promised a damage model. I don’t see any damage in these videos.
Very sad that apparently no one knows on what setting they just played this game since no one talks about it. I mean a video is nice but I don’t really know what I’m looking at since this game was supposed to range from arcade to simulation.
I guess for PGR fans this is already a win but even so I really enjoyed PGR2 nowadays I’m looking for a bit more realism.
Well another reason to not preorder it. After its release videos will appear where people know how they just played the game and people will post their impression on a final product.
is it just me or does it seem kinda .... off in the cockpit view? seems like ur almost hovering instead of sitting in a car, idk its weird. and lol at the blur at 160kmh! i think it even blurred the mirrors!
hard to get back into nfs after they screwed up every single game the past few years....
Better AI in that video, that is for sure.
I’m not impressed by the damage thou. First of all it was only visually and last but not least it took him some sever crashes to only take of his hood. Both still indicates some arcade settings.
And that’s what I mean he is talking about a serious simulation level and stuff but is not really showing it off.
But that HUD off mode is awesome. I see just one problem: If they start blurring the cockpit from 160 to 180 km/h upwards how the fuck are you supposed to read your dials without HUD when racing fast…
Anyway I keep an eye on it, that way more than the last NSFs achieved.

Really? I mean HOLY SHIT REALLY? You're looking at speedo in racing games, especially simulations? You're supposed to FEEL the speed and the car.. after a couple of laps (tens for some people), you'll know where the braking points are, etc.
