The irreplaceable DjMizuhara got his hands on the God of War 3 demo and here are two short videos he captured for us. It is obviously the same demo that was shown at E3 but it won't hurt to see it again, especially in such good quality.

Awesome though.
Isn't it amazing? The detail, the lighting, and this truly over-the-top gore... it's almost TOO good. This will probably be the best PS3 game you can get for a long time to come. Can't wait until march, but at least my copy of the God of War collection will make the wait a bit easier.

Sony randomly sent e-mails with promotion codes to PSN accounts (I think... somewhere I read that only members of godofwar.com got one) ... it seems like you can also ask someone who has downloaded the demo for his account data to get it for yourself. And, of course, the God of War collection will include a promotion code as well (can't wait for that one as well) and the District 9 Blu-ray will have the demo as a bonus feature. I feel sorry for everyone who isn't able to get the demo, but I'm certain everyone will get access to it next year.

As for this videos the game looks amazing but I see it as a HD GoW still, nothing in that make me believe that it has something different in the combat department, plays like the ones before not that is a bad thing but maybe they would make it a little different for this one like for example I saw combos that I did in the first know what I mean.
Also its there something strange in the effects of the weapons in the second video or Im missing something here because when Kratos was fighting in the first video there was this awesome fire effects going on with each swing and in the part in teh 2 vid in the beggining in the corridor the strikes doesnt made that cool effect it looked wrong.
@IRAIPT0IR: Uncharted 2 was great (at least according to others, I've only played the multiplayer beta so far, getting my copy next week) but God of War is, even if it came late in the PS2 life cycle, imho the defining game for the platform. It's not all about the great graphics, gameplay, music and gore; it also has this very epic and unique story. The greek mythology is one of the few settings that haven't been murdered by Hollywood yet.
Ah, I'm aboard the hype train again. We need some impressions from people who actually played the demo.
Either way Kratos truly is a viscious barstard and I for one would not own up to spilling his pint.
Sometimes the hit detection is good, but sometimes it feels totally off and boring, especially the sub-bosses. It seems like they dont care they are getting hit, its like the hit never hits them at all and they will continue to do this. Even in say NG when you are hitting someone bigger than yourself they react to the attacks, but here they dont.
And the combos, not much to do really, its all the same once you get the hang of it.
Unfortunetly they dont seem to focus alot on the combat and to really polish it up, except they really go for visuals and story, thats the thing.
The japs really focuses on combat more than anything with these games to really nail each animation and hit down and then think of visuals and crazy story.
With westerns, it is vice versa :P
I still think GOW has a decent enough combat to make you continue to keep playing to finish the game, and yes, I am still going to buy this game, but its nowhere near like NG and DMC for me...lets just see how Dantes Inferno and Castlevania will be like...combat aspect.
If talking about gameplay it is old good God Of War with some rather cosmetic changes. If you love prevoius games, you will love this one. If not, then... you won't.
Visuals are great but for me not jaw dropping. When I first saw the game I was dissapointed (thanks to Uncharted2 and R&C:ACiT). But after playing it twice (looking closly to it) I can say it's very solid but one thing dissapointed me in the demo (I know this is quite old demo but...). I expected that it would be 60fps with some frame drops but the demo runs "only" 30fps (and 720p only so far). There were also some shadow issues and demo freezes for 1-2 seconds 3, maybe 4 times.

Gameplay looks very easy.
This game is simply a blast to play the only thing bad about GOW3 can be the previous games were sooo good, that this may feel not so OMG lol.
PS: GOW3 probably best game of 2010. I still can't believe how good it was on PS2 but restricted due to hardware
Weird.
Anyway I played the demo and it was great fun considering its taken from an old demo. I only played the first GOW on PS2 and I have to agree in gameplay terms it feels very similar but I just don't get why that's a bad thing either as the formula works really well. Looks like the final game will be a visually beautiful and gruesomely entertaining ride with substantially more polish than this early demo.
For example from DMC1 to 2, they added nice gunplay (from what I remember) then DMC2 to 3 they added faster and (I think) quicker real time weapon switch for more variety on the fly and then 4 to 5 which didnt do much at all.
Now with NG...NG1 was very basic, NG2/S2 evolved with a big leap with dismemberment, quicker combat, much much more moves, even with some of the weapons from NG1.
So with each enemy and decapitation you had to keep rethink your next move every few seconds but also made them harder.
But with GOW, I dont see much evolvement compared to those franchises, and as a fan of the genre it is dissapointing, alot.
But those who are not a big fan of it and just like the series, yes, its not a bad thing, but there is no excuse for keep adding the same combat with no real evolution rather than upping up graphics and continueing the story...atleast this how I see it anyways.
I do hope that the final retail built has fixed those bad hit detections I was talking about, atleast.
But in no way it is broken because its not, makes the job done, but it does make me cringe sometimes when I see the problem.

people these days are way too freaking picky, i think most talk just for the hell of it, the experience that the GOW series gives is like no other, it's all about fleshing out the character and story of it's main character kratos, and the story and presentation are in a league of their own in the genre, and is complemented by an also unique combat system, yes, just as unique as gears' cover mechanic, that's why dante's inferno is copying the formula, didn't they say they're honoured to be called a gow clone.
you guys always try to take something fucking great and make it sound underwhelming, pathetic, as though you could come up with something better. and please don't come with the whole, it's my opinion bullshit, i'm really tired of that also pathetic excuse.
Yes, the core mechanics are essentially the same. And that's because fans of the franchise don't want innovation, they want the same experience in a refined matter. I'd like to put up some comparisons. Sorry that I use shooters; that genre is just great for this whole "lack of innovation" debate, plus it's not easy to find a competitor for GoW (NG and DMC don't count in my book, I'll explain why)
Halo 2 was just like the first Halo with better graphics, new weapons, new vehicles online multiplayer (which was a no-brainer), and minor additions to the core gameplay, yet it sold millions - Halo 3 was just like Halo 2 with better graphics, even more weapons, more vehicles, and minor additions to the core gameplay and sold millions too. Why? Because people loved the first Halo.
Uncharted 2 did little more than refining the formula of the first game, up the graphics, and add a multiplayer component (also a no-brainer) - gamers and reviewers complained about the lack of innovation, and now, a few weeks after release, people already call it Game of the Year 2009.
Modern Warfare 2 looks almost exactly like the first, yet it'll definitely sell millions, just because even though it'll be essentially the same game again, it'll be a bigger and better experience than the first, with additions that the fans will love.
Resistance 2 tried to go a different way than the first, with more colorful graphics, more emphazised on action, a new way of storytelling, less emphazised on the urban WWII survival horror atmosphere of the first game, a new multiplayer from the scratch - that's why RFoM fans called it the worst sequel ever, it flopped. Even if it was quite a decent game.
BioShock 2 tries to go completely new ways, add multiplayer which was unthinkable for the experience that BioShock was. BioShock fans say this isn't what BioShock is about, even that they should have left the game be, that the sequel should have never existed.
Now, why do you compare NG and DMC to God of War? To me, it's even hard to put these games into the same genre. That's like comparing Demon's Souls to Fallout 3.
I didn't say that the full game will be like this or it will suck, its just the demo I played, and I do hope they fix this. Maybe from your standard its good, but from my standard who loves this genre...NOW in the demo its not all that at times.
Dismemberment is there, but not on purpose, its random.
You sometimes see a enemy crawling at you, but you didnt know exactly how to make it so, its just random that happens.
I only played GOW2 on my PS3, but from what I played from the DEMO of GOW3, I dont see that much difference, maybe you can clear out the fog so I can understand the freshness you speak of in the combat.
One thing that no other game within the genre delivers is the story and its epic approach, and GOW does this best...so far.
The second game that I can think of is Heavenly Sword.
The reason why Visceral Games is copying God of War is because the combat is a "pick up and play" and they want such a approach so they dont have to kill themselves for beating enemies (NG :P)
But again, you played the LATEST demo version, so of course your experience will probably be different than the rest of us, me anyways, so I wont say otherwise.
But I did keep in mind at all times that this is the E3 demo, the very first built for the public if I am not wrong, so I zm keep hoping that they fix this in the retail, the rest is just a wait-and-see scenario.
[quote=TyphoonS9kNow, why do you compare NG and DMC to God of War? To me, it's even hard to put these games into the same genre. That's like comparing Demon's Souls to Fallout 3.[/quote]
Because its exactly the same genre, action game, they are striving for the same thing.
Demon's Souls is a linear RPG (from what I know) and Fallout 3 is a open world RPG (from what I understand) and they made it perfectly clear about that.
But NG, DMC, GOW...they are all linear action games, all of them are trying to have a good combat...story...etc. aside.
PS. You forgot to add Borderlands (great game by the way).
But this is how I see this genre because this is probably my main favorite genre I keep looking out for. In my personal opinion, NG1 and 2 has set the standard so high in combat that other titles is hard to match up. Some do it decent enough, some do it good and some just is bad.
God of War is good enough in my book, sometimes pretty good and sometimes bad. The "sometimes bad" is the hit detection and thats my only problem, but this can be the cause of the E3 demo built, and I do hope they fix it, and I am sure they will.
But to be absolutely clear on this, I WILL buy GOW3 the day it comes out either way, the story, music, epic arppoach is what drives me to go at it, the combat is good enough IMO to make me continue.
