After two months of complete silence, Gran Turismo 5 is back with these new images showing Polyphony's mastery once again. It is so gorgeous that we will not even dare comment on those trees in the last image. Could it be why the most anticipated game of the generation has not been released yet?

But it's still funny to see on a screenshot, especially when the rest is so perfect.

With that said, the cars are pure win.
But i'm sure you can make better looking tree's without wasting bandwidth etc.
Plus it's running at a decent rez with 16cars at 60fps.
I wonder if they should be now using MLAA like gow3, best aa solution imo.
I'm still worried as whether or not the physics and AI will be up to par for what the game needs to deliver, but in terms of visuals I'm sure the game will be really nice looking, even if it has a few shortcuts here and there.
As long as they fix the physics and AI this game should be amazing.

GT5 is miles ahead of other racing games and one of the reason is its lightning modes. It just looks real.
Only the last pic looks bad but they have taken time to render all that stuff which for a racing game is totally unnecessary. Also it is nice they have Nurgburgring GP track.
Most racers show those replay vids screens that look like real tv shots or what ever !
Thats so boring, show some actual game play screens and not that !

Overall, I'm thinking this is a classic case of seeing the game via the GT5's replay mode (shots 1 - 6) where the full power of the PS3 is dedicated to nothing more than making pretty imagery, and then seeing the actual, playable in-game screens (shots 7 - 8), once all the physics, AI, collision detection, etc. are all turned on, forcing a sharp decline in graphic fidelity.

It's not like we have not seen this kind of thing before. Every previous game in the GT series has suffered a similar fate. And lots of other racing sims, who pride themselves on great physics and driving experience, suffer similar fates as well.
That stated, I have to admit, that after having viewed the first six photos, the last two are particularly jarring. I was expecting a significant graphical dip going from replay mode to actual game play, but I was not expecting anything like this much of a drop. Ouch!
Other than that though, it's pretty, if boring. The demo was so dull I struggled to stay awake. Forza is simply a vastly more entertaining game.
And that moroboshi guy is a straight up trolling xbox fanboy if there ever was one! You say Dreamcast? lmao go and play something like Le Mans 24 on the DC and then come back and back your stupid comment up plz!

i think they've done the trees like this to keep the assests photo based. the cars look as close to real as any racer has gotten, and it would be weird if there where stylised trees in there. sure, the way they look like they've been slotted together is a bit rubbish, but as you're racing it looks like a real tree, why? becasue it's a photograph of a real tree. plus you can have thousands on screen. it's a worthwhile trade off. sure i'd love a tree with individual leaves, but it isnt like it's needed to enjoy the game.
either way, i'm not gonna let a bunch of trees spoil what is otherwise a phenomenal looking game.
All that being said, this is hardly a deal breaker. The only reason we are down to trees is that the debate has largely about graphics for the last 5 years :P Funny how rarely the debate goes to the physics and freatures...
