Codemasters released this video of GRID, showing some fans of the series trying the game for the first time, but also some actual footage of this superb looking game.

Let me put it this way: When i play Forza 2 online, most of the time the people I race are good drivers. We get very close races and you can litteraly feel that everyone is pushing the cars to their limits and you feel that one slight mistake will get you closer/further away from your opponents. These races are extremly intense and this is what a race is all about, you're getting excited and you do mistakes in the last round that'll cost you the win.
Now from time to time I happen to get stuck in a lobby with bad drivers. They bump into your car, in general have diffrent braking points and awkward driving. These races are NOT fun. And this is exactly how GRID feels like to me. The gameplay is so inconsequent that you end up driving totaly diffrent than your opponents because it turns out to be effective. You loose the whole illusion to participate in a race and that's not fun on the long run. PGR have done it right, it's still the best blend of simulation and arcade I've ever seen, almost perfect.
I havent tried the 360 demo but the pc demo felt good with a logitech DFP wheel. I usually play racing sims like GTR2, rfactor and live for speed, and while the physics in GRID aren't any where near as realistic as those I felt that codemasters have found a good balance between arcade and realism with GRID.
I didn't like the handling in DIRT, I felt that no matter what I did with my control settings I never felt that my input correlated with what happened on the screen, at least with GRID I feel the car is actually doing what I tell it to do even if sometimes what I'm telling it to do defys the laws of motion :D
I usually avoid arcade racers as I have more than enough hardcore racing simulations to keep busy on the PC but the GRID demo has impressed me that much that I can't wait for it to come out.
Just dont make me eat my words codemasters.
And even if you sweat and manage to get 1st in a 5 lap race, you only get like 4k credits, which even isnt enough to buy a decent pair of rims.
It just takes itself too seriously. Fine if you like that sort of thing, but i personally dont.
The simulation aspect is amazing, but its not 100% FUN. Its 30% fun 70% hard work.
I play games to have fun, nothing else, i dont want to get frustrated or feel that i just drenched myself in sweat for 10 minutes and got 0 credits to show for it.
when you see two cars in front of you crash into each other and make a few flips which you have to avoid while you're trying to not let the guy behind you catch up - that is intense
after reading your comment i get the feeling that you played the game on the normal difficulty with aids on
i've been a racing fan all my life and even tho the controls are not like sim-racers (they are not meant to be realistic anyway) the game takes the cake when it comes to intense action-packed races
i can't wait to play the full game
btw. forza 2 was great but the tracks got old quick - imo the singleplayer was just adding laps the further you get which is the lamest thing you could do
at least this game has many different tracks and the visuals are there too
simulations
racers between those two.
what have they in common? right! they can all be fun if the handling is great.
grid's problem is the handling. it isn't great, it isn't ok, it just works somehow. the cars don't react like you except it (even for an arcaderacer) and when they -on some rare ocassions- do you don't know why. it feels really weird and those graphics can't cover this flaw for me.
I cant beleve how ugly it looks, I head so much about it owning gt but this falls miles short.
what happened to you codemasters because your falling apart, and now you'll fuck up the F1 game more than it already is.
Okay after thinking I don't want to see those games... It will just get to some horrible list wars and stuff like that :/
I do like the tyre walls though thats cool, and the damage is the same as ever with codies if a little bit unremarkable.
I suppose ugly is to harsh a word to use and should be reserved for that crusin game on the wii.
in terms of other games it's behind race driver 2 on pc
mcrae 3
GTlegends
GT5
PGR 3 in my opinion
F1 ps3
F1 2002 pc
burnout
did you play the PC demo with low-quality settings?
I've played the PS3 demo and i thought it looked amazing, even in comparison with beasts like GT5 and the game seems to offer a great variety of racing experiences. The lightning is gorgeous, although i criticize Codemasters for the overuse of sunsets. =) The textures are sharp and the sense of speed felt just right with absolutely no framerate issues even with several on-screen cars crashing and whatnot. The San Francisco track is on par with any city track in PGR imho. And what do you mean by "damage is the same as ever"? Crashes are the most intense since Burnout, yet, less over the top and the damage modeling is great.
are we talking about the same game here?
