Second day of Gamersyde coverage of Halo 5 Guardians with a new batch of 1080p/60fps videos of one of the most anticipated games of this year on Xbox One. After yesterday's footage, we're giving you the highlights of mission 2 and mission 3, but also two new FPS Analysis videos to prove how talented 343 Industries are. Don't want to spoil it. Are there again big open environments where you travel via vehicles like Warthog?

It's holding at a near solid 60fps. Impressive for the graphics and hardware.

It's funny how the XO has more exclusive games running at 60fps than the slightly more powerful PS4, and while the PS4 is also advertised as "for the players". No serious gamer would consider 30fps acceptable.

The only way they're really achieving that is by dynamically scaling the resolution and the graphics aren't exactly mind blowing, the art style is the main thing holding the look together. A lot of the PS4 games are going for a locked 1080p resolution at 30fps resulting in a crisper image and less noticable aliasing. Serious gamers should really be going after solid, evolving gameplay over 60fps and graphics any day. All these games are looking the same, with each itteration. Getting kinda dull. But each to their own.

it looksgood that is all that matters you guys crack me up witj this hardware thing. Both consoles are underpowered and the 20-30% difference in the PS4 is moot. Even more so looking at this game. MS is king when it comes to software things will only improve more with dx 12 and cloud processing.

Nope!

I'm not digging the squad-babysitting gameplay, but it looks much better than Halo 4.

I'm not too awfully impressed. I find the visuals a bit disappointing and barely better than Halo 4 MCC, if at all. So far, I've seen some more impressive sights in Halo MCC than I do here, but there seems to be more action here and more going on. I find the dynamic resolution disappointing and see a lot of aliasing, no doubt from the resolution being lowered because of hardware constraints. Lots of low resolution normal/bumps and textures. The thing that creates the illusion of looking somewhat decent is the art direction, which 343 seems to be great at. They have a good team of artists.

Personally, I would much rather have seen 30fps with a bit of motion blur and better textures, locked 1080p, and more dynamic shadows. Save 60fps for MP because that's where it is important. I think they should at the very least provide this as an option in a future patch, a 30fps option such as the one in TLOU remaster, where you can choose 30fps and get more fidelity out of the visuals. Cutting the frame rate in half for campaign would have provided little aliasing with locked 1080p and even a bit of AA, and much better visual elements. It could have looked amazing.

With that being said, I have already purchased the game and I didn't buy it for the graphics. I bought it for the fun factor, which no doubt will be very high as it always is. Mine is already downloaded and ready to go for next week.

Visually at the expense of performance it still looks great. Most console games struggle with 30 fps and this game goes beyond that.

It does look similar visually to Halo 4 but better, with sharper textures, AO, and double the original performance to say the least. The gameplay, story narrative, soundtrack and budget also greatly compensates it's experience and makes it feel complete.

I would though like to see real boundaries pushed at 30 fps as well. Eventually they'll get around to that.

Well said. I agree. I was never a serious PC gamer and and neither a competitive online fps gamer. TBH I never see the appeal of 60fps. Obviously racing sim, fighters it is important. I guess sports games too it is easier to get. But give me top notch gfx and non stuttering game. I am more than happy as long as game is good.

After enough patches. In this gen dips are common, the witcher 3 was full of them.

1080p and 60fps and it looks better than any game on any console to date. Give me a break. Haters will hate regardless.

Better than any game on any console? Are you high? It's only looks like a very high IQ halo 4 tbh. I like halo games but it's not been a graphics powerhouse since the original 2 games.

Halo 4 in Master Chief Collection is a high IQ (and framerate) version. here's a comparison of a rocky environment from both H4 (X1 ver) and H5. Sucky YT compression, but i still think it's easy to see the increased geometry, texture res, better lighting and shaders etc. in H5:

I know it's not a big deal (no one else seems to notice) but shifting the position of the reticle was a weird decision. Console FPS games typically have a narrow field of view, and I think bungie was smart to place the reticle below the center line, because it allows for more practical use of the vertical FOV. When you couple that with the more aggressive HUD (the visor specifically) it damages visibility.

Halo 5 is more detailed but I'm not crazy about the camera and HUD treatment.
