PS3

Sony announced that the open beta of Home would finally be available on December 11. And the great news is that contrary to the current semi-closed beta there will be some actual content to check out: Some virtual shops with Diesel and Ligne Roset, a promotional game with Red Bull, and some content with Paramount, Eurogamer and Hexus TV. And also some game spaces, like the one for Motorstorm.
Update: 10 more images.

Who cares about virtual shops, the game launching and party system is where it's at.

I love the "great flat you've got here, Ben" because everyone's posed in an odd, clinical emotionally distant manner. :D Looks like some off-Broadway indie theater show.

I still cannot stand the look of this "sims-meets-second-life" teenage chat room. Surely we've got the internet for this crap. I think we all know it's gonna be full to the brim with advertisements and any activities it actually involves are gonna get boring faster than watching paint dry.

If you ask me, they should have got the Ratchet & Clank team to design a futuristic city, and use their pixar-esque character design to use as avatars. Give us some genuinely fun mini games and allow people to use grapples and grind rails and I'd be sold. At least then it'd have a unique feel to the whole project. As it is now... it just looks depressing. We hear so many promises but nobody actually tells us -what- is so great about it. Laggy instant messaging? Oh hooray.

Agreed. I have no interest in walking around in that online sim game. I want to start my game, play the game, turn the console off. No BS like this.
It's nice if we get extra options but this shit is just useless....

ugh. With all of the money sony put into this, they could have secured a decent exclusive or two.

This is a casual experience. Why the fuck is sony trying to create a casual experience for system that costs $400?

It is becoming more and more apparent that this is little more than marketing/advertising space... Sony have underwhelmed from the start this generation and continue along those lines... God i hope Killzone is actually good...

And how is Sony to do that? Guerrilla delivers them Killzone 2, they play it and then they tell Guerrilla; "Uhm, guys the game you have been working on the last couple of years, it kind of sucks and we're not gonna release that stuff"

No i meant for the sake of Sony... Not that they should make it good.... Unless you didn't know its a PS3 only title so, its pretty important to them... Therefore if its a let down what does the PS3 have going for it ???

Well of course it would be good for the console if Killzone kicks ass. (which I don't doubt)
But to ask what the PS3 has going for it; there are enough answers to that.

I have both Xbox 360 and PS3 and although I've had Xbox 360 far longer and it is still my favorite I won't deny the PS3 has a lot of aspects that are great.
The blue ray drive, the really solid user interface and some of it's exclusive games are pretty damn good.

For those non gamers that bought the system as a Blu-ray player. Ever think of that? Anyways, Eurogamer? That is interesting.

give it a monht until there is some pervert on hte news harrasing folk,
the arguement between this being amazing and NXE being crap is poinltless as NXE keeps u in the game, where this will just complicate things, its just a way for sony to get some money back through adversising,i hope it is a success for them i really do as they need some praise this gen, remember when microsoft said they was thinking of a enviroment like this, but it isnt needed and takes u away from the fact u on a console, while i side with that too.

also a big problem i have is the fact the models are too lifelike, would have prefered something more funny, like NXE avatars or Mii style models.

If you want something like this chances are pretty high that you spend 6 hours a day in Second life already, so i don't really see who this thing is for.

i think where home is going to be interesting is that fact you can talk to anyone just to talk, rather then the shit people spew in pre-game lobbies. where MS is focused on the firend list, sony seem to be focusing on creating a genuine community, where it isnt just random matchmaking.

i think the indivdual game spaces are going to be an interesting way to check out trailers and content as well. if it was REPLACING regular game based lobby systems, i'd be pissed off since that method is more immediate. i think home is for when your in a party, playing multiple games, but want to break up the action by minigames of bowling, pool etc. its essentially wrapping a social network around gaming. it may end up being more convoluted, but overall i think it'll be a success.....maybe

Er, you can't really compare the two as you said, cause they are completely different, so why did you attempt to anyway? Also, your grammar, or lack of, makes your post a bit hard to read.

While that is true, the main thing I am looking forward to with Home are the spaces, for games like Resident Evil 5. and the live conferences that they will show.

Home is rather boring to me right now. If you are the type who loves to chat to people then this is probably the best way to do it. But until they get more content in it, its rather dull and will wear off of people rather fast.
