EA AND STARBREEZE STUDIOS ANNOUNCE THE REVIVAL OF THE CULT CLASSIC FRANCHISE SYNDICATE

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) and Starbreeze Studios today announced the reinvention of Syndicate, a storied franchise at EA. Created by an all-new development team from the awarding-winning studio that brought gamers The Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness, Starbreeze Studios delivers a unique and brutal sci-fi first-person shooter experience set in a not too distant future, where business is war. Players take on the role of Miles Kilo, Eurocorp’s latest prototype agent, and embark on an epic action adventure full of corruption and revenge.

“Fans of the franchise will recognize many weapons and environments in the game, but in a whole new way. The game also provides a separate and deep 4-player co-op mode featuring missions from the original cult classic, which adds another layer of depth to the overall experience.”

“We are excited to finally reveal what we’ve been working on the past couple years,” says Mikael Nermark, CEO of Starbreeze Studios. "It's been a great experience working with EA, and an amazing opportunity for us to use our expertise in the first person shooter and action genres to bring back, and reignite, the signature action/espionage gameplay of Syndicate.”

Set in 2069, Syndicate takes players into a dark, Machiavellian world run without government oversight with many syndicates vying for total dominance of their local market place. With no one to question their intentions or actions, three mega corporations – Eurocorp, Cayman Global, and Aspari – are at the forefront of this brutal war for control of the pivotal American market. In the world of Syndicate, everything is digitally connected, including the people. Players aren’t limited to the weapons in their hands. Through DART 6 bio-chip technology implanted in their head, players can slow down time and breach the digital world around them to take down their foes using a variety of upgradable hacking mechanics. Syndicate’s blend of fast-paced, futuristic, action shooter settings and story combined with innovative chip breach gameplay instantly immerses players in a unique digital world.

“Our goal with Syndicate is to provide a challenging action shooter for today’s gamers as well as fans of the original. I’m sure they will enjoy and recognize the legacy that made it such a classic,” says Jeff Gamon, EA Partners Executive Producer. “Fans of the franchise will recognize many weapons and environments in the game, but in a whole new way. The game also provides a separate and deep 4-player co-op mode featuring missions from the original cult classic, which adds another layer of depth to the overall experience.”

Syndicate will be available in early 2012 for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system and the PC. For more information on Syndicate, please visit www.syndicate.ea.com.

Gah, a blooming FPS...they waited this long to release a syndicate fps? My hype is currently below zero... Also, Starbreeze...they have produced some decent games, but nothing as iconic as Syndicate.

im intrigued tbh. i have no prior experience with syndicate. but a starbreeze FPS is something to be excited about imo since they usually make something quite unique within a genre so tired. case in point riddick and darkness... the leaked images look pretty decent too, whether they're in-game or not? who knows.

But Starbreeze is not the same old Starbreeze we know. You sure have read what happened to this dev in 1up feature, right?

Oh No! Where are the squad controls? What about augmenting your agent? How about capturing tech or salvaging hostile agents? No Persuadatron? Massing a mob of armed civilians to take out a boss was great. I am curious because of the IP but saddened and concerned about this becoming a FPS.

I never played Syndicate, but you'd have to be at least in your 30s to play this in 1993 and apprrciate it. Now cant find the first game ANYWHERE unlike Xcom!

Starbreeze is one of my faves, so I.ll hold out hope for a tactical shooter, and if it respects the old game like Deus Ex HR.

Not really I installed syndicate from floppy disc :( It was a game that I went in halves $$ to buy with my best friend at the time.

From giant bomb:
The Persuadatron is a device used by agents in "Syndicate" to coerce civilians and some law enforcement into temporary service.

First seen in Syndicate, this device renders any civilian into a friendly follower. These followers will pick up weapons, and protect your agents if a fire fight erupts.

In Syndicate Wars it's only possible to "persuade" law enforcement and enemy agents once you have amassed a large group of civilian followers.

In Syndicate and Syndicate Wars, any persuaded agents who survive the mission will be converted into new agents for later use.

Just read that:

''The team is treating the Syndicate name with a huge helping of respect. A number of ex-Bullfrog employees are on board, in senior roles, making sure this remake feels like a proper Syndicate game. ''

Hype +1

Looks good and I hope it turns out well

But really a lot of people left Starbrezee after completing Riddick, including the main programmer...I still hope its as good as their previous games.

I wonder if they will have the controversial squad mechanics. Where your squad does not consist only of soldiers, but hacked civilians.

Give me my persuadertron, 8 miniguns, 4 flamethrower, 3 gauss guns and 4 agents with lvl3 bodyparts. KABOOM BABY! Stick your bloody FPS where the sun don't shine...
To be honest, I hope that this will be a good game sooooo badly, even if it is a FPS...
I still play syndicate 1 very often and never stopped loving it. American Revolt was imho one of the best game addons of all times.

Another game treading on the name, but having little to do with the original.

And just looks like a poor man's Deus Ex HR.

So far, pass.

like any one else familiar with deus ex, these screen shots leave me experiencing a sense of deja vu. with that said, these graphics look to far surpass those offered in HR. lets see if the gameplay can shine anywhere near as bright...
