Having said that it doesn't take away from just how fun the wii is for parties. Four people on super smash bros all quite drunk and its riot.
On topic:
Looks very good for a ps2 game. While I will most certainly be getting the 360 version, the wii one may be good if it has some cool motion sensing controls.
But do please refrain from understanding that! How would this place look without the constant Wii hate? :)
Wii hate just requires so little effort.
If prettier graphics distinguish one game from another essentially identical game - then that's awesome for you.
And also part of my point, with my point being that only slightly changing the definition of what is "the same as Xbox and PS2", it's easy to shift subjects around aswell. Then again, I'm in a devastatingly tiny minority in seeing things that way, because while Mario Galaxy is "another fucking Mario game, grr!", Halo 3 is apparently new and exciting. :)
Fortunately I'm not big with the hating, so I'm not really in anyone's particular camp here.
I just don't understand it to a certain extent. Why wouldn't someone rather play a nicer-looking version of a game on a 360 or a PS3 over the clearly inferior-looking version on the Wii?
But granted, if they all play virtually the same then the "best" version is obviously the one with the most qualities, including graphics.
I should maybe adjust my own statement a bit about graphics though as to not sound completely delusional. Graphics matter to me, but the "complexity" of graphics doesn't. I will be blown away by an awesome looking "SNES tech" game today. Heck, I even think Megaman for NES look stunning. An ugly game for me is always ugly, while a pretty game for me is always pretty. You can't show me something now that'll be outdated in four years and have me think it's pretty, because then it really isn't pretty at all. Just new.
Standards apparently rise all the time but I don't really feel that anymore. I don't say that like I'm better than anyone else, I say that because that's how I feel about it. That's why something like Ouendan 2 on the DS can dazzle me almost to the point of tears, whereas something mind bogglingly TECHNICALLY gob smacking like Crysis leaves me completely indifferent. I can see why it's impressive, but it's really just about pushing the tech.. tech that is always rushing forward, thus making games into virtual sand castles that'll be torn down by the next wave.
I guess we're both lucky in different ways, but right now I think you'll be the lucky one more frequently than I am, because the pretty:new quota is certainly in your favour.
But anyways, power does a LOT MORE for games than just making prettier graphics and better sound.
Everything from physics to extra power for online play to better AI to more complex designs and gameplay. We HAVE seen all these things in games already, but people don't often perceive changes that don't go right into their senses.
What looks cool about AOTD5 is the gameplay and physics, and I'm willing the bet the Wii can't do those bending metal physics at the very least.
Looks pretty good though, although I cannot stand 480 anything lol so I'll be playing the next gen all the way lol

And that dynamic deformation of the metal... Its pretty awesome... lol
We're obviously talking purely about aesthetics here. If you honestly think there's an abundance of 360/PS3 games that are vastly beyond what last gen tech games were capable of in terms of gameplay and AI, then congrats to you aswell. I can count the ones I reckon fall into that category on one hand.
I know we're leaving facts behind and again enter the realm philosophies when I say this but I really don't think physics are quite all they're cracked up to be. Ironically, the coolest physics in a long time in my opinion belong to the Wii game Eledees where the game is based on the concept of physics. Half Life 2 is an obvious choice aswell, but that's starting to feel like a while ago. In most cases physics end up just another brand of "pretty", with explosions being more spectacular because stuff is flying all over.
I'm hyped for AiTD by the way, let's not lose sight of that fact. It's not like I'm going to get the Wii or PS2 version of something that is obviously developed with the PS3 and 360 in mind, because they're most likely gonna be a bit rubbish like everything else that's just put on as many platforms as possible. It has happened of course, with Splinter Cell: Double Agent being rediculous amounts of superior on Xbox compared to the 360, but I don't think this is likely to pull one of those.
A really cool compromise would be to instead develop remakes of 1-3 for the Wii. Dressing up as santa and whacking zombie kids with a frying pan would be all sorts of awesome with the Wiimote. Those games need a controls overhaul to work today anyway.
However, I think that it's important to remember that we're talking about games here, and gameplay will pretty much ALWAYS be the defining factor of how good a game is. Who plays Monopoly for how pretty the board looks? Or plays cards because they want to see what the ace of spades looks like? Hopefully no one, but to be honest, there's probably some freak out there.
Anyway, my point is, you're all completely underestimating the power of the wii. And no, i'm not talking about it's graphical power, but it's power to make games feel different. Motion sensing has changed games entirely, look how big of a success the Wii has been! Even given it's admittedly poor graphics. Gameplay will always win.
So how can the Wii be old gen, when it's revolutionised gaming so much? Sure, the 360/PS3 might be able to do accurate metal-bending (is that really that much fun?) but with a Wii, you could actually bend the metal by swinging a wiimote around like a crazy person. Different kinds of power.
Fair enough if you mean old-gen graphically. But ONLY if you follow old-gen with "graphically".
And before you attack me, I don't own a wii (nor do I plan on getting one). I'm hardcore 360 =). I just thought some of the comments on this post were a bit too much.
The thing about the Wii and its gameplay is that it mostly feels broken or unnecessary a lot of the time. Iffy gameplay and inferior graphics don't help it win me over at all.
Look at the games that have been designed specifically for it, with attention and detail. Like No More Heroes or the very obvious Wii Tennis.
It certainly is difficult to stand up for the Wii given it's lack of deserving games (one of the reasons I don't own one myself) but I still think its worth standing up against the hate.

And once again, system power is more than just graphics. If you really think so highly of the Wii you should probably get one and see what it's really about. I own all 3 platforms. Personally I wouldn't call the Wii 'last gen' it's just taking a completely different route. Good marketing and cutting costs, to ensure a great profit, and those things in particular I can't respect Nintendo for.

Not going to debate you on every point, but if you compare something like Lost Planet, which is at least a little underrated generally, to things we had in previous console generations, I think it stands up remarkably well, if not saying outright it's a better action game than all of them (other than little gameplay decisions here and there which are opinion related).
